Chapter 25: Angel Lailah
For the first time seeing a magical gadget in action with his own eyes, Bell watched intently. But the longer he watched the compass needle spin, the deeper his frown became.
How the hell was there not even the slightest fluctuation of energy? Were an angel’s items really this unreasonable, ignoring all logic and rules?
Bell narrowed his eyes, widened them, used his perception of the wind, and every other method he could think of, but he still couldn’t sense even the tiniest trace of supernatural power from this compass.
If humanity’s only SSS-rank hero could use these completely illogical items, wouldn’t he really have the power to wipe out every single monster?
Of course, that thought only flashed through Bell’s mind before disappearing. If mortals could casually use an angel’s items, the entire universe would fall into chaos.
Five seconds... ten seconds... thirty seconds...
The compass needle just kept spinning, showing no sign of stopping. The angel’s expression became increasingly unpleasant.
Annoyed, she reached out and smacked the compass a few times, like how some people fix old TVs by hitting them.
"Are you kidding me? Why does it have a cooldown?"
She helplessly slumped down onto the floor. Without the compass, she had no other way to determine Nexus’s location.
This ordinary-looking compass actually contained power at the highest level. No matter how powerful Nexus was, as long as he was somewhere in this universe, it could pinpoint his exact location.
Even though he was a little disappointed, Bell didn’t say it out loud because he wanted to keep showing her respect. Even if she was a mortal now, no longer omniscient or omnipotent, his respect for her hadn’t changed.
If the system and Ziz saw this special treatment Bell was giving her, they would definitely curse him out for daring to value them less than her.
"No need to rush. You can stay with me for now. Go wherever you want or do whatever you want; I’ll cover all the expenses. As for Nexus, we’ll meet him again soon enough. He’s not the kind of existence that likes destroying worlds, so don’t worry."
After spending a short time with him, Bell was certain that Nexus wasn’t a dangerous existence. But the angel’s worry made him suspect that the Nexus in heaven had "accidentally" caused some huge disaster.
Even though she was in a hurry, the angel also felt that Bell made quite sense. More importantly, she knew he was telling the truth instead of just saying random things to comfort her.
"I guess that’s our only option. Thanks, Bell. Oh, and don’t call me an angel. I can’t let my identity be exposed. As for how you address me, just call me Lailah."
Being allowed by an angel to speak to her as an equal was an honor. Bell naturally agreed without hesitation, but the matter of hiding her identity made him frown.
Lailah’s appearance was far too eye-catching. Just one video accidentally uploaded to social media would be enough to make her famous. How was she supposed to hide her identity like this?
"Forgive me for being blunt, but you’re far too beautiful to hide your identity."
Lailah wasn’t worried about that at all. She patted him on the shoulder and smiled confidently.
"Don’t worry. Ordinary humans only see me as a beautiful person. They can’t tell that I’m an angel unless they’ve met me before. And on Earth, only you and Nexus have ever met me. So, can you help me keep this a secret?"
Lailah blinked her beautiful eyes, making her look unbelievably adorable. Who could refuse her request?
For someone who respected her as much as Bell did, he would naturally agree to any request she made, as long as it was within his ability.
"I absolutely won’t say a single word about your identity."
Bell patted his chest confidently as he replied. Then he once again took out that bank card and handed it directly to Lailah.
Unlike an incomprehensible existence like Nexus, Bell believed an angel like Lailah would never do anything too crazy with his money.
"Huh? I don’t need that. As long as I take the time to look through my bag, it has everything."
Lailah shook her head and refused, then lightly shook the cloth bag in front of Bell.
My bank card actually got rejected? Even Mia never had the chance to use it whenever she wanted, yet now it was refused so decisively.
A feeling of disappointment rose in Bell’s heart. Even though feeling disappointed because someone refused to spend his money sounded very strange, that was clearly the situation right now.
"I’m staying with you until I meet Nexus again. Why would you give me money when you can just pay for me yourself if I need anything?"
Even though she really didn’t need it, Lailah felt a little sorry for Bell, so she said that to cheer him up.
And it worked remarkably well. Bell immediately became much more energetic when an angel agreed to spend his money.
Maybe one day Bell would become an angel himself, but that was a story for the distant future.
Right now, he had a great chance to build a good relationship with a senior, so he had to do his best. That way, when he eventually went to heaven, there would be someone willing to help him if he ever needed it.
"Please wait outside for a moment. This room is way too messy. I need to clean it up first."
"I have a magical gadget..."
Seeing Lailah reach into her cloth bag as if she was about to take out some magical gadget to clean the room, Bell immediately stopped her.
"No! This is my way of showing respect to you. If you do it, it’ll put me in a very awkward position."
"Um... if you say so."
Seeing a mortal trying so hard, Lailah really couldn’t bring herself to stop him. She nodded, opened the door, and stepped outside, but accidentally tripped over Mia, waking her up.
The moment Mia barely opened her eyes, a face as beautiful as an angel appeared right in front of her. Her brain immediately started working at full speed.
An unbelievably beautiful woman had just walked out of Bell’s room, and she had even openly kicked her. Therefore... she was trying to steal her boyfriend!
"You dare try to steal my boyfriend. Damn you!"
A full-force slap from a B-rank hunter, moving so fast that Lailah couldn’t react in time, directly slapped Lailah’s "soul" out of her body.
