Chapter 2413 - 2406: Joanna
"Ah!"
Qin Xiaoju burst into tears again.
"Scumbags like that should just be locked up. Big sis, why are you still crying?"
"Li Dazhuang may be a bastard, but without him, what are my son and I supposed to live on?" Qin Xiaoju sobbed.
Wang Dadong had thought it was something serious, and said carelessly, "It’s fine, big sis. If you run into any trouble in the future, just speak up. I’ll take care of you and your boy!"
As he spoke, Wang Dadong wrote down a phone number and handed it to Qin Xiaoju, telling her to call him if she ever needed help. He then emptied all the cash from his wallet and gave it to her.
After leaving the hospital, Wang Dadong was called over by Chen Bowen again.
He arrived at Chen Bowen’s siheyuan courtyard.
"Come, my young friend, let me introduce someone to you." Chen Bowen pointed at the woman beside him.
The woman was extremely tall; even sitting down, you could tell she was noticeably taller than Lin Shiyan.
Her chest was impressively developed, actually reaching a terrifying 36F. Her figure was downright incredible—curves in all the right places, perfectly proportioned. Most importantly, she was very beautiful. High, straight nose, sexy lips, and a waterfall of long hair cascading over her shoulders.
Seeing Wang Dadong, Chen Bowen said happily, "My young friend, you’re here. Sit, sit. Let me introduce you—this is Miss Joanna. Her father is American, but she now holds Huaxia Country citizenship. She’s been studying in America all this time and only flew back yesterday. Don’t be fooled by her age, she’s already a medical PhD."
Chen Bowen pointed at the beauty as he spoke.
"You’re Joanna, I know you! You once won the Lasker International Medical Award!" Mi Xue covered her mouth and exclaimed, her gaze at Joanna full of worship.
The woman’s expression was indifferent, her eyes full of arrogance.
Wang Dadong wasn’t impressed. He’d never even heard of this Lasker thing, so he looked at Mi Xue, puzzled. "Teacher Mi Xue, is that Lasker-whatever award really that badass?"
"Of course. That’s the highest honor in the medical field!"
The man beside Joanna gave Wang Dadong a disdainful glance and said, "It’s called the Lasker International Medical Award. To put it plainly, it’s only one level below the Nobel Prize. You don’t even know that? What a country bumpkin."
Wang Dadong didn’t care about the man’s mockery. Instead, he turned to Chen Bowen and asked, "And what award did this gentleman win?"
Chen Bowen looked a bit embarrassed. "This is Miss Joanna’s assistant, his name is Jack."
"Oh, so you’re the assistant. My apologies, my apologies." Wang Dadong said with a grin.
Jack’s face instantly darkened. Wang Dadong’s mouth said "my apologies," but his eyes were full of contempt.
Seeing the atmosphere turn sour, Chen Bowen hurriedly said, "The hospital is sending a team to participate in a medical skills exchange competition, lasting one week. After discussion among the hospital leadership, we’ve decided that you, Mi Xue, Joanna, and her assistant will go together. This competition is extremely important—it concerns the reputation of Imperial Capital First People’s Hospital. I hope you can get a good ranking."
"Old Chen, I came to the Imperial Capital this time with a mission. Now you suddenly want me to join some medical exchange—you have to get approval from my boss first." Wang Dadong said, a bit troubled.
"Don’t worry, I’ve already checked with Miss Lin. Miss Lin has agreed." Chen Bowen said with a broad smile.
"Damn..." Wang Dadong had been planning to use the Female CEO as a shield, but this old fox had beaten him to it.
Anyway, he was in the Imperial Capital with the Female CEO to cast actors, and the schedule was set for a whole month. Being away for a week shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Since the other city was just next door, they chose to travel by train.
That night, Wang Dadong and Mi Xue took a cab to the train station and found Joanna and Jack in the waiting hall.
"Hi! Sorry to keep you waiting!" Wang Dadong smiled.
"Not long, only an hour." Jack turned his head with a sulky look.
"Heh, sorry, something held me up for a bit. But I’m here now, aren’t I?" Wang Dadong’s gaze slid over to Joanna. She’d changed into a T-shirt today, and her full peaks were about to burst through the fabric. Damn, does milk really work that well? She’s like a walking dairy cow.
Just then, the station broadcast sounded: "Dear passengers, train K345 from the Imperial Capital to Jingnan City has arrived. Please begin boarding."
"Let’s go." Joanna felt a bit self-conscious under Wang Dadong’s gaze.
"Oh, we can board now!" Wang Dadong said.
The waiting hall instantly surged as people began to board. Joanna had a ton of luggage—besides two extra-large suitcases, she had two shoulder bags. Jack was dragging a suitcase in each hand, with a big bag hanging around his neck, panting like a dog.
In contrast, Wang Dadong and Mi Xue barely had any luggage, just one suitcase, which Wang Dadong was pulling.
"You seriously aren’t going to lend a hand?" Jack grumbled when he saw Wang Dadong strolling along with his single suitcase.
Wang Dadong said playfully, "Aren’t you the assistant? How could I steal your job? So you’d better carry it yourself."
After boarding, Wang Dadong stowed their luggage and found their soft-sleeper berths. Joanna had the top bunk, Mi Xue the middle, Wang Dadong the bottom, and Jack was across from them. The four of them got onto their bunks. The train started moving, and aside from the clacking of the tracks, the compartment was quiet. Joanna was reading a newspaper, and Mi Xue was on her bunk flipping through a magazine.
"Teacher Mi Xue, got any other books? Lend me one." Wang Dadong asked.
"Yeah, here you go!" Mi Xue took a magazine from her bag and handed it to him.
After a few pages, Wang Dadong started feeling sleepy—not truly tired, just bored—so he simply dozed off.
He didn’t know how long he’d been out when the train’s broadcast jolted him awake. He sat up and saw that Joanna, Mi Xue, and Jack were all gone.
"Huh, where’d they go?" Wang Dadong muttered.
He shook his head, planning to go take a leak. Just as he reached the restroom door, he saw Joanna and Mi Xue coming out—it turned out they’d gone to pee.
Joanna didn’t even glance at Wang Dadong, just walked straight past him.
Damn, that’s some attitude.
"Wang Dadong, people with real ability are all like that. Don’t hold it against Sister Anna, she’s my idol." Seeing that he was a bit annoyed, Mi Xue quickly said.
"Teacher Mi Xue, I’ve got plenty of ability too. How come you don’t treat me like an idol?" Wang Dadong blinked at Mi Xue as he spoke.
Mi Xue was still wondering how to respond when the train broadcast suddenly sounded: "There is a little boy in Car 7 who has fainted, with high fever, convulsions, vomiting, and weak breathing. His condition is extremely critical. Any doctors on board, please proceed to Car 7 immediately."
