Chapter 26: Lailah Dies Again
Bell hadn’t even had time to clean up a little more before he was interrupted. The loud slap followed by the all-too-familiar sound of bones breaking made him jolt.
"Stop!"
Mia was about to rush in and hit Lailah a few more times, but before she could do anything more, Bell grabbed her tightly. That only made her feel even more wronged.
"Let me go! I’m going to beat that flirtatious fox woman to death."
Even though Lailah had already been sent rolling across the floor by her slap and was lying there motionless, she had no intention of stopping.
"I said stop!"
A sharp smack rang out as Bell slapped Mia across the face, leaving her cheek bright red.
Mia stared at Bell with wide eyes, her gaze trembling in disbelief. Her boyfriend had actually hit her this hard because of another woman?
"You... you hit me?!"
"You actually hit me because of that bitch?!"
"Get out of my way! I’m going to beat that bitch to death!"
Mia wasn’t some gentle person to begin with. Did he really expect her to swallow this kind of humiliation? No chance!
Her eyes turned red as tears streamed down her face. Right now, she looked like a madwoman who had completely lost her mind.
But there was no way a B-rank healing hunter could match the strength of an S-rank combat hunter. Bell found her screaming too noisy, so he immediately knocked her unconscious. Just like that, for the second time that day, Mia collapsed onto the floor.
After roughly dealing with Mia, Bell immediately turned around and gently picked Lailah up to check on her. If Mia had seen the difference in how he treated them with her own eyes, she probably would’ve coughed up blood from anger.
This time, it wasn’t just a broken neck. Mia’s powerful slap had shattered Lailah’s jaw and given her severe brain trauma. She didn’t even have time to convulse before she died.
"My god... This is the second time already."
Even though he knew Lailah would come back to life soon anyway, Bell still sighed. They had only just met, and he’d already "killed" the angel twice. Would that leave a bad impression?
Probably not, since she was an angel. If she had been human, she probably would’ve wanted to kill Bell by now.
There was nothing Bell could do, so he carried Lailah into the room and found a proper place for her to lie down while waiting for her to come back to life.
---
Up in heaven, Michael sat upon his throne, watching everything happening on Earth. Looking at Lailah’s performance, all he could do was gently shake his head.
"So my angel is this helpless without her powers? She died twice right after arriving on Earth... Or did I lower the intelligence of her human body too much?"
Michael considered giving Lailah a little more IQ, but in the end he decided against it.
Lailah’s current IQ wasn’t low. If he raised it any further, she’d become a genius. Maybe it was just because this was her first time being human, so she was a little clueless. Besides, she wasn’t actually dead, so there was no need to interfere.
"I wonder what Lucifer is doing in hell right now? With the Nexus’s positive influence, there shouldn’t be any trouble..."
Michael muttered to himself before glancing toward hell. Although most of his view was blocked by Lucifer’s authority, he could still see what was happening around the outer edge of hell.
It would’ve been better if he hadn’t looked. The moment he did, even a supreme existence like Michael shot up from his throne.
"Are you kidding me? How did the influence become this huge?"
Since when had Lucifer become this hardworking? Just because he had become a little calmer, had he really turned into a serious leader who "cared" about his subordinates?
Even if this strange state of hell were only temporary, what would happen to Earth now?
Michael hadn’t expected Lucifer’s change in a "positive" direction to create even more work for him so quickly.
"Whatever, I’ll leave it alone. Nexus is already the variable over there. Whether he acts or not, some cultivators who are strong enough should be able to balance things out."
Michael decided to ignore it. After all, as long as the universe wasn’t truly out of balance, there was nothing worth genuinely worrying about.
If any serious problem were going to happen at any point in the future, both he and Lucifer would’ve already known and taken action instead of sitting around like they were now.
---
In a fairly crowded street, countless eyes were fixed on Nexus. They were staring because he really looked strange.
The system was on his right, while a pitch-black creature that looked somewhat like a chicken sat on his left shoulder. On top of that, he was carrying a three-meter-tall pole with a huge banner hanging from it.
The eye-catching bright red banner had the words: Free Cultivation - Only Two Spots Left.
This flashy design wasn’t his own idea. He had happened to see something similar and copied it.
And it really did a great job of attracting people’s attention. The only problem was that everyone thought it was a joke.
With the Internet available everywhere, people could easily look anything up. At first, some of them thought Nexus was some high-rank hunter with a weird personality, but they soon found out that he was just an F-rank who had only awakened not long ago.
As time passed, Nexus heard more and more laughter and whispers, making him feel a little annoyed. At this rate, would anyone really be willing to become his disciple if he didn’t show off his strength?
Although he knew that if he displayed world-shaking power, countless people would want to become his disciple, he didn’t want to.
He only had two disciple spots for now. If a huge crowd showed up at once, who was he supposed to accept, and who was he supposed to reject?
Normal cultivators cared about a disciple’s cultivation aptitude when accepting disciples, but Nexus didn’t care much about that. He just wanted to spread cultivation throughout this plane. He didn’t necessarily need to train peak cultivators or immortals.
Since Nexus wasn’t shouting or doing anything that disturbed public order, nobody called the police.
Just like that, he wandered around until the sun set, then stopped at a deserted park. If he couldn’t find a disciple in crowded places, then he’d try somewhere a little quieter to find someone fated to meet him.
He waited in the park until ten at night, and still nobody even bothered to say a single word to him, so he continued on to a cheap residential area.
Security in that neighborhood wasn’t very good. There was plenty of crime, so few people went outside at night. Of course, Nexus didn’t care about those petty crimes at all and casually walked down the deserted street.
