Chapter 71: Sophie Wexler Unconscious, Abnormal Vital Signs
The sudden turn of events stunned everyone, and for a moment, they scrambled to react.
Someone moved to take her from Cillian Forrest’s arms, but one glance from him made the person instinctively retract their hands.
"Hurry up and get a medical bed!" Ethan Cross urged from the side.
Right. Of course.
His words snapped them to attention, and they immediately began preparing the medical equipment.
They were, after all, the military district’s medical team. After a moment of disarray, they began preparing the various instruments with practiced efficiency, their movements exceptionally swift.
Cillian Forrest lifted her and placed her on the medical bed. As he was about to stand up, Sophie Wexler subconsciously gripped his hand.
His spiritual power flowed slowly into Sophie Wexler’s Spiritual Sea through their skin-to-skin contact.
Seeing this, Ethan Cross’s expression changed. "Your Spiritual Sea..." he said, worried.
It was already unstable. He had just killed the Starbug, and then he had supplied Miss Wexler with a large amount of spiritual power.
The Marshal’s own condition was already grim, and now Miss Wexler was continuing to draw from him...
Cillian Forrest knew what he was about to say. The panic on his face had vanished, replaced by a calm expression. "Don’t worry," he said coolly. "I won’t die."
’My body is already like this. What’s one or two more times?’
Every time, the Medical Masters would tell him how severe the problems with his Spiritual Sea were, issuing all sorts of warnings. He was sick of hearing it.
As he spoke, he let Sophie Wexler keep her hold on his hand, not pulling away in the slightest.
Beside the bed, various instruments were connected to Sophie Wexler’s Spiritual Sea, their readings constantly jumping and fluctuating.
As time ticked by, the expressions on the faces of the Medical Masters grew increasingly grim.
Seeing this, Cillian Forrest’s brow furrowed tightly. "What exactly is wrong with her?"
The military medic wiped the sweat from his brow, hesitating to speak several times.
"Speak!" Cillian Forrest commanded harshly.
As the word left his lips, the Medical Masters immediately felt the intense pressure of his spiritual power.
They were shaken by his intimidating aura, a sense of shock and doubt rising within them.
’The General had said this man was Major General Cross’s aide, but looking at him now, he doesn’t seem like it at all. If anything, Major General Cross looks more like *his* aide.’
Cillian Forrest realized his unstable emotions had caused his spiritual power to leak out, and he immediately reined it in.
He calmed himself, then raised his eyes to the military medic before him. "Tell me, what’s wrong with her?"
The medic immediately replied, "Miss Wexler’s Spiritual Sea is abnormally active, likely due to the massive expenditure just now. The speed at which she is absorbing your spiritual power is constantly increasing."
"At the same time, the energy is flowing rapidly through her Spiritual Sea, and her vital signs are significantly above normal levels."
This was all information they could see from the instrument readings, but...
He trailed off, hesitating for a moment before concluding, "Miss Wexler’s condition is abnormal, but besides the immense overexertion, we can’t find any other cause."
But all her abnormal vital signs indicated that it was definitely not just that one reason.
Hearing this, Cillian Forrest’s brows knitted tightly. He turned to Ethan Cross beside him and said, "I need you to return to the Capital Planet."
Ethan Cross understood his meaning almost instantly. He nodded and left.
Just then, Felix York, having heard the news, also rushed over. He glanced at the person on the medical bed, a layer of concern appearing on his stern face.
"How is Miss Wexler?"
’He was the one who had allowed her to come along. Sophie Wexler had helped them so much—soothing their Spiritual Seas and, this time, even clearing the Starbugs’ poison attack. If something happened to her on his watch, he wouldn’t even need Cillian Forrest to blame him; he would never forgive himself.’
"Her condition is currently unknown," Cillian Forrest said calmly.
"Unknown?"
Felix York turned to look at the military Medical Masters, who repeated their assessment of the current situation for him.
In short, the only thing they knew for sure was that it was related to overexertion. They were still in the dark about everything else.
After listening, Felix York fell silent.
He knew his own military Medical Masters had done their best. He waved a hand, dismissing them.
After everyone had left, leaving only the two of them, Felix York spoke up. "Marshal, I’m very sorry. Miss Wexler’s current condition is because she was helping us clear the Starbugs’ poison attack...."
Before he could finish, Cillian Forrest cut him off. "It has nothing to do with you."
’It’s not their fault. It’s because of me.’
Cillian Forrest pressed his lips together, his entire expression darkening as he concealed the profound depth in his eyes.
’If I had known this would happen, I should have stopped her after Leo Fane was out of danger, not let her continue.’
Felix York asked, "So what do we do now?"
’The cause isn’t important anymore. What matters is how to ensure Sophie Wexler makes it through this safely.’
"I’ve already sent Ethan Cross back to the First Legion to bring people over. When the time comes, I’ll have to ask you to make an accommodation for us, General York. They may need to stay in your military district for a while," Cillian Forrest said in a low voice.
It was common knowledge that different military districts had their own respective regulations. Personnel transfers were not common, and allowing a large number of people from another district to enter was even more restricted.
Not to mention these two legions were stationed on two entirely different planets.
Letting Cillian Forrest and Ethan Cross stay was already an exception, but Cillian Forrest’s status was undeniable.
Felix York naturally understood what Cillian Forrest meant and agreed without the slightest hesitation. "Of course!"
"Miss Wexler’s situation is the Seventh Legion’s situation. We will cooperate fully."
If it weren’t for Sophie Wexler, there was no telling how many people they would have lost this time.
Cillian Forrest nodded and then continued, "General York, is the Star Core from that S+ Starbug still around?"
After the Starbug died, he hadn’t paid any more attention to it. The people of the Seventh Legion had been handling the post-battle cleanup.
"It is." With that, Felix York took out the Star Core and handed it to Cillian Forrest. "For you."
Cillian Forrest was the one who killed the Starbug, so the Star Core was rightfully his to begin with.
Cillian Forrest took it and placed the Star Core in Sophie Wexler’s palm.
The Star Core’s energy rapidly flowed through her skin and into her body, filling her Spiritual Sea.
’Just as I thought. The Star Core of an S+ Mutant Series Starbug is a higher level and contains more absorbable energy. It should be enough to sustain her through this expenditure.’
In her hand, the light of the Star Core grew dimmer and dimmer as its energy was depleted, until it finally vanished.
Felix York had only known that she could absorb energy from Crystal Stones and Star Cores. This was the first time he had witnessed it firsthand, and his expression was filled with unconcealed astonishment.
Finally, under the gazes of Cillian Forrest and Felix York, the Star Core abruptly shattered, turning to ash.
"It shattered?!" Felix York exclaimed in disbelief.
The Star Core was the source of a Starbug’s entire spiritual power and was incredibly tough. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have remained intact when Cillian Forrest’s spiritual power had torn the Starbug to shreds.
But now, such a Star Core had simply shattered right before their very eyes!
Felix York was left completely stunned!
