Chapter 72: Leaping to SS-level
The Seventh Legion.
Ethan Cross knew the gravity of the situation. He had acted swiftly, gathering reinforcements and using Cillian Forrest’s warship to return at top speed.
The medical bay was packed with people. All sorts of equipment was being moved in, and every procedure was carried out in an orderly fashion. The Medical Masters’ hands never stopped moving for a single moment.
An immense silence filled the medical bay. Everyone stood with grave expressions, watching the scene unfold as they awaited the final result.
Finally, a Medical Master looked up from a pile of diagnostic data and walked over to Cillian Forrest.
"Marshal."
"Speak." Cillian Forrest’s eyes were dark, but his voice was steady.
"Miss Wexler is fine." The Medical Master announced the verdict under everyone’s watchful gaze.
"Fine? How can she be fine? If she were fine, she wouldn’t still be unconscious with abnormal vital signs." Felix York was worried, his words tinged with urgency.
"General York, please don’t worry. She really is fine," the Medical Master said slowly, his voice reassuring.
"What’s going on?" Cillian Forrest looked up.
"Marshal, I believe you were already aware that Miss Wexler’s spiritual power underwent a secondary growth."
After all, Cillian Forrest was the person in the Empire whose spiritual power had increased the most after his own secondary growth.
It was just that because his initial Level was already the highest, SSS, his final rating after the secondary growth was designated SSS+. No one knew the true upper limit of his spiritual power.
If most of his spiritual power wasn’t being used to suppress the Starbug toxin, no one in the Empire could stand against him.
So, when it came to secondary spiritual power growth, Cillian Forrest was the most knowledgeable.
At his words, everyone nodded. They all knew about this, and they knew she had jumped from an F-level to an S-class Healer-class.
A leap of that magnitude was unprecedented in the entire Interstellar Empire.
The moment the Medical Master finished speaking, Cillian Forrest had a strong suspicion.
The Medical Master continued, "Yes, I’m sure you’ve already figured it out, Marshal. Miss Wexler’s secondary growth period isn’t over. It’s still ongoing."
"This abnormal condition is simply another spiritual power surge."
"As you said, she just went through a massive expenditure of spiritual power, nearly depleting it completely. Under that kind of negative pressure, her Spiritual Sea expanded. Then, she absorbed a large number of Crystal Stones and the Crystal Core of an S+ Starbug. Her current Level has now officially surpassed S-class and advanced to SS."
As his words fell, the medical bay fell silent. Almost everyone was stunned.
After a long moment, once they processed what he’d said, they all gasped in unison, "SS-level!"
An SS-level Healer-class!
A Level the Empire has never seen before!
To think one would appear, just like that, right before their eyes?
Weren’t High Rank Healer-classes supposed to be incredibly rare?
It’s already incredibly difficult for a normal person to reach SS-level, let alone a Healer-class!
The astonishment on everyone’s faces was unconcealable, and their excitement was palpable.
This is fantastic!
Sophie Wexler’s body wasn’t failing; her spiritual power was increasing. How could they not be ecstatic?
"So, there’s no need for concern. Her current unconscious state is just the body’s way of self-regulating. The abnormal vital signs are also a normal phenomenon. Miss Wexler will wake up once her growing spiritual power stabilizes." The Medical Master’s final words concluded the matter.
A heavy weight was lifted from everyone’s hearts, replaced by overwhelming joy.
"Thank goodness," Felix York said. "I’m just glad Miss Wexler is okay."
"Well then, Marshal, I’ll take my leave. I’ll come see Miss Wexler again after she wakes up."
He needed to inform the entire legion that Miss Wexler was safe.
Those boys had been worried sick ever since they heard Miss Wexler was injured and unconscious. They’d been pestering their district’s Medical Masters several times a day. Now they could finally rest easy.
Cillian Forrest nodded in acknowledgment.
After packing up their instruments, the group of Medical Masters also departed.
Ethan Cross stood beside Cillian Forrest, his earlier excitement not yet faded. He turned to Cillian and said, "Marshal, Miss Wexler’s Level has increased. Now there’s hope for your toxin!"
’She reached SS-level, something no one has ever done before. Doesn’t that mean she can completely cleanse the Starbug toxin from the Marshal’s Spiritual Sea?’
Hearing this, Cillian Forrest remained silent.
He knew his toxin wasn’t as simple as they imagined.
Even though Sophie Wexler was now SS-level, she still couldn’t reach the deepest part of his Spiritual Sea.
If the toxin in the deepest part couldn’t be cleared, cleansing the poison on the periphery was of little use.
But he didn’t say that. Instead, he changed the subject, telling Ethan Cross, "I’ll watch over her. You go check on Leo Fane."
After Sophie Wexler cleansed the toxin from Leo Fane’s Spiritual Sea, he was no longer in danger. However, his body had been damaged by the Starbug toxin for years. With its sudden removal, he was inevitably weak. As the saying goes, recovering from an illness is like pulling silk from a cocoon.
On top of that, he had sustained considerable injuries in the recent battle with the Starbugs. Although he was awake after being brought back, he still had difficulty moving.
"Understood." Ethan Cross replied before turning to leave.
In the medical bay, Cillian Forrest’s gaze fell upon the person in the bed.
The young woman’s eyes were closed, her light blue hair fanned out beside her. A small beauty mark rested at the corner of her eye, which, combined with her current pallor, made her look all the more delicate.
’It seems she’s been getting hurt constantly ever since she met me.’
’She exhausted her spiritual power to soothe me. That last Starbug attack was aimed at me, but she got caught in the crossfire.’
And this time was no different. Cillian sat by her bed for a long time.
Finally, a few days later, Sophie Wexler’s consciousness began to return. A splitting headache instantly assaulted her.
’What’s happening?’
Cillian Forrest was sitting by the bed, about to take the unchanged Crystal Stone from her hand. The moment his fingers touched hers, he saw the person on the bed slowly open her eyes. Cillian froze.
"Cillian Forrest?" Sophie Wexler had just woken up, her mind still fuzzy. She looked around at her surroundings. "Where are we?"
Cillian Forrest proceeded to take the Crystal Stone from her hand and place it back in the box on the table before answering, "The Seventh Legion’s medical bay."
Only then did Sophie Wexler realize the place was indeed familiar. She had been here once before.
"Did I pass out from overexertion again?" It wasn’t the first time this had happened, so Sophie Wexler asked with practiced ease.
"You could say that."
"What do you mean, ’you could say that’?" Sophie Wexler was confused. ’Isn’t that what happened?’
"Scan your Spiritual Sea," Cillian Forrest told her. "See if you notice any problems."
"My Spiritual Sea?" Confusion filled Sophie Wexler’s eyes as she instinctively scanned it.
A few seconds later, her eyes widened in disbelief. "My Spiritual Sea expanded again? And my spiritual power has increased?"
"Mhm." Cillian Forrest confirmed. "Not only that, but your Level has now advanced to SS."
"What!" Sophie Wexler exclaimed. "SS-level!"
