Chapter 989 - Undead Disaster
“How could this happen?” Daniel exclaimed.
He could barely believe it. The powerful Sword Demon form had simply dissolved on its own. Was it simply because the crystal greatsword had broken?
Han Wu landed beside Daniel in his Fire Dragon King form. He had expected this outcome.
During his battle against the Final King’s replica inside the Golden Tree, the replica had subtly hinted to Han Wu that the key to defeating him lay in the sword. The black longsword had served as Lingray’s key. As long as he possessed it, his Form changes were unrestricted. Without it, Lingray was a tiger without fangs.
Han Wu even suspected that Lingray had fallen because the black longsword had broken, though that was only his speculation.
He looked at Daniel and considered what to do with him.
Daniel was an ancient undead who had lived for countless years. Realizing that he couldn’t fight Han Wu anymore, he rushed to beg for mercy. “Don’t kill me! I’m willing to accept you as my master and serve you. I can use my power to control the legion Lingray left behind. They’ll fight for you and help you become the White Soul Civilization’s new king.”
That was what he said aloud. Inwardly, however, Daniel seethed with resentment. He believed that his defeat was only temporary. Once the opportunity presented itself, he would regain the upper hand. For now, his priority was to keep Han Wu calm and survive. As long as he stayed alive, there was still hope. If all else failed, he would simply outlive Han Wu and seize his corpse! It was the same plan he had used before. The only uncertainty was how long Han Wu would live. Until then, all he could do was endure.
After listening to Daniel’s pledge of loyalty, Han Wu considered it carefully. Daniel had mentioned becoming the White Soul Civilization’s king, and that prospect genuinely interested him.
Within the White Soul Civilization, the king was the supreme ruler. The position received the Golden Will’s recognition and even its gifts, both of which were incredibly valuable to Han Wu right now.
“How does one become the king?” Han Wu asked.
Daniel answered eagerly, “You need recognition from more than ten major factions. After that, you come to the Golden Tree for a coronation and become the king. The stronger the factions that acknowledge you, the more of the Golden Will’s power you can borrow as the king.”
Han Wu nodded. The requirements didn’t sound especially difficult. The real question was what qualified as a major faction.
Before he could ask, the Desolation Manifestation answered. The White Soul Civilization had many major factions, and they were judged by two main criteria. First, whether the faction had a powerful Ninth Form fighter guarding it. Second, whether it had a large number of powerful fighters.
By Han Wu’s count, the Full Moon Library and the Fire Worship Cult were two genuine major factions he had already encountered. Daniel’s forces barely qualified as a new major faction. As for the Golden City, it fell slightly short by most standards, but the sheer number of powerful fighters was enough to place it among them.
In other words, Han Wu had already secured recognition from four major factions. He still needed six more.
Han Wu had come to the White Soul Civilization primarily to find the treasure that the Death God King needed. The Golden Rune was now fully unsealed, so he could return to the Divine Civilization whenever he wished.
The prospect of becoming king, however, convinced him to stay a few more days. The Divine Civilization’s situation was unstable, and every increase in strength meant another layer of protection. Nonetheless, his time was limited. He couldn’t stay in the White Soul Civilization for long. He needed to conquer six more major factions as quickly as possible.
“Is there a place in the White Soul Civilization that has six major factions in one location?”
Han Wu posed the same question to both the Desolation Manifestation and Daniel.
Both gave him the same answer: Apocalypse City, the city established by the White Soul Civilization’s First King.
After the First King died, his descendants split into separate factions. Over the years, other major factions from across the civilization had also established themselves there. By now, Apocalypse City held far more than just six major factions.
Han Wu’s eyes lit up. If he could take Apocalypse City in one swoop, he could achieve his goal of becoming king in no time.
Daniel felt the plan was risky. He had failed to conquer Apocalypse City on his own, which was exactly why he had been so desperate to recruit Han Wu. What Daniel couldn’t accomplish, however, Han Wu just might.
With his mind made up, Han Wu brought Daniel’s forces along and headed straight for Apocalypse City.
The army was enormous, and every member had at least Sixth Form strength. Every faction they passed took one look at the advancing force and froze with fear, terrified that Han Wu would wipe them out on a whim.
Han Wu couldn’t be bothered with such minor factions. All his focus was on Apocalypse City.
After three days of marching, Han Wu and his army arrived outside Apocalypse City. The city lived up to the First King’s legacy. It was ancient and massive. According to the Desolation Manifestation’s scouting, the city covered an area at least 3,000 times larger than Galewind City, housing no fewer than 1 billion life forms.
Han Wu’s army hadn’t even reached the city gates before a coalition of the major factions emerged to block their way. Han Wu’s forces were simply too strong on average. Allowing them into the city would cause chaos.
Han Wu saw the coalition and decided to turn the confrontation into war. He had been looking for an excuse to attack, and Apocalypse City had just handed him one on a silver platter.
They won’t let me in? Fine. Then war it is!
Han Wu would fight his way in. At his command, Daniel reluctantly led Lingray’s former retainers into battle against the coalition forces. The battle quickly grew fierce, and both sides suffered heavy losses.
Han Wu hung back behind the lines, waiting for corpses to pile up. He used every fallen soldier to summon skeletons. It was the most basic way to build an undead army.
As the battle escalated, Han Wu’s skeleton legion entered the fray. Massive numbers of powerful skeletons surged toward Apocalypse City, triggering battle alerts throughout the major factions stationed inside.
Complex defensive formations activated one after another, unleashing devastating elemental barrages against the undead army.
Daniel led his forces in the first wave. The formations hammered them, inflicting devastating casualties.
Seeing this, Han Wu knew it was his turn to step in.
Countless formations immediately locked onto him and bombarded him with everything they had. On the receiving end, Han Wu was thrilled. Every attack contained raw energy. Under the deluge of energy attacks, Han Wu used the Conversion Jurisdiction’s Energy Conservation effect to convert every last bit of incoming energy into bone sand.
The massive barrage produced a vast sea of bone sand. From that bone sea, Han Wu shaped countless Jackal Deathsworns.
Seeing the endless army of fearless Jackal Deathsworns, Daniel was completely convinced. He felt that his hundreds of years as the Undead King had been wasted! Next to Han Wu, he was nothing.
Han Wu was the true Undead King. No, even that title fell short. He was a walking undead force of nature!
