Micheal.

I moved out of the office quickly and hastened my steps, eager to return to the ward number I had been given earlier.

When I arrived at the hallway, I was surprised to find it entirely deserted; even the triplets were no longer standing guard or waiting by the doorstep.

Realizing they must have already moved her, I turned around and rushed straight to the central nursing station to make an inquiry.

"Doctor!" the nurse greeted immediately, looking up from her desk as I approached.

"The patient from Room 306—I am scheduled to perform an operation on her," I said, keeping my voice steady. "What was the operation room number again?"

The nurse furrowed her brows slightly, a puzzled expression crossing her face.

"Shouldn’t that detail have already been sent to your schedule?" she asked, her eyes narrowing as she began to look at me with a hint of suspicion.

I stood perfectly still, letting my borrowed identity work its magic. I could tell she couldn’t find a single physical or vocal flaw in me, and after a moment of intense scrutiny, her face relaxed just a little.

"That’s not what is important right now—I need to get in there immediately to assist the primary surgeon!" I said, shifting my tone to sound thoroughly professional and authoritative. "It’s an emergency."

Convinced by the urgency in my voice, the nurse immediately turned to her computer, typed a few quick commands into the system, and handed the room details over to me.

I took the paper, turned on my heel, and rushed straight toward the designated surgical wing. As I rounded the final corner, I saw that the triplets were indeed gathered outside in the corridor, pacing back and forth like madmen trapped in a cage.

I reached up, carefully adjusting my surgical mask to make sure it covered my face properly. Keeping my eyes focused straight ahead and without giving them a single glance, I pushed open the heavy double doors and went straight into the operating room.

I was able to blend in perfectly among the surgical team, slipping into place with practiced ease as though I belonged there all along.

No one immediately questioned my presence as I stepped beneath the sterile white glow flooding the operating room. The bright lights reflected off every polished surface, casting everything in an almost blinding clarity. Keeping my composure firmly in place, I walked steadily toward the operating table, careful not to draw unnecessary attention to myself.

Then I reached her side, and the instant my eyes fell upon the operating table, my heart almost skipped a beat.

They were already in the middle of the procedure. Everything had been prepared, and they were literally on the verge of tearing into her belly.

A sharp spike of panic shot violently through my chest, making every muscle in my body tense. My breathing threatened to falter for a split second as the sight before me forced the terrifying reality into sharp focus.

I really couldn’t afford for her to lose that baby under any circumstances.

No matter what happened inside this operating room tonight, that child absolutely had to be born alive.

Without allowing myself another moment of hesitation, I fixed my attention on the doctor standing over her.

"Let me handle it," I said firmly to the doctor who was currently holding the surgical scissors poised above her skin. My voice remained controlled, leaving no room for uncertainty despite the urgency burning inside me.

"Doctor Eric...?" he called out, abruptly stopping in the middle of his movement before lifting his gaze to me in obvious surprise. His expression tightened as he stared at me, clearly caught off guard by my sudden appearance.

"You currently aren’t even on duty this morning, and your assistance is definitely not needed in here," he added, his tone unmistakably laced with heavy skepticism as he continued looking at me with open confusion.

I almost rolled my eyes right then and there.

It took every ounce of self-control not to let my frustration show on my face.

What on earth was wrong with all of these people tonight?

The question echoed through my mind, growing louder with every passing second. It seemed as though every single person I encountered was determined to waste my time with unnecessary questions instead of allowing me to do what I had come here to do.

Couldn’t every single one of them just shut their damn mouths for once?

Let me do what I came in here to do...

...and allow me to get the hell out of this place?

I swallowed my irritation, carefully forcing every trace of annoyance back beneath the surface before anyone could notice it. When I finally spoke, my expression had already settled into one of deep concern.

"What else can I do?" I asked, making my voice sound as compassionate and sympathetic as I possibly could. "I simply cannot sit around outside and watch a patient suffer when I have the skills to help."

The words flowed smoothly from my lips, carrying just the right amount of conviction.

The doctor slowly raised his brows, his face becoming a picture of sheer confusion. He continued staring at me as though I had suddenly grown a second head, his puzzled expression making it painfully obvious that my unexpected concern was the last thing he had ever expected to hear from me.

"And since when did you ever become so deeply caring?" he asked, his suspicious eyes narrowing behind his protective visor. "You hardly even bother to check up on your assigned patients half the time—how could you suddenly have such an overwhelming interest in voluntarily carrying out an emergency operation?"

My eyes darkened instantly beneath my surgical mask.

This unbearable bastard was beginning to piss me off to no end with the endless stream of interrogating questions pouring out of his mouth.

"Speak!" he suddenly demanded, his tone hardening into steel as he took a cautious half-step back from the table. "You aren’t Doctor Eric! Who the hell are you?"
