Chapter 1269: More Killings
Just hearing how Valdis would end up already gave Mei Zhilan satisfaction. She could hardly wait for the news of his death to reach her ears. Or perhaps even better, if she could see how he died with her own eyes.
But she did not want to hinder the Great Emperor’s plan, so hearing of his death was enough.
"The Immortal’s Roses can help me keep track of Valdis’s movements later. If he really comes tonight, then you can inform me," the avatar said.
Mei Zhilan nodded.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
After that, they discussed other matters for more than fifteen minutes before the avatar left the Immortal’s Roses.
Mei Zhilan looked at the empty seat where the avatar had just been sitting and released a sigh of relief. She looked at the ceiling with a smile. She could not help but feel a happiness she thought she would never experience.
It was a joyful sensation that made her want to run outside and tell her sisters that they would be free.
’Well, let’s get back to work now,’ she thought before transforming into her human form and walking out of the room.
The avatar was already outside the red-light district, observing other locations. He changed his face into that of a different person since his previous appearance had already been seen by many people.
He visited several districts where he observed the places where he would carry out his missions later. He even visited some of his targets.
For example, one of his targets was visiting a restaurant with his followers. The avatar could watch them closely from the same building and even on the same floor. He could easily kill the target, but he chose not to.
He was patient. He would wait until later and deliver a greater shock to everyone in the city, just as he had planned.
-----------------------------
Time flew by, and night finally arrived. The nightlife in Rudraf had begun, and in this city, even the nightlife was much more bustling than the activities during the day. Many people who had already finished their daily activities could finally enjoy themselves by visiting the many entertainment establishments across the city.
The nobles were no exception, as some members of noble families could be seen walking through various streets of the city.
One such person was an elder named Fredrick Ivales. He was an elder of the local noble family, the Ivales family, which had close connections to the Remivas family.
He visited one of the theater buildings to watch the night’s theatrical performance.
Not all entertainment establishments in the city offered carnal pleasure, and this place was one of them. Instead, it offered theatrical performances, something enjoyed by those who appreciated the art of acting.
Elder Fredrick came alone to the theater a few moments before the show started. In his opinion, there was no need to bring anyone with him, even for his security, as he himself was a Low Immortal Saint cultivator. He was strong enough to protect himself.
He was also a member of one of the most famous noble families in the city. He believed that no one would dare do something foolish to him.
He had already done many things that attracted hostility toward him. Abusing his authority as an elder of a famous noble family was something normal for him. Yet all those who opposed him failed to do anything against him. He continued to live comfortably while those who dared stand in his way perished.
At this moment, as he enjoyed the theatrical performance, he sat inside his private room, which he had reserved so he could enjoy the show in greater privacy.
The moment the performance started, the lights in the hall went out, leaving only the stage illuminated. All gazes focused on the stage where the actors and actresses began their performance.
Elder Fredrick’s room also turned dark, and his attention remained fixed on the show. He sat on the sofa while the table before him was filled with drinks and snacks.
As he continued watching the performance, unbeknownst to him, someone was already standing right behind him in the darkness of the room. He could not sense the figure, as it was using a concealment technique beyond his ability to detect. The technique was far too profound for him to perceive, for it was created through Death Laws.
The dark figure watched the elder’s back for a moment before suddenly taking out a dagger from beneath his dark robe. With a swift movement concealed by Death Laws, he stabbed the elder directly in the forehead.
As the elder had not prepared himself for an attack, his eyes widened in shock as he felt something pierce his forehead.
He did not even see the attacker, but at that moment, he realized that he had been attacked. However, before his eyes closed forever, he sensed something that made him furious for a split second.
’Tarius’ follower!’
He could sense an energy belonging to one of Tarius’ followers before his death.
After killing the elder, the figure, who was naturally the avatar, disappeared into the darkness, leaving the corpse to be discovered by anyone who entered the room.
The avatar appeared outside the building and immediately teleported to his next target. This time, he appeared inside one of the noble family’s mansions.
Despite being unable to use his domain ability, he infiltrated the mansion with ease through teleportation, bypassing the many guards and formations protecting the estate. He appeared inside a room where he saw a middle-aged man.
The man was fat and had a black mustache. He was the person who controlled the slave market, where most of the merchandise consisted of the people that originated from this universe. He was one of the individuals responsible for the suffering of countless people.
The fat man possessed the same cultivation level as Elder Fredrick. At this moment, he was torturing a man until he looked half dead. Both of the victim’s hands were tied to the ceiling, leaving him hanging in the air.
He was half naked, with only the lower part of his body covered by a pair of tattered pants. His body was covered in wounds as the fat man continuously lashed him with a whip. The fat man wore a wild smile while continuing the beating, as though he thoroughly enjoyed what he was doing.
"You bastard surely persistent. I asked once again, where is your sister? You will free from this misery if you answer truthfully." The fat man asked with smile.
The man he tortured did not say anything. His eyes half closed but his gaze that seemed like he dead, store the spirit that he will not say anything.
"You bastard, you are certainly persistent. I will ask once again, where is your sister? You will be free from this misery if you answer truthfully," the fat man said with a smile.
The man he was torturing did not say anything. His eyes were half closed, but within his seemingly lifeless gaze remained the determination to keep silent.
"Still not talking, I see."
The fat man was about to continue lashing him when his eyes suddenly widened. He felt something pierce his forehead. At the same time, he felt someone cover his mouth, preventing him from making any sound.
He could do nothing other than accept his death. He did not even see his killer before he closed his eyes forever, following Elder Fredrick into the underworld.
The tortured man finally moved as his swollen eyes widened in shock upon seeing someone assassinate the fat man. He only saw a black-cloaked figure wearing a mask that resembled a devil. The assassin let the fat man’s body collapse to the floor as he pulled the dagger from his forehead.
The man trembled when he saw the cloaked figure look in his direction. He thought that the assassin would kill him as well.
’I’m sorry, Sister. It looks like I will have to leave you first.’
He truly believed that he was about to die and closed his eyes.
However, he was stunned when he suddenly fell as the ropes binding his hands were cut. Before his body could hit the floor, he felt someone catch him. When he opened his eyes, he was shocked to discover that the masked figure was the one holding him.
Before he could say anything, he felt a warm sensation flow through his body. His wounds healed rapidly, which left him utterly astonished. After a short while, he could no longer feel any pain in his body.
"Hide with your family somewhere that no one from this family can find you."
The figure’s voice, which sounded like that of a young man, reached his ears. He then watched as the figure opened a spatial crack and threw him into it.
He hit the ground and widened his eyes when he realized that he was already outside the mansion. He observed his surroundings and found himself in a deserted alley. He blinked several times as he realized that he had truly escaped from the mansion.
Tears gathered in his eyes before he quickly wiped them away.
’Thank you for saving me. Thank you,’ he thought to himself as he then stood up.
’Who was that man? Why did he help me and kill that bastard?’ he wondered.
But when he remembered how that figure had killed the fat man, his heart trembled. He knew that an uproar would soon spread across the city.
’Just as that man said, I have to hide. With that bastard dead, there will be an uproar, and I could be dragged into it. I have to tell Sister.’
He then ran out of the alley.
On this night, without anyone realizing it, several important people had already died, and more would follow.
