Chapter 75: The Homeroom Teacher Sells Out Brooke York
This couldn’t be allowed to escalate any further. He had a feeling that if it did, things would spiral in a direction he couldn’t possibly control.
"Fine. Since this is what you want to do, I won’t object. I’ll have the teachers and students gather on the athletic field!" Jordan Walton agreed.
The homeroom teacher nodded and left the principal’s office.
At the end of the third period, the principal’s voice came over the broadcast system, reaching every classroom.
"All teachers and students, please assemble on the main athletic field!!!"
"All teachers and students, please assemble on the main athletic field!!!"
"All teachers and students, please assemble on the main athletic field!!!"
The announcement sent a stir through the student body. "Why are they suddenly making us gather on the athletic field? And they’re even including all the teachers this time."
"I don’t know! Didn’t we already have our morning run? It’s after third period now!"
"Seriously!"
Although the students were confused and reluctant to go to the athletic field, they started heading there anyway.
"This is so weird. Why are we suddenly going to the athletic field again? If they just had an announcement, couldn’t they have used the broadcast system?" Stella Winters was also not thrilled about going. ’With all this time, it would be so much better to just sit in the classroom and eat snacks!’
"Probably. We’ll be back in a little while anyway."
"That’s true!"
"Brooke, do you know what this is about?" Clara Bell asked Brooke York.
Brooke York snapped impatiently, "How should I know!"
’I’ve got a million things to worry about right now. How am I supposed to know what crazy idea the principal has gotten into his head, suddenly making everyone gather on the athletic field again.’
’The last thing I want to do right now is go to the athletic field. Every time we go there, it only seems to be good news for Chloe York.’
When she got to the athletic field and saw the homeroom teacher was there too, Brooke York had a premonition. ’This is probably going to be the teacher’s public apology!’
’Is he really going to apologize to Chloe York?’
’I thought this homeroom teacher would be of some use, but it turns out he’s the most useless of all.’
Seeing the homeroom teacher standing on the stage, the students already had their guesses.
"Isn’t that the homeroom teacher for Class 3-6?"
"It’s him. Why is he on stage? Is he going to apologize?"
"Whoa, looks like we’re in for a good show."
"Clara, the homeroom teacher is up there! He’s not really going to apologize to Chloe York, is he?"
"You think I couldn’t see that for myself?!"
Having been snapped at by Brooke York twice in a row, Clara Bell’s expression soured. ’She’s the one who messed up. Why is she taking it out on me!’
Brooke realized her tone had been too harsh both times. Now that the homeroom teacher was unreliable, she still needed Clara Bell to be her cat’s-paw.
Brooke York softened her tone. "Clara, don’t be mad at me. I just couldn’t control my temper for a moment. I’m sorry!"
"It’s okay. I understand. I’m not mad!"
"Mhm!"
’Not mad? How could I not be mad?’ Of course, Clara Bell knew exactly why Brooke York would suddenly apologize to her. She just wanted to keep using her to do her dirty work.
"Are there any classes or teachers who haven’t arrived yet? Please check with the students and teachers next to you." After speaking, Jordan Walton scanned the entire field.
No one spoke. That meant everyone was present.
"I’ve gathered everyone on the athletic field at this time for one reason. It concerns an incident that happened two weeks ago: the bet between the homeroom teacher of Class 3-6 and student Chloe York."
As soon as he said this, a murmur arose from the students below.
"Students, please don’t start talking and discussing just yet. I’m not finished!"
The students quieted down and looked at Jordan Walton on the stage, their hearts filled with anticipation to see if there would be an apology.
"In life, making bets is not a good habit. Because nothing is ever one hundred percent certain, this behavior is not much different from that of a gambler. I hope that from now on, we won’t see this kind of betting behavior in our school again."
"Next, the homeroom teacher of Class 3-6, Mr. Hale, has something to say." Jordan Walton handed the microphone to the homeroom teacher.
The homeroom teacher took the microphone. He could feel that the moment he took it, all eyes—whether they belonged to teachers or students—were on him. "Fellow students, colleagues, Principal, and deans, I am here today to formally apologize to student Chloe York!"
"As a teacher, I failed to trust my own student. When she wanted to improve, I suppressed and belittled her. I am truly unworthy of the title of ’teacher,’ unworthy of this role, and I have especially failed Chloe York."
"So, here and now, I want to formally say to student Chloe York: I’m sorry. I am so sorry, Chloe York. I hope you can forgive me!"
After the homeroom teacher finished, the students began to put their heads together and whisper amongst themselves.
"This is so satisfying. I never thought I’d actually get to see a scene like this."
"Chloe York is incredible. To win the bet, she went from one point on the first mock exam to eighty-six on the second. And she even made a teacher apologize. She’s my role model from now on!"
"I heard this teacher really likes students with good grades and looks down on those who do poorly. He’s always so passive-aggressive."
The principal took the microphone back from the homeroom teacher and began to speak.
"Today, the homeroom teacher of Class 3-6 has fulfilled his promise. Moreover, as all of you can see, hard work pays off."
"Even if you score just one point on the first mock exam, you can still create a miracle, make a stunning comeback on the second, and amaze everyone."
After Jordan Walton finished speaking, the students applauded enthusiastically. Once the applause died down, he was about to instruct the homeroom teachers to lead their classes back to their classrooms.
"I’m not finished!" The homeroom teacher’s sudden declaration silenced the entire field and made Jordan Walton’s heart leap into his throat.
’He still has more to say? What else could he possibly have to say?’
Down in the crowd, Brooke York inexplicably grew nervous. For some reason, she felt that whatever the homeroom teacher was about to say next would definitely not be good news for her.
"The reason I was so suspicious that Chloe York cheated with the principal’s help was because Brooke York told me so. It was only after she told me that I became convinced Chloe had cheated. But now, it’s clear to me that Chloe York did not cheat."
Down below, Brooke York’s face went deathly pale, and her resentment toward the homeroom teacher surged to its absolute peak.
The entire school was in shock. They had heard the rumors today but weren’t sure if they were true. They never expected the homeroom teacher of Class 3-6 to say it again, and in front of the whole school. It looked like it was real after all.
Many students had been secretly recording the whole thing on their phones from the very beginning, capturing the entire process on video.
Jordan Walton hurriedly snatched the microphone from the homeroom teacher’s hand. "This is a matter we can resolve privately! Homeroom teachers, lead your students back to your classrooms!"
Back in the classroom, the class was unusually quiet. It seemed they would be getting a new homeroom teacher.
Brooke York hid her face behind a book as if that could help her escape the truth. Little did she know, the video of the homeroom teacher’s apology was already being shared wildly online.
And the specific sentence the homeroom teacher had said was captured in its entirety.
