Chapter 73: White Punches Nexus
After explaining the lesson requirements, Nexus left the mind space and let White struggle through the lesson he had just come up with on her own.
"Damn it, is there really a master this annoying?"
White had barely finished grumbling before another chain pierced through her body, making it impossible for her to keep talking.
A blaze of fury erupted in White’s eyes. How long had it been since she’d felt this miserable? She couldn’t even remember anymore, but once she got out of here, she was definitely going to beat Nexus up. Even if she couldn’t win, she’d still do it!
Time in this space passed much more slowly than in reality. So Nexus didn’t have to wait very long.
In the real world, White stood completely motionless like a statue, as if her consciousness and body had nothing to do with each other anymore.
"Five... four... three... two... one..."
Once the countdown ended, White returned as well. She wasn’t surprised, nor was she out of breath after being tortured for such a long time. That calmness was obviously just the calm before the storm.
"How many times did those chains pierce through your body?"
Naturally, Nexus wasn’t afraid of her going crazy. He still wore that indifferent expression toward everything as he asked her.
"Thirty-six thousand three hundred sixty-seven... You bastard, you actually used those damn chains to pierce through me and made me die thousands of times..."
White’s usually crystal-clear voice had become frighteningly low. Anyone could even hear her grinding her teeth while she spoke.
"Perfect. You met the requirement. Now I just need to give you a spiritual root and a cultivation technique, then you can go wherever you want. I won’t limit my disciple’s freedom. Besides, you’re pretty busy too."
Facing White as she was about to lose it, Nexus smiled and even clapped to congratulate her.
Heaven and hell were enemies. That was the rule. Right now, Nexus could temporarily be considered hell’s VVIP guest because Lucifer’s heart was working harder than ever before, so messing with White was pretty entertaining to him.
While Nexus spoke, White had already put on her gloves. She clenched her fists so hard that her knuckles started cracking.
White’s holy white blood aura was unleashed at full power. Every buff she could use, she used them all. She even looked more desperate than when she fought Ziz.
"You’re supposed to be really good at staying calm. We’re master and disciple, closer than family."
Nexus copied the system’s annoying tone so perfectly that it immediately reacted. If it could, the system would demand royalties, but Nexus probably didn’t have anything worthwhile to give it anyway.
"Closer my ass!"
The more White listened to Nexus talk, the harder her body shook. Not from fear, but because her anger could no longer be contained.
"Go die, you bastard of a master!"
White focused her energy into her gloves and threw a full-power punch straight at Nexus’s chest. The sharp spikes on the gloves dug in. They couldn’t pierce anything, but they let White easily change her stance and slam Nexus to the ground.
White’s powerful attack from the mountaintop unleashed terrifying energy, once again turning a mountain peak into a lighthouse for the entire massive dungeon.
The whole mountain shook violently, and the summit was punched through, leaving behind a gigantic crater. Rocks and dirt flew incredibly fast and far in every direction, accidentally crushing countless weak monsters to death.
"Feel better now?"
Of course, Nexus wasn’t hurt at all. That punch wasn’t even enough to scratch his clothes.
If White had actually managed to deal any damage at all, that would’ve been the weird part. Even throwing Nexus straight into a singularity wouldn’t damage the outfit he’d been wearing since the day he was born.
"You... fuck you!"
Even though Nexus’s face was completely hidden behind a cloud of dust, White was certain there was an incredibly annoying smile underneath it.
White knew Nexus was much stronger than her. The experience of dying thousands of times in that mind space had already proven that. She just hadn’t expected the gap between them to be so absurd that even if Nexus didn’t bother defending himself, she still couldn’t leave a scratch on him.
If one punch wasn’t enough, then ten. If ten weren’t enough, then a hundred. White still refused to believe that even after using everything she had, she still wouldn’t be able to do anything.
White was the peak of Earth’s hunters, someone who had always been confident in her own abilities. But that confidence was taking a massive hit right now because of Nexus’s existence.
One heavy punch after another crashed down on Nexus like a pile driver, making him sink deeper and deeper into the ground like a stake. Since Nexus was that strong, White stopped holding back completely and aimed every single punch at his face.
The towering mountain shook over and over again. The area around White gradually turned into a massive pit. That pit kept getting deeper and wider, making it look more and more like an open-pit mine.
The commotion was so huge that Ziz, who had only gone offline not long ago, came back. A heartwarming scene between master and disciple like this was probably the first and last time in the Cultivation Academy.
"Tsk, why didn’t you do this from the start, you annoying little mortal?"
The more Ziz watched White’s fierce assault, the more regretful he became. He had obviously been so close to succeeding earlier, but she’d been calmer than he expected.
[As expected of the most reliable one out of all the mortals Nexus picked. Nice punches, but what a shame. I wanted to see this idiot master’s face begging for mercy after getting beaten, but Michael protects Nexus way too well.]
The system spoke in a disappointed tone even though it was obviously enjoying this master and disciple drama.
After hundreds of White’s punches, the towering mountain had been punched clean through, creating a gigantic hole in the middle. The deepest part of that hole was almost level with the dungeon’s ground now.
Even after taking that many hits, Nexus’s outfit wasn’t even torn, while White’s hands were on the verge of shattering. Her bones were already badly cracked. If this kept going, she’d really end up seriously injured.
