Chapter 86: A Stream
The space was soon dug, faster than they ever thought. Sunnie and the rest stood there staring and blinking, impressed.
"Wow, that was faster than I thought..." Little Black looked closer. "And it sure does look like a river space."
Sunnie smiled. "That’s more like it."
The beavers were done with the finishing touches. They all crawled out of the hole and stood before them.
"They’re asking what they need to do next," Little Black informed.
Sunnie folded her arms as she looked ahead and explained. She explained how they now needed to dig deep from a corner in the hole. One person would need to do it—digging deeper and deeper until they arrived at the right spot.
They would go through some things like dirty water and rock and all. Sunnie explained that after that, they would get to what was needed: the clean water that would flow upward and into the stream.
Luckily, the beavers weren’t strangers to this stuff. It happened that they had dug deep enough to see such things before. It made Sunnie’s work easier.
The first male beaver, who had a wife, volunteered to get it done. And while the others sat around in the hole, the beaver made his way in, digging deeper in a smaller hole.
They waited for minutes and more. Sunnie and the rest sat down on the ground, waiting for something to happen.
An hour had gone by and nothing. They began getting worried.
"Are you sure this is possible? I haven’t heard of finding water deep underground before," Little Black explained.
"Are you even sure he’s okay?" Luka blinked.
"I doubt this is possible," Karl folded his arms. "Haven’t seen this done anywhere."
Sunnie sighed. "It’s possible. It doesn’t happen so fast and quickly; it actually takes time. And especially since it’s not a machine or anything, it’ll take longer..." She explained, worried. She hoped the beaver was okay, though.
They kept waiting for a while, and nothing happened.
Karl then got up to his feet and stared at them. "I told you that this won’t work. We should just cover up this hole and..."
"Oh! Water!" Little Black suddenly exclaimed.
Immediately, everyone turned to the direction he was pointing. There was some water flying out of the hole.
Everyone stared in shock, blinking. Sunnie smiled.
"It actually is water..." Luka was impressed.
"How’s that... possible?"
Sunnie smiled as she said, "It’s still dirty. We need to wait for him to get to the clean water first. Then the clean water will start taking over." She explained with a smile.
Now, no one objected to her words. They all stood there staring as the water kept coming and coming while taking over the hole. The other beavers had already crawled out to look from outside.
After a while, the clean water started coming out and taking over. They moved closer to take a look.
"Look, it’s getting clean," Little Black explained with a smile.
Everyone stared in amusement as the clean water started taking shape. Soon, the mice women and the rest joined them. Everyone stared in amazement at what was unfolding before them.
"How’s this possible? I haven’t seen this before!" one woman said.
"Me too! It’s a miracle!" another added.
They couldn’t help but celebrate the coming of the water, dancing and singing their local songs to the scene before them.
They finally had water, and that was enough miracle for them. Sunnie smiled as they celebrated; she felt happy about giving them all this, at least. It would help them a long way.
The male beaver was soon out as the water rushed. He shook himself off the water that drenched his body, splashing water around him as everyone stared.
Sunnie approached him with a smile. "Thanks a lot." She bowed.
The beaver nodded.
"You’re welcome. It’s his pleasure to help..." Little Black interpreted. "He’s also asking if there’s anything you need help with."
Sunnie smiled as she stared at the hole. The water was rushing in and filling up the huge hole that was made. It was obviously going to take time for that to happen. And when it did, it wouldn’t be clean immediately at all, since it came from the ground and would instantly mix with the sand and all.
Sunnie would have to treat it as well.
She shook her head. "No. You’ve already done more than enough. We’re really grateful to you for your help."
Little Black conveyed the message and returned the reply. "No need for that. He said you helped his wife, so he had to repay it, else he wouldn’t be at peace."
Sunnie smiled. She guessed they were even now. Then she offered, "Instead of leaving now, come with us. I’d like to prepare some meals for all of you to enjoy. And you can also take some back to your wife."
Sunnie insisted they come, and without much courtesy, they agreed.
Sunnie took them back with her, and she and the women proceeded with preparing something for them to eat—some decent soup, and one that would also help with his wife’s stomach.
While they prepared it in commercial quantity for them, the beavers voluntarily offered to help with the huts they were making.
Since they were big enough, they could easily place the shelters over the huts and cover them up.
Sunnie didn’t want to bother them with it, but they insisted. And they proceeded to cover up the huts with the shelters.
Everyone watched in appreciation as they covered it all up under Sunnie’s instructions. Sunnie guessed they were a bit skilled in this, given the way they were able to smoothly follow instructions and get it done in no time.
The huts were now built and covered—made of sticks, wood, leaf shelters, and animal skin. It was a solid building they had taken their time to make.
And now, all that was left was the finishing touches of putting things into the houses that could be used for sleeping and so on. If done, the houses would be ready for inhabiting.
