Chapter 117: Outcome.
Sunnie visited the farm the next day with Little Black and Zuna. They observed the land without noticing anything significant happening. It was still the same as yesterday.
"It’s still early to see progress, I guess," Little Black insisted. And so they simply watered the land and left.
A few days went by, and they were seriously running out of meals to consume from their storerooms.
Sunnie had supported the meals with what she could get from her system, and she had spent a great deal of coins on them.
Sunnie barely had 10,000 coins left. She had lost a great deal of them in just a few days. Who knew using this system as a source of meals was such an expensive choice?
Sunnie was filled with thoughts at the moment. Within these few days, they had gone to the land and noticed nothing at all.
There were no significant changes. None of the plants planted were growing at all, even though it was already time for them to at least sprout. But nothing was happening. It was just the way it was.
"Something is supposed to be happening, though... why is nothing growing?" Zuna asked, confused.
"What if it takes some time because of the land?" Zukka suggested.
But Karl scoffed. "I told you none of this would work. It’s a terrible land. Did we expect some miracle or something? No miracle has happened with this land for ages. Just give up so we can head to the hyena tribe and deal with them."
But Sunnie said, "We won’t be doing any of that. Let’s wait for some time." She insisted.
And they did wait for a few more days. And still, nothing. They were all worried and disappointed at the moment. They were running out of means to get ingredients for a proper meal, so they were managing what they ate.
Sunnie was also running out of coins from supporting them. And still, the land didn’t produce anything at all. It was as if it had eaten up the crops they had put in it.
Then Sunnie decided to run an analysis the next time they arrived at the land. She ran her hands through the soil, meticulously letting the system analyze the area.
And the system’s response was easy to grasp.
[Ding!]
[Farming Task status: Failure]
[Cause: Poor land]
[The host picked poor land for farming. As a result, everything fell flat.]
[Crops won’t grow and have rather died inside the ground.]
".....!"
Sunnie gasped in shock. She could feel her legs shaking from the shock of it all. She had literally wasted her time and resources.
Here she was thinking something would happen after all that effort, when she had already failed from the beginning.
Even after purchasing crops to plant with a huge sum of heart coins, nothing happened. Rather, she had lost it all to the evil land. She felt like crying at the moment.
Sunnie slowly got up to her feet while staring at the land. She didn’t know how to feel, but she knew she felt disappointed, and she also felt like a disappointment to everyone who had trusted her. She felt like a failure in that moment while she stared at the land.
"So? What’s wrong? Did you discover anything?" Azure inquired, curious.
Sunnie was quiet for a while before she finally said, "I’m sorry."
They were confused. "Huh? Why are you apologizing? What happened?"
Sunnie said, "It was useless. The land wasn’t good. The soil killed the fruits. Nothing is happening." She sounded and felt disappointed and guilty.
There was a long silence as everyone stared at her.
"I’m sorry for wasting your time," Sunnie expressed with a sad, embarrassed, and disappointed look as she turned and walked away without saying anything else.
Everyone stood there quietly as they watched her leave.
Then Karl said, "I said it. It wouldn’t work... now it’s a waste of time."
But Azure cast him a cold glare. "Shut up."
"What? What did I say wrong?"
Eris sighed. "She at least tried her best to help everyone, so at least you should be nicer."
Luka nodded. "Yeah. She only meant well. So you shouldn’t make it sound like that." He said as he, Azure, and Eris walked off.
Little Black cast Karl a cold glare. "Evil bird." He said as he ran off to catch up with Sunnie. Zuna and Zukka followed behind.
Karl watched them leave with shock on his face. "What? What did I do wrong?" He turned to stare at Zayn. "What? Why is everyone making me look like the bad guy now?"
But Zayn only stared at him as he said, "You are." He turned and walked off.
"...." Karl blinked with a scoff. "What? I know you can never back me up." He rolled his eyes, folding his arms. "How annoying. Now I’m the bad guy for stating the truth? They’re turning against me? Whatever! Like I care." He scoffed as he turned and followed them behind.
---
Sunnie looked down and disappointed. When she returned, the women who were working noticed. They stared at her face and then at each other, wondering what had happened at the farm.
They could already tell that it wasn’t good news at all. So none of them asked her about anything when she arrived home.
Little Maren quickly rushed toward her mum as soon as she saw her return. Maren had grown a little; she could now walk. Her blue hair had gotten longer, reaching her bottom, and it had become even prettier and more shimmering. Little Maren wore a pretty blue loincloth around her body that covered her up.
She had a bright smile on her face as she ran up to her mum, giggling while showing her something she had made—a bunch of leaves fashioned into a fan.
"Mama! Mama! Mama!" she called while she grabbed onto Sunnie’s legs, staring up at her while showing Sunnie her invention. "Mama! Mama! Look! Look!" The smart Maren had picked up some words easily, even at a young age.
