Chapter 1271: Surprise Attack
BOOM!
An explosion shook the Remivas family mansion located on the northern side of the city. The massive explosion attracted countless people’s attention as they instantly turned to look toward the mansion.
Their eyes widened when they saw black smoke rising from the mansion. For cultivators, they could clearly see from afar that part of the mansion had already been destroyed.
Those searching for the assassin also stopped what they were doing and wondered what had happened. They immediately made their way toward the mansion.
As more people approached the mansion, they saw a cloaked figure flying away from the destroyed estate while being chased by several cultivators from the Remivas family. They were guards and elders of the family.
"You will not escape!" one of the elders at Immortal Saint Stage shouted as he tried to trap the cloaked figure with space laws.
However, the cloaked figure suddenly attacked his pursuers with a sword. He slashed toward them as powerful sword energy burst from his blade. The moment the sword energy appeared, it created a sharp sensation and overwhelming pressure that caused everyone watching to widen their eyes in astonishment.
They were shocked not only by the power contained within that slash but also by the strong red energy that was very familiar to them.
"Tarius’ followers! We are under attack from those savages!" one of the elders shouted as he and several other elders at Immortal Saint Stage moved to block the sword slash.
Four Low Immortal Saint cultivators created energy shields to block the attack, which truly shocked them.
They could sense that the attacker’s cultivation was only at Low Immortal Overlord Stage. Yet the attack contained enough power to injure cultivators at their level!
Their hearts trembled.
How could this bastard be this powerful?
A few more people finally arrived at the scene, and this time, one of them was the patriarch of the Remivas family himself. Accompanying him were two grand elders who possessed the same cultivation as him, both at Peak Immortal Saint Stage.
The patriarch of the family, Yeriz Remivas, frowned as he looked at the destruction of his mansion before shifting his gaze toward the cloaked figure.
The cloaked figure was a man at Low Immortal Overlord Stage.
Even after witnessing it with his own eyes, Yeriz found it difficult to believe.
Despite being merely a Low Immortal Overlord, his attacks possessed enough power to injure cultivators at Low Immortal Saint Stage. That was something unheard of.
It meant a person could fight someone an entire major realm above him, and that opponent was even an Immortal Saint.
If the man were at Peak Immortal Overlord Stage, it would be far more believable, despite the enormous chasm between Peak Immortal Overlord Stage and the Low Immortal Saint Stage.
But a Low Immortal Overlord?
That was absurd.
That was impossible.
Yet that impossibility was unfolding right before his eyes.
At this moment, several elders at the Low Immortal Saint Stage tried to restrain the man. But his movement technique, which allowed him to teleport, truly made things difficult for his opponents. His attacks were also powerful enough that the elders chose to evade them rather than block them directly.
One of the elders at Middle Immortal Saint Stage finally decided to intervene.
She used her control over wind laws to trap the intruder within a wind prison. Countless sharp winds capable of slicing through everything quickly formed around him and sealed him inside.
She then manipulated the surrounding space so that he could not escape through any technique related to space laws.
Then another elder joined, and this time it was a man. He used an illusion technique that made it difficult for the intruder to focus and control his energy. This was to prevent him from committing suicide by blowing himself up.
The man’s eyes remained deadpan as if he were completely trapped within the illusion. However, occasional twitches throughout his body revealed that he was fighting against it, which astonished the elder.
’He’s actually fighting against my illusion.’
After their combined efforts, everything seemed to be over. The man appeared to have given up as he no longer fought back.
"Caught you, you bastard!" one of the elders shouted in irritation after finally managing to suppress the man. He felt humiliated that he had been unable to subdue someone far weaker than himself even with the assistance of other Immortal Saint cultivators.
The man merely floated in the air with a deadpan gaze. Cultivators from the Remivas family had already surrounded him from every direction.
Yeriz, who saw that the man had finally been captured, approached him. His cold eyes stared at the intruder, who seemed to have already completely fallen under the illusion technique.
"You will regret attacking my home. I will make sure to take every piece of information from you," Yeriz said before turning to one of the grand elders behind him.
"Grand Elder Vier, I will leave this matter to you."
"Yes, my lord."
Yeriz looked at the man once more, but he froze when he saw the man smile.
A bad feeling suddenly rose within him.
Before he could think further, he sensed something from beneath the ground.
He immediately looked down and saw a massive shining formation spread across the surface. It covered more than four hundred square meters.
His eyes widened in shock as he sensed a terrifying amount of energy gathering within the formation.
"Defend yourselves!" he roared.
Some of those who had already sensed the formation instantly created energy barriers to protect themselves. The others did the same, but not everyone had enough time.
The formation suddenly unleashed a giant pillar of blue flames.
The blue flames possessed enough power to burn even Peak Immortal Saint cultivators!
The pillar reached the sky and instantly illuminated the dark night. The flames split the clouds apart and could be seen across the city and even from thousands of kilometers away.
The pillar of flames lasted for more than ten seconds before finally disappearing, returning the night to darkness.
After the flames disappeared, most of the Remivas family’s cultivators who had been trapped within the pillar were already gone!
Most of them were cultivators at Immortal Overlord Stage. There were also three Low Immortal Saints and two Middle Immortal Saints among the dead.
Yeriz had protected himself with a defensive talisman that he activated when the pillar of flames shattered his defensive barrier. The other two Peak Immortal Saint cultivators behind him had done the same, and all three of them were protected by defensive talismans.
Yeriz looked at the scene before him with cold eyes.
He could sense that many of his family’s elders had just died because of that surprise attack!
He had never sensed that the man had already prepared such a deadly formation, one powerful enough to unleash an attack that could even endanger Peak Immortal Saint cultivators!
The moment the formation activated, it was already too late.
If not for his quick reaction and decisive thinking, he would have died within that pillar of flames as well.
But not all of his family’s cultivators had the same luck as him and the other survivors.
They had not been fast enough. Even if they had reacted in time, they possessed nothing capable of protecting them from the pillar of flames.
’Is that a talisman formation or something? But to possess a talisman of that level, he must be a high-ranking figure among Tarius’ followers.’
And the most infuriating thing was that the man had actually escaped!
He had already disappeared by the time the pillar of flames vanished.
Yeriz gritted his teeth and looked toward the elders of his family who were still alive.
"Close the gates of the city! Activate the city’s defensive formation! We will search every part of the city for that bastard. Maybe he is not the only one among Tarius’ followers," he shouted.
"Yes, my lord."
The elders answered before flying in different directions to carry out the order.
The grand elders remained with Yeriz as he looked toward them.
"Grand Elder Vier, I will still leave the matter of that bastard Tarius’ follower to you. Grand Elder Terva, you will coordinate with all the noble families in this city to search for any of those bastards. I will report this matter to the temple."
The two grand elders then left Yeriz’s side.
Yeriz himself returned to the mansion as he intended to inform the temple about this surprise attack.
The people who had witnessed everything understood that the city would be in turmoil for the next few days.
However, many of them still did not realize that the turmoil would be far greater than they imagined.
When news of the assassinations finally spread across the city as the sun started to rise, many were truly shocked by the scale of the attack.
This was unprecedented in the city’s history.
Many important figures of the city had been killed by assassins, and the culprits were followers of Tarius.
Many had not expected Rudraf City to be attacked by Tarius’ followers because the city was located in the heart of the domain.
They believed that no one from that side would dare launch such an attack.
That belief collapsed after what had happened last night.
Their city was far more vulnerable to attacks from Tarius’ followers than they had ever imagined.
Yeriz, as the de facto leader of the city and the person with the greatest authority, was truly furious at this moment. The attack was far worse than he had imagined.
He clenched his fists as he thought about how the bastard who had killed many members of his family was still not caught.
Moreover, one of the assassination victims was his son!
His fury could not be described.
Since becoming the patriarch of the Remivas family, he had never felt such fury and humiliation before.
’I will skin them alive if they fall into my hands!’
The image of that man’s smiling face flashed through his mind, causing the killing intent in his eyes to grow even stronger.
