Chapter 89: Rewards
The two women sat under the moonlight, staring in admiration while getting to know each other better on some level, but it was more of the woman talking.
Sharing her past and experiences. Sharing stories about her husband and their love story. She also narrated his tragic death and how everything unfolded.
Sunnie’s story was more of what she recalled from the memories of the original host, detailing her experience with the rabbit clan and how she also was a figure of bad luck and ultimately sent away to die.
The woman sighed as she said, "I guess we do have a lot in common."
They both smiled as she said, "You can call me Elza." She explained.
Sunnie nodded. "I guess we’re now friends."
She smiled as she said, "And my baby’s name is Mii."
Sunnie smiled. "Such a cute name."
Elza asked, "So what do you plan on naming the little one once it’s out?"
Sunnie blinked. She felt like a terrible mother at that moment. She hadn’t even thought about that. "Well... I guess I’ll have to give it some more thought."
Elza smiled. "Well then, take your time."
Sunnie smiled as she stared ahead at the sky. "Probably something related to water or something. A name that feels blue," she explained.
Elza smiled. "I see." She nodded. "So why haven’t you slept? Don’t feel sleepy?"
Sunnie sighed. "Well, yeah. I can’t seem to fall asleep at all."
Elza smiled. "I know about these things with pregnant people. I’ve taken care of many in my clan."
"Oh, is that so? What do you think?" Sunnie inquired.
Elza said with a smile, "I think I might have the solution to that."
"Really? What?"
"Follow me."
---
Elza made her way to the side of the cave where she picked some leaves growing around there. Sunnie didn’t know what she was doing but simply observed as she squeezed them together and mixed them a bit with water.
Sunnie watched as she squeezed out some liquid and then put it in a bowl. She smiled as she handed it to Sunnie. "Here, have this. You’ll feel sleepy in a while, and your body will also calm down. I used to do this with the women."
Sunnie blinked at it. "Is that so?" She smiled. She trusted the woman. "Then I’ll have to thank you for your kindness."
She took it and sipped down the whole thing. The green, bitter herbal taste ran down her mouth as she closed her eyes, squeezing her face to savor the flavor.
When it had digested, Sunnie opened her eyes to stare at the woman, who was laughing at her.
"Don’t worry," the woman said. "You’ll be fine soon."
Sunnie smiled as the two of them sat back at their position, staring into the same scenery while discussing Elza’s skills.
Sunnie learned that she had helped pregnant women previously in her clan before her scandal. Though it wasn’t her official job, it was a skill she was good at and known for.
While they discussed that, Sunnie yawned. She suddenly felt sleepy, and the cold around her body was warming up too.
Elza smiled. "I guess it’s taking effect already."
Sunnie smiled as she yawned again. "I guess so."
She didn’t spend much time there. Sunnie soon retired back to her spot, where she instantly fell asleep. Elza sat outside for a while, still admiring the scenery as morning approached.
---
Sunnie didn’t really wake up feeling any better. Although the cold had stopped and she had slept like a baby, she still felt a bit uncomfortable around her stomach.
Perhaps this wasn’t something herbal medication could stop. Sunnie could tell that something was perhaps happening.
This time, she wasn’t feeling so cold that she needed some animal skin to keep warm; rather, she was feeling so hot that she was sure she needed a cold bath.
Sunnie got out of bed and wiped off the sweat that had clustered around her. She was indeed sweating like a pig.
She walked out of the cave as the chilling atmosphere graced her body. It wasn’t hot outside; the weather was cool. But she was still feeling hot and sweating.
"What the hell..." Sunnie muttered, wiping off her sweat. The only thing she knew she was craving at the moment was water—a cool place to take her bath.
"Sister Sunnie, why are you looking like you were boiled for chicken soup?" Little Black asked as he approached.
Everyone was busy putting the finishing touches on the house. They brought leaves and animal skins to make spots for sleeping and all.
They all stopped and turned as soon as Little Black spoke. And they couldn’t help but notice.
Azure approached and ran his hands over her forehead. "Your body is hot too..."
"The weather isn’t hot at all, though..." Eris looked around. "Why is she looking like she came out of a pot?"
Sunnie didn’t even have time to cast him a murderous glare. She was feeling extremely hot and sweating profusely that her loincloths were drenched in sweat.
She ran a hand through her neck. All she could think about was dipping herself into water for hours or something.
Everyone stared at her, confused and with pity.
Elza looked up with Mii in her hands. "It’s the side effects," she explained.
Shocked, everyone turned and stared at her. They couldn’t believe that she actually did speak.
Sunnie didn’t bother. She inhaled and heard the system beep.
