Chapter 176: Plan Executed. At what cost?
Sunnie had been unconscious for three days now, sleeping in the cave while the women helped clean her body and kept her healthy during her pregnancy. They had studied her body during her last pregnancy, so they assured her husbands that she was okay.
Luka was especially worried. He was having a hard time sleeping, always wanting to see Sunnie and asking when she would wake up.
Elza casually smiled and teased, "Do you want to go unconscious with her? Keep this up, and you’ll go unconscious as well."
Maren had been trying to see her mother for a while now, but Azure always tried to keep her busy. It became a lot of work keeping a little cub away from her mother.
He would play with her constantly to keep her occupied, even when he was exhausted. While he would be sleeping at night, the kid would pull him out of bed early in the morning to play.
He couldn’t refuse—that would mean Maren crying and waking everyone up. So he forced himself to get up and follow her out to play. He couldn’t help but pray for Sunnie to wake up.
They continued going to the farm in the meantime to check on it while the beast women took care of Sunnie.
The chipmunks were impressed that within such a short time, they could see great improvement in the crops. A good number of them had already begun sprouting in perfect condition.
"Whoa, how is this even possible? It shouldn’t be this fast, but it’s already developing so well. I can’t seem to detect any issues at all," the leader expressed with a broad smile.
"I think it’s because of the special fertilizer she added to the land. That’s certainly the reason it’s developing so fast and so well," the chubby chipmunk said with a smile.
The leader was the most impressed. He couldn’t believe such a rare gem existed in farming. He had known most things about farmland and believed he was a pro, but he had never encountered this before. Now he was simply intrigued to learn more.
They continued taking care of the farm, which was already developing, while keeping an eye on its quick and healthy improvement. The chipmunks could easily conclude that the harvest would come faster than they thought.
---
One day, as the beast husbands were returning from the farmland alone, Azure decided to bring up an issue.
"I think we should get back at the hyena tribe at this moment," he said, staring at the others.
They looked at him, confused. "Huh? Why suddenly?" Luka inquired.
"I’ve been thinking about it for a while. Ever since they picked on my child and attacked our land with the intention of making us starve to death, I never intended to let them have peace."
Eris slowly nodded too. "Me too."
"But I knew Sunnie wouldn’t be happy with it, which is why I never mentioned it. Now that she’s unconscious, I think we could use this opportunity to get back at them." He explained, staring at them. "I’d like to seek your assistance in getting back at those jerks who tried to mess with my little one."
Karl smiled, arms folded. "You don’t have to formally tell us. This is what we do after all, isn’t it?"
"Besides," Karl scoffed, "I think we’ve lost the other side of you after you became a father. Now I guess that isn’t the case."
Eris folded his arms as he said, "So what do you think we should do?"
Azure folded his arms in thought for a while. "Sunnie doesn’t like using such harm on them anymore..."
Karl frowned, raising his eyebrows. "Does that matter? I thought we were getting back at them?"
Azure shook his head. "Since she’s against it, I think we shouldn’t harm them. At least not extremely."
Luka nodded. "I agree."
Zayn and Karl sighed, shaking their heads as Karl said, "I really have lost you two to fatherhood, then." Karl stared at Eris. "Maybe you’re next."
Azure continued, "Instead, I have a better plan if you care to listen."
"And what is it?" Eris inquired.
Azure explained, "It’s basically giving them back what they gave us." He said with a smile.
---
That night, Sunnie’s five beast husbands set off down the forest, making their way to the hyena tribe.
That very night, After the hyenas had retired for the night, the husbands made their way into the tribe and began executing their plan.
Azure did most of the planning and execution. He moved through their farmland, poisoning the crops with his venom to ensure their plants died or didn’t grow well at all.
He moved from one space to another, a corner to another, until he had reached all the tribe’s farmland and crop space. Every crop they had planted had been affected and wouldn’t last long before dying.
In the process, the other beast husbands also took some crops and edibles from their land and made off with them. They took everything they would need to feed themselves for the coming days while they waited for their own harvest.
They did all this without anyone knowing. When they were done, they made their way back without anyone noticing, leaving as quietly as they had come, as if nothing had happened at all.
And so the peaceful night proceeded as soon as the beast husbands were done and gone.
---
Sunnie found her vision a bit fuzzy when she slowly opened her eyes. She stared into the distance as her vision gradually came into focus.
She had a mild headache, but it wasn’t enough to cause her pain. She slowly sat up from where she lay. No one was in the room. She was alone—until her system arrived with bad news.
