Chapter 76: Husband Danger.
It was dark outside, but the moon illuminated the place enough for Karl to see where he was going.
He made his way to the pot where the meal was properly reserved.
Karl hesitated. He thought about his actions of wanting to steal some meat to survive and said to himself, "No... I can’t do this... what will happen to my pride...? I can’t give up like this... It’s embarrassing..." He shook his head as he turned to go back.
But his stomach groaned loud enough for him to know that he needed to eat or he’d die in the next few minutes.
He turned and threw away his pride, walking to the pot. He opened it, and the aroma filled his nostrils in all special ways.
He felt like he was in heaven from smelling it alone. Thousands of flavors danced around his nose as he closed his eyes to feel them. And then with a lingering smile, he licked his lips as he stretched out his hands to take meat from the pot.
But a stick slapped his hands away as he stepped backwards.
Shocked, he looked up alert as his wings popped out to attack. But all he saw was Sunnie. Standing opposite him with a stick in her hands, Sunnie raised an eyebrow at him with a smile. "It’s so late now... why are you still awake...? And what are you doing...?"
Karl immediately frowned as he took down his wings. "Nothing. I’m doing nothing. I’m just taking a night stroll and looking around... nothing."
He was awkward as Sunnie smiled. "Is that so? So you’re not here to steal my precious meat?"
Karl scoffed, folding his arms. "And why would I even do that? I’m not that shameless."
Sunnie nodded with a smile. "Okay then... sure." She tilted her head, staring at him. "But you look so weak and wretched. Are you sure you won’t have a meal? Maybe you can repay me by working hard tomorrow. I promise I’ll give you a big portion."
"Never!" He snapped. "I’ll never bow to you."
Sunnie blinked. "I’m not even asking you to, though..."
"Whatever. I’m not doing anything you want. There is certainly food outside, so I’ll go and find it myself," he said as he turned and walked off into the woods.
Sunnie stood there, watching him leave, worried. She shook her head as she thought, "Why is he being so stubborn? Sigh... I just hope he’ll be alright... I would have still given him the meal, though... he looked so down."
Sunnie sighed as she shook her head. She turned and made her way back into the cave.
---
Sunnie didn’t sleep too soundly that night. Her pregnancy and the meat bonus gave her random feelings and experiences.
One night, she would sleep so well and wake up feeling like a baby. And the next, she’d find it extremely hard to sleep and wake up a mess.
This was one of those times. She couldn’t bring herself to sleep well that night. She slept some minutes in between and then woke up.
When she opened her eyes the next time, it was already morning, and she found herself staring up at the cave. Everyone had already gone out to work.
They were already done clearing the portion around them that they needed—a mark of marking the land as their territory now. And now they were taking their time to craft the sticks they’d use to erect the house and the leaves they’d use as covers. Their building would soon be done.
They were probably doing that that morning when Sunnie woke up. The system soon beeped.
[Ding!]
[Danger Alert!]
[The Eagle Husband is in danger! He has consumed a poisonous substance and is now in danger of death!]
[System Task]
[Save the beast husband to avoid losing him!]
[Duration: 30 Minutes!]
[Reward: +2,000 coins!]
Sunnie instantly sat up from where she lay. She didn’t even wait for the system to conclude everything and disappear.
"What the hell...?" She panicked as she got up to her feet. "I had a feeling he’d get into trouble..."
Sunnie soon rushed out of the cave as everyone turned and stared at her. They could see the panic on her face.
"What’s wrong?" Zuna asked as she got up to her feet with Zukka.
Azure approached her. "Why do you look so worked up? What happened?"
Sunnie let out a deep breath before she said, "I have to leave now to save him... to save Karl."
They were confused.
"Why are you saving him? What happened to him?" Luka inquired.
"He’s in danger," she simply said as they all stared at each other.
They didn’t question her further.
Azure simply said, "Just tell us what happened. We’ll go and save him. You should stay behind and rest..." He stared at her stomach. "It’s not safe for you and the baby."
Sunnie shook her head. "Don’t worry. I need to go too. It’s an emergency that I need to be there for." The time was ticking. Thirty minutes wasn’t much to find him and then find a way to save him from critical danger.
Because if she didn’t, then he might end up dead in thirty minutes. So she had to be there to save him from danger, at least.
Azure didn’t question further either. He simply nodded as he said, "Then be careful..."
She nodded.
The others stayed behind as Sunnie and her four beast husbands left to go and find and save Karl.
---
They were moving through the woods. Running, but Sunnie felt like they’d be late. Five minutes had already gone by while they were following the map the system provided.
She felt they wouldn’t get anywhere fast at this point.
And just when she was thinking of what to do, the wolf came out of the woods, staring at them from a distance.
Sunnie smiled at the wolf as she waved at it. "Hey! Mind giving me a lift?"
The wolf raised its ears as it stared at Sunnie. Sunnie took that as a "Yes."
