The Only Cultivator in a World of Hunters

Chapter 27: Meeting Mark Again

On a deserted street with only a few dim lights like this, was there any chance of recruiting a disciple?

Nexus didn’t know, and he didn’t care. He had never expected to recruit a disciple anytime soon. Ten years, a hundred years, or even a thousand years before one appeared, it didn’t matter.

After all, among cultivators, it wasn’t uncommon for cultivators who were millions of years old to only start thinking about taking in disciples.

He hadn’t gone very far before five young men smoking cigarettes with incredibly bizarre hairstyles blocked his path.

Their clothes were a mess, full of rips everywhere. They looked about high school age, but they reeked of alcohol.

Their eyes weren’t exactly clear either. They staggered around like they could collapse from being drunk at any moment.

"Hey, lend us some money."

Asking to borrow money like this definitely meant borrowing it and never paying it back. These brats clearly wanted to rob Nexus but didn’t want to admit they were robbers.

But who was Nexus? Someone like him naturally treated the brats like they were air and kept walking straight ahead.

"Hey, are you blind?"

One rude brat shoved a half-smoked cigarette right in front of Nexus. That arrogant look like he owned the place definitely had enough ’talent’ to become a disciple of the system and Ziz.

Did Nexus look like an ordinary person? Of course not. But these teenagers weren’t sober enough to think about the possibility that Nexus was a hunter. Right now, their hazy minds only had one goal: to ’borrow’ some money.

"Move."

Nexus didn’t even glance at him, but he still spoke. If the brat kept blocking the way, he’d simply walk right into him and knock him aside before continuing forward.

"Uh..."

The red-haired young man stared blankly at Nexus. Nexus’s reaction was completely outside the situations he usually ran into.

While they were still standing there in confusion, another brat reached out and yanked at Nexus’s disciple recruitment banner.

Of course, he couldn’t pull it down. Even an SSS-rank hunter wouldn’t be able to tear that banner down.

As a proud street punk, there was no way he could accept embarrassing himself. So he immediately started mocking Nexus so his friends wouldn’t pay attention to what had just happened.

"Hahaha, look at this guy. Is he some kind of idiot? An idiot like this probably doesn’t even have any money for us to borrow."

His eyes weren’t even clear enough to read the words written on the banner anymore.

But he could see Ziz. That round-looking thing was probably a stuffed bear. He had no idea how much it could sell for, but he might as well take it first.

So he reached out to grab Ziz, but Ziz immediately sucked in its belly, causing him to miss. Of course, Ziz was still in offline mode right now.

Could a bunch of non-hunters possibly pose any danger to Nexus? Even if the system’s thinking and Ziz’s thinking were a bit questionable, the current situation was completely harmless to Nexus as far as they were concerned.

Failing to even grab a stuffed animal made the teenager’s face turn red with anger. Once he got worked up, he wanted to get physical.

Without any warning, he threw a punch straight at Nexus’s face, dealing ’terrifying’ damage. More specifically, it dealt absolutely no damage at all. Instead, the young man felt a bit of pain in his hand, like he had punched a wall.

Nexus merely glanced at him before continuing forward, knocking both the red-haired young man blocking his way and another person to the ground.

Nexus’s calm attitude drove the competitive brats completely mad. They pulled switchblades out of their pockets and pointed them at Nexus.

"You bastard! If you don’t hand over all your money, don’t blame us for getting ruthless."

No matter how fiercely the red-haired young man tried to act, Nexus showed no reaction at all. He couldn’t even make Nexus slow down by a single step, and that was the last straw for him.

"How dare you ignore me?!"

Just as he was about to charge forward, a figure appeared in the distance. It was a young man wearing a hoodie with the hood pulled over his head. He walked confidently down the deserted street as if this place belonged to him.

The teenager who had been furious immediately stopped when he saw that figure. The expression on his face became rather interesting.

It started with disdain, then jealousy, and finally fear.

"Stop!"

The moment he heard that voice, Nexus glanced at the young man. Although he hadn’t spoken to Mark during the day, he still remembered him a little.

"Mark..."

The red-haired young man ground his teeth. Just a few days ago, he had been the bully, yet now the person he had bullied had become a hunter. They had only heard that information not long ago, so they didn’t know the details.

Even though they had no idea what rank Mark was, any ordinary person would be wary of facing a hunter. Even street punks were no exception.

"Don’t think becoming a hunter is enough to scare me!"

Seeing their leader act so boldly, his friends stopped trembling so much, but they all took half a step back and let the red-haired young man stand in front.

After all, they weren’t any kind of serious organization. Their so-called leader was just the one who was best at fighting. Since they didn’t have any ideals to speak of, their leader’s life was, in the end, worth less than their own.

When Mark first awakened, people looked down on him, but now he was farming aura in front of a bunch of delinquents.

Step by step, he walked closer. His relaxed posture, as if he were truly invincible, made the brats unconsciously back away.

Once he got close enough, he casually waved his right hand. A handful of sand flew from his palm straight toward the group of young men.

Under the dim lights and through eyes clouded by alcohol, that handful of sand looked more dangerous than ever.

The red-haired young man who had been acting so tough just moments ago turned and ran as fast as he could. Seeing their leader flee, the others naturally didn’t dare stay behind either.

Just like that, Mark drove five people away with nothing more than a harmless handful of sand. Only then did his slightly trembling legs reveal themselves.
