Chapter 994 - You Really Are Desperate

The Light God King pressed one hand against his forehead, a frustrated expression on his face. Standing before him was his own flesh and blood, the Daughter of Light, Elina.

Just a few minutes ago, Elina had made a request that shattered his worldview.

“Elina, are you sure everything you just said came from the heart?” the Light God King asked, voice dripping with disbelief.

“I wish to marry Brother Jia Gui.” A faint blush colored Elina’s cheeks.[1] “Please give us your blessing.”

The Light God King’s brows knitted so hard they nearly formed an X. He had never even heard of Jia Gui before, at least not until An Yunian got stabbed in the groin.

Everything he knew about Jia Gui filled him with contempt. He had written the man off as a petty, underhanded rat. Unexpectedly, Jia Gui not only stooped to ambushing people, but even stole women too! The bastard even had the audacity to steal women from the Light God King’s own household, no less.

“You really are desperate, aren’t you? You’ll eat anything that’s put in front of you! Didn’t you despise him before? What on earth do you see in that scum?[2] Do you like that he’s old and ugly? Or is it his shamelessness and sleaziness that does it for you?” The Light God King was too furious to maintain his composure.

Elina normally never talked back, but for the first time, she defied him. “Brother Jia Gui is nothing like what you describe!”

“Oh, of course he isn’t. He’s exceptionally talented at hiding and running. If the Divine Civilization had a ranking for cowards, he’d be number one!” the Light God King snapped.

The Light Faction had been hunting Jia Gui for days, but the bastard had always managed to dodge their large-scale operations as if he could see the future.

At first, the Light God King assumed it was because of Jia Gui’s Concealment Jurisdiction. However, with every escape, the Light God King suspected that someone was feeding him information.

There was a traitor inside the Light Faction!

Jia Gui had thus become a thorn in the Light God King’s side. The latter wanted nothing more than to rip the man apart and feed his remains to dogs.

Then, Elina suddenly showed up, demanding his blessing for her and Jia Gui. She was all but confessing that she was working with the man!

“Everyone’s gone mad. Guards! Take Elina away and lock her in the dungeon. She’s not to be released without my command,” the Light God King ordered, absolutely pissed.

Two Light Faction members stepped forward and escorted Elina to the dungeon. A prodigy of her generation reduced to a prisoner. It was tragic, but Elina didn’t care. Her eyes burned with an obsession for Jia Gui. She already considered herself his woman.

Once the guards left, a faint sound came from beside Elina. Jia Gui deactivated his Concealment Jurisdiction and flashed her a grin.

Elina hurried over, using her body to shield him from the dungeon guards’ view.

“Brother Jia Gui, you came to see me again,” she whispered, her cheeks flushed.

Jia Gui stared at her, drool practically running down his chin. If not for the cramped space, he would have sealed the deal right then and there.[3]

“Elina, you’ve suffered so much. Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of here as soon as I can,” Jia Gui said with deep affection, his wrinkled old face bunched up like a chrysanthemum.

Behind him, a nearly invisible Divine Ring was working its effect, though Elina couldn’t detect it because of the Concealment Jurisdiction. Jia Gui’s Divine Ring had the ability of bewitchment.[4]

At Jia Gui’s Microcosm rank strength, Elina had no hope of resisting his repeated hypnotism and had been completely brainwashed into his devoted follower.

After soothing her with a few more words, Jia Gui quietly slipped out of the dungeon and called Sun Qingnian. “Brother Sun, it’s me, Jia Gui. I’m completely sold on your method. Elina is eating out of my hand now, calling me ‘Brother Jia Gui’ nonstop. It’s making my knees weak.”

“The conditioning isn’t fully set yet,” Sun Qingnian warned. “You need to keep at it. Remember, keep pointing out her flaws. Make her feel like she’s not good enough for you. Keep the pressure up. Your Bewitchment Ring lowers her mental defenses by a huge margin.”

“Don’t worry, Brother Sun. I’ll keep working on her. When we get married, you’re definitely the best man.” Jia Gui was so excited that he had already picked out names for their future children.

Sun Qingnian chuckled, then turned serious. “I almost forgot. I have something to ask you. Have you finished mapping out the Light Faction’s layout as I asked? Is all the intel organized?”

“Done ages ago. I’ll send it over right now.” Jia Gui transmitted everything he had gathered on the Light Faction to Sun Qingnian.

When Sun Qingnian received the intel, he split it into ten copies and handed them to his spies embedded in the Light Faction for verification. The result came back 100% accurate.

Jia Gui really is a talented individual, though he’s been using it in the wrong ways, Sun Qingnian thought to himself. Winning a girl’s heart through manipulation and bewitchment is dirty. Sincerity is the only real winning move. Then again, asking that of Jia Gui is asking too much. His face robbed him of any chance at normal courtship for the first half of his life.

After compiling Jia Gui’s intel, Sun Qingnian passed it along to his network of informants. What those informants did with the information to turn a profit was none of his business.

The only instruction he gave when handing over the intel was this: Make sure every faction hostile to the Light Faction learns its layout.

“Han Wu, your brother has buried the mines for you. All that’s left is for you to blow the Light Faction to pieces,” Sun Qingnian muttered after finishing up. [5]
