Chapter 74: Crying from Anger
It seemed White didn’t care much that both of her arms were about to be crushed. Anyway, she had ways to recover, and punching wasn’t even her only way to attack.
The reason she kept punching Nexus in the face like this was simply that she was pissed off. Normally, she fought from long range as support when raiding dungeons with a partner.
Her melee weapon was mainly for catching monsters off guard, because even high-rank monsters never bothered investigating any hunter’s information.
Compared to S-ranks who specialized in combat like Bell, White’s physical body was much weaker. If it weren’t for her absurd ability that buffed all of her attributes, she would’ve never gone around inspecting dungeons by herself like this.
"You can stop now. If you keep going, you’ll be the only one getting hurt."
In complete contrast to White’s current madness, Nexus stayed completely indifferent despite taking punch after punch, as if nothing was happening.
If someone hadn’t seen White’s mountain-shaking punches, they would’ve thought Nexus was getting a massage from how relaxed his voice sounded.
"I don’t need your concern."
White felt deeply humiliated. She was an S-rank hunter, one of humanity’s strongest, yet right now she was as helpless as a child standing before an adult... No, even worse, like a tiny ant facing a Tyrannosaurus rex.
But could Nexus really just let her keep destroying herself? Normally, maybe. But not this time.
After all, this was the first time he’d gone this far out of his way to tease someone, so her hurting herself was, in a "very small" way, partly his fault.
Nexus was always fair, at least by his own standards. So if he decided he was at fault, then he would definitely do something about it.
White’s fist was about to slam into Nexus’s face again when it suddenly stopped. Naturally, it wasn’t because White wanted it to, and the frustrated grimace on her face made that perfectly clear.
"What did you do to me?"
Except for White’s head, which could still move normally, the rest of her body felt like it was being restrained by some invisible force.
"Just a little trick that’s not worth mentioning. My turn now, right?"
Would Nexus apologize? Of course not. With Lucifer’s heart, there was no way Nexus would apologize to someone who had the potential to become an angel. Even if he did, it would only be a casual attitude rather than a sincere apology.
Right now, White should’ve been the one sitting on top of Nexus and beating the hell out of him, but the moment he slowly reached his hand toward her face was enough to make her glare at him warily.
But glaring didn’t seem clear enough, so White ended up closing her eyes while staying on full alert.
"Keep your damn hand away from me. If you dare do anything to me, I’ll... I’ll..."
White wanted to say something threatening, but after thinking about it, she couldn’t come up with anything that made sense.
She couldn’t fight because she’d almost broken both arms from punching him this whole time without even dirtying Nexus’s clothes. Threatening him with the Hunter Association was meaningless because even if every high-ranking hunter in the Association gathered together, they still couldn’t do anything to Nexus.
It was the first time she’d ever been in such a damned situation. Even after living for thirty years, White had no idea what she was supposed to do.
As Nexus’s hand got closer, more sweat formed on White’s forehead. She’d never seen Nexus destroy anything before, but she was pretty sure she was about to get launched out of the atmosphere.
But unlike White’s terrifying imagination, Nexus only lightly flicked her nose. The force was probably about the same as a newborn baby’s hand, so White didn’t feel any pain at all.
"Now we’re even. Can you stop now?"
After flicking White’s nose, Nexus just smiled and did nothing else. The physical damage was practically zero, but the humiliation to White was off the charts.
"Even???"
White’s beautiful face turned red with anger, but she couldn’t beat Nexus up. The frustration was so overwhelming that even at thirty years old, she wanted to cry like a little kid.
Other than crying, White couldn’t think of anything else because only her head could still move.
White wasn’t planning to curse at Nexus because she felt it would be completely useless. Nexus had a system and Ziz beside him talking like shit all the time, and he still didn’t care, so could her insults really annoy him?
Besides, White knew she was incredibly beautiful. She didn’t believe Nexus could watch her cry without trying to comfort her.
After many years, tears once again rolled down White’s cheeks. The sight made Nexus freeze for a brief moment.
Right then, Nexus felt something incredibly strange. The feeling clearly didn’t come from him, but from Lucifer’s black heart.
"Hey, stop crying. I won’t tease you anymore."
Seeing Nexus back down a little, White’s tears almost immediately stopped.
What happened just now was both real crying and acting at the same time. For an S-rank like White, controlling her tear ducts wasn’t difficult.
But before White’s mood could improve even a little, Nexus laughed right in her face. Someone as committed to equality as Nexus would never treat White especially well just because she was a woman and incredibly beautiful.
"Haha, did you think I’d comfort you? Go ahead and cry. Cry louder. I’m the most persistent existence no matter where I am. I guarantee you’ll cry yourself tired before you ever manage to annoy me."
Nexus felt great right now. Because he was experiencing feelings similar to Lucifer’s, teasing a future angel until she cried from anger gave him a strangely satisfying feeling.
It sounded ridiculous, but Nexus felt like he’d succeeded in trampling his sworn enemy. Someone like Nexus, who had never considered anyone his enemy, had naturally never experienced a feeling like this before.
