Chapter 63: Copyright Signed Over to the Platform
The moment news of Sophie Wexler’s alleged plagiarism broke on StarNet, nearly everyone who had previously been seeking to collaborate with her sent a rejection message almost instantly.
They moved so fast you’d think they were afraid of getting caught in the crossfire of the plagiarism scandal if they waited even a second longer, so they scrambled to distance themselves from her.
Now that she’s cleared her name, they have the gall to come crawling back.
’What makes them think I’d still work with them?’
Hearing Sophie Wexler’s words, Benjamin Wyatt nodded. "Alright, it’s your call."
"Even if you did work with opportunistic people like them, there’s no guarantee they wouldn’t stab you in the back someday."
’Sophie Wexler’s decision not to work with them was the right one.’
"So what’s your plan now?" Benjamin Wyatt asked, looking up.
He had done his research; these were pretty much all the notable record companies on Karath, and Sophie Wexler wasn’t willing to go to The Capital Planet.
’If you ask me, she should just go to The Capital Planet. That would solve all her problems.’
At his words, Sophie Wexler lowered her gaze slightly, a bright glint flashing in her beautiful eyes.
"You’ve had a plan all along," Cillian Forrest said with complete certainty, seeing her expression.
Sophie Wexler nodded.
Just then, Sophie Wexler’s communicator chimed. It was a message from the platform.
[Entertainment Zone Supervisor: Miss Wexler, that was a brilliant move! The tide of public opinion on StarNet has completely turned.]
The rival platform had made a huge spectacle of accusing Sophie Wexler of plagiarism, banking on the fact that she couldn’t prove her innocence in a short amount of time. By the time the dust settled and everyone had moved on from the drama, who would still care about the truth?
But Miss Wexler caught them completely off guard.
She proved her innocence with a lightning-fast livestream, and she did it right on StarNet for everyone to see.
The netizens aren’t fools. They know who the better singer is the moment they hear them.
And looking back on the whole affair, they started to realize something wasn’t right.
’How could someone with that much talent possibly plagiarize?’
StarNet was absolutely buzzing, especially after Sophie Wexler ended her stream. The volume of discussion skyrocketed.
If Sophie Wexler was just considered popular on their platform before, now she was a sensation across the entire StarNet on Krakar.
[Entertainment Zone Supervisor: Miss Wexler, you’ve really blown up this time!]
Even they were getting excited watching her popularity explode on StarNet.
[Entertainment Zone Supervisor: By the way, Miss Wexler, how is the search for a record company to work with going? Did something happen? They’re all contacting me about it now.]
Sophie Wexler read the message, a small smile playing on her lips. ’So they knew it was useless to contact me directly,’ she thought. ’They found a new tactic: getting someone from the platform to act as a go-between.’
’But what they don’t know is that the platform is completely on my side.’
[Sophie Wexler: Don’t pay them any mind. I’m not planning to work with them.]
[Entertainment Zone Supervisor: Good! It’s better not to work with them! Serves them right for being in such a hurry to cut ties in the first place.]
[Entertainment Zone Supervisor: In that case, Miss Wexler, do you have a new partner in mind?]
[Sophie Wexler: I do.]
[Entertainment Zone Supervisor: Who?]
[Sophie Wexler: You.]
.
"Us?!" In the conference room, the supervisor was utterly shocked. He pointed at himself and asked in disbelief, "Miss Wexler, are you sure you mean us?"
Sophie Wexler nodded slowly. "That’s right. You heard correctly. It’s you."
’This whole incident proved they were a good potential partner,’ she thought. ’When the news broke, their first instinct wasn’t to cut ties with me. Instead, they chose to believe in me and stood unwavering by my side.’
Sophie Wexler knew the initial backlash had been enormous. The other party had been aiming to ruin them from the very beginning, so the pressure the platform had been under was immense.
Their official page had been flooded with hateful comments, especially under their initial post clarifying the situation, which was met with a sea of vitriol.
’But they didn’t abandon me. That alone proved they were worth working with.’
"You’re not interested?" Sophie Wexler asked, puzzled by the stunned expressions on their faces.
"I know you mainly focus on livestreaming, but you should be able to handle music production as well, right?"
"We can!" The supervisor finally snapped out of his shock, his voice filled with excitement. "We absolutely can!"
’A large platform like ours naturally has other business ventures.’
But he never imagined Sophie Wexler would choose them.
After all, the record companies were far more professional, with more established production processes.
That’s why he was so overcome with excitement!
He knew that with Sophie Wexler’s current level of popularity, every company was desperate to get the rights to her songs.
Once released, the songs would be unbelievably popular, guaranteed to generate enormous profits.
That’s why he was so stunned that Sophie Wexler would offer this partnership to them.
"Since Miss Wexler is willing to put her trust in us, we will, of course, give it our absolute all."
The supervisor felt incredibly fortunate that he had chosen to sign her the very first time he heard her livestream.
And he was even more fortunate that he had stuck with his decision even after learning she was the scandal-plagued Sophie Wexler.
He was even starting to look forward to seeing the netizens’ reactions when they found out Miss Wexler’s true identity.
Sophie Wexler hummed in acknowledgment. "You can discuss the specific details of our collaboration with my manager."
"Of course!" the supervisor agreed without a moment’s hesitation, the smile never leaving his face.
As Sophie Wexler was about to leave, the supervisor called out to her. "Miss Wexler, you should check StarNet when you get a chance."
Hearing this, Sophie Wexler raised a surprised eyebrow.
With Benjamin Wyatt handling things, Sophie Wexler no longer had to personally oversee many of the details.
On the way back, she remembered the supervisor’s words.
Sophie Wexler opened her Light Brain and logged into StarNet.
A moment later, she blinked her beautiful eyes twice and couldn’t help but remark, "Wow, the platform works fast."
To say StarNet was in an uproar would be an understatement.
Everyone was still buzzing from the excitement of the livestream battle. They hadn’t even finished digging into Sue Shiver’s past when they were stunned by the evidence released by the Stellara platform.
[Holy crap, so it really was Karina who plagiarized.]
[When Karina ended her stream, she was still trying to save face, saying she was just having an off day and that the song style didn’t suit her.]
[And she accused our Sue Shiver of cheating when she won, saying there’s no way she could have won. No wonder Karina was so confident at the start—turns out she was the one who was actually cheating and hiring a bot army.]
Stellara had moved with incredible speed this time. They had apparently alerted their higher-ups and mobilized their entire network, digging up all the evidence of Karina not only plagiarizing Sophie Wexler’s song but also framing her for it—they even had audio recordings of conversations.
They even released proof that she’d hired a bot army; the images showed a dense list of all the bot accounts that had been intercepted by the Light Brain system during the livestream.
[There are so many bot accounts I can’t even count them all. So that’s how she got her usual high numbers, huh.]
[And she still had the nerve to slander our Sue Shiver. What a total fraud.]
