Chapter 1458 - 1448: The Feeling of Home
The crew packed up and prepared to charter a flight back to the Imperial City.
"Chloe, is it true that Vice Admiral Shaw is getting married?" Emma Sweet didn’t know where she heard the gossip from, but she slung her bag over her shoulder, leaned over to Chloe Winston, and blinked her big eyes playfully as she asked.
"Yes, it’s on the 15th of next month." Chloe nodded; the Shaw Family sent her an electronic wedding invitation, and even delivered a paper copy to her residence.
"Wow, I heard the wedding invitation for Vice Admiral Shaw’s wedding is so hard to get. Can you show me what it looks like? Please, please?" Emma Sweet’s eyes sparkled with envy as she looked at Chloe Winston. Her own family couldn’t receive an invitation, yet Chloe Winston, who was her age, could attend the Shaw Family’s wedding.
Seeing her adorable gesture of clasping her hands together, Chloe Winston silently took out her phone and found the electronic invitation sent by Leah Squire.
The electronic invitation was beautifully designed, resembling a blockbuster movie. Although most of it featured panoramic wedding photos, there was one cover photo featuring Richard Shaw in his military uniform for the invitation, looking handsome and stern with his intimidatingly high rank, alongside the exquisite Leah Squire. Her beauty was striking, far surpassing the so-called beauties in the Entertainment Sector, with an appearance that was truly breathtaking.
Emma Sweet was seeing Vice Admiral Shaw’s appearance for the first time. Though his reputation was well-known, his low profile had kept her in the dark; she didn’t follow the news much. Her family were wealthy merchants, but their social status wasn’t high enough to interact with prestigious families like the Shaw Family.
"I kind of regret seeing it," Emma Sweet pouted and lamented, "I always thought I looked okay, then I met you. Just when I regained a bit of confidence, I saw Leah Squire; it’s like the heavens are against me."
Seeing her comical pose, Chloe Winston couldn’t help but smile softly and said, "Mrs. Shaw is indeed a rare beauty."
Leah Squire was like a flame—bold in love and hate. Only someone like her could make Vice Admiral Shaw love her so wholeheartedly.
"Chloe, are you attending the wedding alone?" Emma Sweet asked, her mood quickly recovering.
"Yes, but I still haven’t decided on a gift." The Shaw Family set specific limits for cash gifts this time, so Chloe Winston planned on giving a present instead. Weddings in the Imperial City are extravagantly expensive affairs.
"Cater to their preferences. But I think their family lacks for nothing."
While they were talking, Emilio Greenwood ran over excitedly and whispered, "Emma, I’ve finally managed to escape. I came in Mr. Stewart’s car, and the atmosphere there gave me goosebumps. Chloe, why did you run so fast? Mr. Stewart is still looking for you."
Ever since Emilio Greenwood and others had dinner with Constantine Stewart on their first day at the Holiday Village, they had scattered like birds and beasts, unwilling to have close encounters with Constantine anymore.
Chloe Winston had deliberately taken the shuttle to the airport; her peripheral vision caught Emilio Greenwood, and sure enough, saw director Faust escorting Constantine Stewart into the airport. Stewart had recovered from his leg fracture and couldn’t walk fast, so Faust was keeping his pace, talking as he ambled.
"I think Director Faust has it pretty tough; he actually dares to walk alongside Mr. Stewart." Emma Sweet laughed out loud when she saw the big, burly Faust standing next to the refined, handsome, 6’2" Constantine Stewart, the contrast was striking.
"Hurry up, what were you talking about earlier?" Emilio Greenwood urged.
"We were talking about Vice Admiral Shaw’s wedding. Emilio, did your family receive an invitation?" Emma Sweet asked quietly.
"No way, I heard Vice Admiral Shaw’s wedding only invited eight tables with ten people each, which totals only 80 people. Think about how many prestigious families and high-ranking officials there are in the Imperial City. I heard you can’t attend unless you’ve had decades of friendship with the Shaw Family; it doesn’t matter what your social status is, there’s no chance my family would get to go. Only the elite among elites are invited." Emilio nodded.
Emma Sweet glanced at Chloe Winston, chuckled, and made up her mind to cling to Chloe for dear life.
The group boarded the plane and flew straight back to the Imperial City.
Chloe Winston returned to Spring Prosperity Garden, and noticed that in the 2 months she’d been away, the flowers and plants in the small garden had grown even more lush. The trellis previously built was almost entirely covered in verdant vines, enveloping the entire villa in a layer of green, making it an uplifting sight.
Finnian should have gone to work, and Chloe Winston sighed in relief. She didn’t know why, but there was always a sense of awkwardness, especially since she would be relocating for over 5 months and didn’t know how to bring it up to him.
Chloe Winston had been home resting for less than an hour when Zheng Gu arrived with the housekeeper to pick her up.
"Mr. Stewart says the villa has everything, Miss Winston just needs to bring her personal belongings." Zheng Gu said with a smile; he’d long predicted that the Stewart family’s new lady would return someday.
Chloe Winston thought it would be good to take advantage of Finnian’s absence to move out, nodded, and realizing her luggage didn’t need repacking, she simply rolled them along.
After getting in the car, Chloe Winston noticed Constantine Stewart was there too, quietly sitting in the back seat, his gaze mysteriously deep.
In the two weeks since they signed that agreement, Constantine Stewart hadn’t been spending much time around her.
"Hungry? There’s food ready at home; you can eat when you arrive." Constantine Stewart said naturally.
Chloe Winston, having had fruit and an airplane meal, wasn’t particularly hungry. She bit her lip uncertainly, unsure how to interact with Constantine Stewart, and said cautiously, "Not hungry."
Saying so, she sat in the back seat, scrolling through her social media.
Constantine Stewart didn’t say anything more, continuing to look at his papers.
Due to the popularity of "Dark Abyss," Chloe Winston’s online fame was soaring, gaining nearly a million followers a day, already approaching 90 million.
Because Victoria herself was very popular, she didn’t receive as much attention in this drama. Chloe, Emilio, and Emma Sweet were insanely popular, with Chloe being the most of all. The main couple was propped up by Emilio and Victoria, while the subplot was supported by Chloe, making the series extraordinarily successful.
Silent the whole way, they arrived at the private residence on Fulham Road, where the housekeeper moved Chloe Winston’s luggage to the master bedroom upstairs.
"For now, you’ll sleep in the master bedroom, I’ll take the adjacent room." Constantine Stewart said calmly, as he came upstairs.
Chloe Winston nodded, not wanting to discuss such trivial matters with him, and went into the master bedroom to organize her belongings. Constantine’s careful distance was a relief to her.
Seeing her enter and close the door, Constantine Stewart stood in the hallway for a while, then controlled himself and returned to his room. Leaning against the wall, he chuckled softly, feeling the house seemed less cold now, with a genuine sense of home.
