Chapter 204 - 136: Let’s See How Many Surprises You’ve Got
She found a sofa with a view of the hotel entrance and sat down.
She had originally planned to head back to her university, but now she’d had a change of heart.
She would wait here for Chen Mo, and when he arrived, she’d go over and strike up a conversation.
"Excuse me, beautiful. Mind if I get to know you?"
Just then, a man in his thirties, dressed in a sharp suit, approached her from across the lounge area. He stared at her, utterly captivated, and couldn’t resist trying to chat her up.
"I’m sorry, I have a boyfriend."
She glanced at him and refused in a soft, pleasant voice.
"My apologies, my apologies. Sorry to bother you."
A flicker of disappointment crossed the man’s eyes. After apologizing, he went back to his seat.
But even after being rejected, he couldn’t stop his gaze from drifting back toward her. He was utterly captivated.
He couldn’t help it; she was just breathtakingly beautiful.
Besides, her classical, artistic temperament was simply alluring.
...
After returning home, Chen Mo started playing games with Wei Luyao.
They had barely played or even seen each other for the past few days.
She had been busy with interviews for an internship.
"How did the interviews go?"
Chen Mo asked, concerned.
"My professor recommended a law firm, and I think the interview went pretty well."
Wei Luyao told Chen Mo about her interview in a relaxed tone.
"Why the sudden decision to get an internship? I thought you were planning to wait until next semester."
Chen Mo asked curiously.
"My living expenses were enough before, but not anymore. I need to earn some money."
Wei Luyao explained her sudden decision to get an internship quite frankly.
When it was just her, her monthly allowance was just enough to get by in Modu.
But now that she was in that getting-serious stage with Chen Mo and they would soon be dating, she’d definitely want to buy him gifts, treat him to meals, and so on.
All of that costs money.
She wasn’t the type to just take from a partner without giving anything in return.
But giving back cost money, so her only option was to start her internship early and earn some.
She had to complete a one-year internship at a law firm.
Only after receiving a satisfactory internship appraisal and a certificate of completion could she apply for her license to practice law and officially become a lawyer.
There was no salary during the internship, but the law firm would provide a living stipend for its interns.
Her professor had recommended a boutique firm in Modu, and their stipend was as high as 6,000 yuan a month.
She’d heard that "Red Circle" firms offered stipends of 8,000 yuan a month, but getting into one with her academic background would be a stretch.
This 6,000 yuan was nothing compared to the money Chen Mo spent on her, of course.
But at least now she could give something back to Chen Mo.
"That’s great. Keep it up."
Hearing this, Chen Mo instantly understood her line of thinking. He smiled and offered a word of encouragement.
He really liked Wei Luyao’s perspective on love and money.
’She gets into a relationship and immediately thinks about how to spend money on him. And if she doesn’t have money, she goes out and earns it.’
’She might not earn a lot, but it would be enough to treat him to dinner or buy him a gift.’
’She could maintain a sense of give-and-take with him.’
"As long as you support me, that’s all that matters. I was worried you’d think I won’t have time to hang out with you anymore."
Hearing Chen Mo’s support, Wei Luyao’s mood instantly brightened, and she felt a sense of relief.
"I can’t get in the way of you making money, can I? What if you become a partner at a Red Circle firm someday? I’ll be waiting to live off you then."
Chen Mo chuckled, teasing her.
"Hahahaha! Well, in that case, I’d better work hard so you can live off me!"
Wei Luyao burst out laughing happily.
Her roommates, who were nearby, overheard her conversation with Chen Mo, and their eyes filled with envy.
They were envious that Wei Luyao was dating a guy who drove a supercar, but they were even more envious that she’d passed the bar exam on her first attempt!
Passing the bar exam meant you could do the official internship required to be a practicing lawyer.
They could still get internships without passing, but those would just be ordinary ones, not counting toward the mandatory one-year internship period.
In other words, even if they did an internship now, they’d still have to complete another full year later on.
Fall behind once, and you’ll always be a step behind.
After playing for a little while longer, Chen Mo checked the time. It was almost the end of the workday.
"I’ve got something on tonight, so I’m logging off."
He exited the game client and told her over the voice channel.
"Okay, I’m going to head to the cafeteria for dinner then."
Wei Luyao logged off as well and left for the cafeteria with her roommates.
He shut down his computer and grabbed his car keys.
He went downstairs, got in his car, and drove toward the Carlton.
This time, he didn’t park in front of the hotel, instead driving straight into the underground garage.
Previously, he’d just been getting a room and leaving, so he only parked for a short time.
This time he was staying the night, so it was better to park in the garage.
After parking, he took an elevator straight from the garage to the 51st floor of the hotel.
’Everything’s easier the second time around.’
He entered the presidential suite again. It was the same room with a view of the Bund.
’Looks like I’ll be enjoying the night view from the window again tonight.’
Chen Mo stood before the massive floor-to-ceiling window, the corners of his lips twitching into a slight smile.
DING!
His phone suddenly chimed. He pulled it from his pocket and saw a message from Pan Kejia.
"I’m off work. Just going home to change, then I’ll be right over."
"OK."
Chen Mo smiled as he read her message and typed back a reply.
’So thoughtful,’ he mused. ’She’s even going home to change before coming to see me.’
He lay back on the sofa and started scrolling through short-form videos.
Meanwhile, in the lounge area of the Carlton Hotel lobby, Shen Qingying was still sitting there, fiddling with her phone.
Every time someone walked through the main entrance, she would lift her head to look.
When she saw it wasn’t Chen Mo, her attention would drift back to her phone.
She was still waiting for Chen Mo, little did she know he had already taken the elevator up to the 51st floor from the garage long ago.
She was destined to wait in vain today.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
A little over half an hour later, Chen Mo heard a knock at the door.
He walked to the door and glanced through the peephole. Seeing it was Pan Kejia, he opened it.
