Micheal.

’Oh no!’ I muttered inwardly, a sudden spike of cold adrenaline surging through my veins. ’I think I’ve been caught.’

My mind raced, spinning frantically through options.

How on earth was I supposed to escape this immediate trap and still manage to treat Theresa myself?

I could simply knock the primary doctor out cold right here and do whatever I wanted with the body on the table. But what about the rest of the people crowded inside this room?

What about the nurses hovering by the tray of instruments, or the group of student doctors standing along the wall, watching every move to learn the procedure?

Eliminating or disabling them all silently without raising a massive alarm outside those doors was an impossible task.

Frustrated, I immediately pressed the flat of my hand against my forehead, taking a steadying breath to focus my inner power. I slowly recited a few soft, binding words under my breath, weaving a heavy layer of compulsion through the air. Once the spell took hold, I snapped my head up and locked my eyes directly onto the lead surgeon.

"Enough of this nonsense!" I yelled, letting authority boom from my chest to shatter his focus. "Let’s all get to work right now and save the patient!"

The doctor, who had been ranting and questioning my identity just seconds ago, went completely still. His eyes glazed over for a fraction of a second before he slowly nodded his head. He turned his gaze down to the unconscious patient on the table, then shifted his eyes back to meet mine, entirely devoid of his previous suspicion.

"Over to you, Doctor Eric," he said calmly, stepping back to yield his position.

My face immediately widened into a bright, triumphant smile beneath my mask. Just like that, the obstacle was gone.

Without losing another second, I took control of the tray, plunged into the task at hand, and immediately focused every single ounce of my attention on saving the baby above all else.

As the delicate procedure dragged on, the monitors began to beep erratically; Theresa’s heart rate seemed to be dropping dangerously low, her vital signs slipping into a terrifying downward spiral. But I couldn’t care more or less about her survival right now. The baby had to be kept safe, no matter the cost to her body.

I knew the fetus was barely three months old by human standards, but wolf pups were fundamentally different. Within those crucial first three months of gestation, the pup actually forms its divine wolf spirit inside the womb. If the pregnancy was improperly terminated now, the creature inside would be lost forever—and I simply could not afford for this pup to lose its wolf.

After what felt like an absolute eternity of tense, back-and-forth battle over the operating table, I was finally able to stabilize both the baby and the mother.

I instantly breathed out a long, heavy sigh of relief, the oppressive weight in my chest dissolving into pure triumph. I carefully closed up Theresa’s body, executing the final sutures with practiced precision, and then turned my head to face the lead surgeon standing silently beside me.

"Remember, the operation is done and completely successful," I said, locking my eyes onto his vacant gaze. I paused for a second to ensure the command took root in his mind before I added, "Both the mother and the child are safe."

And with that final order sealed, I moved straight to the double doors of the operating room.

Just before stepping out into the hallway, I paused, reaching up to place my hands firmly on my forehead. I whispered a few soft, rhythmic words under my breath once more, releasing a powerful wave of memory manipulation across the room, and then finally walked out through the doors with a satisfied smile hidden beneath my mask.

The lead doctor wouldn’t be able to recall a single thing about my true presence—his memory of the entire procedure would be entirely rewritten around the last words I had fed him, and the exact same mind-wipe would take hold of every nurse and assistant present in the room.

"Doctor! How is she?" Lawrence yelled out, immediately rushing toward me the very second I emerged into the corridor.

I instantly reached up and adjusted my surgical mask, tugging it firmly into place to ensure it covered my face exceptionally well. I took extra care to conceal every identifying feature from his sharp, observant eyes, leaving nothing exposed that might draw his attention or make him look twice. Only after I was satisfied did I allow my hand to fall back to my side.

I came to a brief stop, carefully schooling my expression beneath the mask. Keeping my voice deliberately flat, I spoke with calm, distant composure, making sure not to reveal even the slightest trace of emotion.

"The senior doctor will break the news to you momentarily," I said.

The words left my mouth in a steady, controlled tone. Without delaying for even the smallest fraction of a second after speaking, I brushed past him, turned away immediately, and continued walking as though there was nothing more to say.

"But doctor—"

Lawrence’s voice rang out loudly through the sterile hallway, the desperate call following after me as it echoed against the pale walls. His words chased my rapidly receding footsteps, filled with frantic urgency as he struggled to stop me and demand a real answer.

I never looked back. If he needed anything, he could just wait. The worst case scenario is any of them noticing I was the one who just came out from those doors.

Keeping my head lowered, I maintained a steady, unhurried stride, refusing to give any indication that I had heard him. My focus remained fixed straight ahead as I slipped farther down the corridor, putting more distance between us with every step.

My job here was officially done, and there was nothing left for me to say nor left for me to do.
