Chapter 45: Brooke York Said It Herself
"Chloe, are you okay?" At the classroom door, she ran into Evan Shaw, who had a worried look on his face.
"I’m fine! What are you worried about?" Chloe York was confused. Why was he suddenly asking if she was okay out of the blue?
Seeing that Chloe York seemed completely unfazed, Evan Shaw guessed she probably hadn’t seen last night’s post on the confession wall.
"I was just thinking about how you saved that person, and someone almost took the credit. I was worried about you." Evan Shaw reacted quickly, bringing up the rescue incident.
"Oh, that? I’m fine!"
"Alright, I’ll get going then."
"Okay!"
Evan Shaw walked a few steps away, then turned back to see Chloe York enter the classroom. He let out a sigh of relief. He had seen the confession wall post last night and knew that the person who posted it was the same one who had previously accused her of juggling three relationships.
And he had also guessed that this whole affair was undoubtedly connected to Brooke York.
"Mr. Prescott, what brings you here?" Seeing Ethan Prescott, Jordan Walton panicked for a moment. ’He’s not here for the surveillance footage now, is he? I haven’t even told the Yorks yet!’
He had already retrieved the video footage. It was just that before sending it to Ethan Prescott, he considered that Brooke York was, after all, the York family’s true-born daughter. On top of that, their families had a marriage contract. If Ethan Prescott saw the video and discovered his fiancée had done something so morally corrupt, what kind of impact would that have?
So, he had planned to speak with the York family first and get their approval before handing it over. But he never expected Ethan Prescott to show up in person right now.
"Give me the surveillance footage now!" Ethan Prescott didn’t beat around the bush, stating his purpose directly.
’So it really is about that,’ Jordan Walton’s heart skipped a beat.
"What, you’re not willing?" Seeing Jordan Walton just standing there with no intention of showing him the footage, Ethan narrowed his eyes. A suspicious gaze fell upon the principal. ’Could this man know the mastermind behind this? And could their relationship be more than casual?’
"Mr. Prescott, this matter..."
"If you have something to say, just say it."
’After thinking it over, I really can’t afford to offend the Prescott family. Besides, what if he really likes Brooke York? Maybe he won’t even care about this!’
"It’s nothing. I’ll send you the footage." Jordan Walton walked over to his computer and started to work.
Meanwhile, Miles York had followed Chloe York to her classroom.
"Brooke, go get Chloe!" Seeing that there were still students inside, he knew that anything said in the classroom would inevitably lead to the news of Chloe not living with the Yorks getting out.
Brooke York had hoped Miles York would go in himself so he could hear what the classmates were saying, but unexpectedly, he didn’t. "Alright! Dad, after you finish talking with Chloe, you can also chat with our homeroom teacher. Chloe doesn’t have a very good relationship with her. If you put in a few good words, maybe Chloe’s grades will improve."
’I can’t let such a good opportunity slip by. The homeroom teacher definitely knows about the sugar daddy situation, so having the teacher bring it up to Miles York would also work.’
"Alright, I understand. Brooke, you’re so sensible! Dad knows in his heart that you are my true biological daughter." Miles York patted Brooke York’s shoulder.
"Then, Dad, I’ll go in and get Chloe!"
Miles York nodded, watching Brooke York enter the classroom to get Chloe York.
Brooke York walked into the classroom and up to Chloe York’s desk. "Chloe, Dad is here to see you. Whatever it is, just talk it out with him. I’m sure he won’t blame you."
Lifting her gaze, Chloe saw Brooke York standing before her desk. Though there was no smile on her face, Chloe could see the corners of her mouth twitching, struggling to suppress a smirk. Looking out the window, she indeed saw Miles York standing there. When he saw her looking, he offered a smile.
She stood up and walked outside.
The commotion between the two, along with Miles York in the hallway, drew the attention of their classmates. As soon as Chloe left, they immediately started asking Brooke York about the situation.
"Brooke, why is your dad here? What happened with Chloe York?"
"I can’t say. My dad is pretty angry right now. After all, the sugar daddy she found is about the same age as my dad. I’m really worried about her... I don’t know why she’s fallen so low." Brooke York feigned distress, letting the words slip out. After speaking, she quickly covered her mouth as if she shouldn’t have said it.
Meeting the gazes of her classmates, Brooke York added, "Please pretend you didn’t hear me say that. If Chloe finds out I said this, she will definitely get angry with me."
Hearing Brooke York just come out and say it, Clara Bell couldn’t help but give her a mental thumbs-up. The post she had put up last night had been deleted.
She hadn’t expected Brooke York to just say it outright today. It seemed the rumors about Chloe York having a sugar daddy were actually true.
The oblivious Brooke York thought to herself, ’Someone will definitely say, "If Chloe York is willing to do it, she shouldn’t be afraid of people talking about it!"’
"Brooke, is it true? Did Chloe York really find a sugar daddy?"
"How could that be? She even saved someone’s life. She doesn’t seem like the type to do something like this!"
"Oh my god, she’s so young! Could there be some kind of misunderstanding?"
"Brooke, did you guys only find out because the sugar daddy showed up at your door?"
"She saved someone’s life, she should be a model youth. I don’t believe she’d have a sugar daddy. Brooke, you guys must have misunderstood."
Based on the classmates’ reactions, Brooke York felt like something was off. Why did they act like they didn’t know anything?
"Brooke York, you talk so much trash, I’m starting to think you shit out of your mouth. You’re constantly spewing crap, aren’t you afraid of stinking up the place?" Stella Winters stood up and directly confronted her.
She had never met such a dramatic person. And this was supposed to be the York family’s true-born daughter? ’What petty, classless behavior. All she knows are these cheap little tricks.’
"Stella, how could you say that about me! I didn’t mean to say it. Besides, don’t you all know about it already?"
"What do we know? You tell us. What is it that we supposedly know?" Stella Winters retorted, her tone sharp and aggressive.
"Yeah, Brooke, how would we know about this?"
"Brooke, we don’t understand what you’re talking about."
"I... I found out from the confession wall too! Haven’t you guys seen the confession wall?"
"The confession wall? Was there a post about this? How come I didn’t see it?"
"Me neither!"
The students all pulled out their phones to check. Seeing this, Brooke York’s first instinct was to look at Clara Bell. But when she saw Clara also pulling out her phone to look, Brooke felt that something was even more wrong.
Brooke York hurriedly pulled out her own phone, but before she could even open the confession wall page, she heard the other students’ voices.
"It’s not on the confession wall!"
"Yeah, I don’t see it. The old post about Chloe York juggling three relationships is gone too!"
"Heh, how amusing. Some people just make things up out of thin air to ruin a person’s reputation. No wonder a supposed phoenix ended up being a common chicken. Guess she was just returning to her rightful coop."
Brooke York’s face flushed red then pale. Now she truly agreed with what Clara Bell had said—Stella Winters’s mouth was indeed lethally sharp.
"Hasn’t anyone noticed that issues regarding student Chloe York’s private life have been popping up a bit too frequently lately?" Henry Ford suddenly spoke up.
