"Hmph, whatever. They want me, not her! It doesn’t matter if you disagree."

"I never said I disagreed!" Arthur Prescott put a hand to his forehead. ’What am I supposed to do when my wife always treats me like the bad guy?’

"Mom, why did you come to pick me up?" Brooke York asked in shock as she got in the car and saw Alice Cole was also there.

"Your Mr. Prescott and Miss Prescott are back. I’m taking you to the Prescott Family’s home to meet them, and we’ll also get the marriage contract switched over!"

Hearing the Prescotts were back, Brooke York’s heart filled with joy. Soon, she would be the Young Madam of the Prescott Family.

"Okay, okay!"

"Let’s get you properly dressed up first. You can’t go in that school uniform. Mom will take you to buy something new."

"Okay!"

The car started and drove away. A moment later, Chloe York walked out of the school.

"Chloe, I get to come over to your place today! And I can even stay the night. My parents are both away on business, so I’m all alone at home." The excitement in Stella Winters’s voice was obvious.

It wasn’t just Stella Winters who was happy; Chloe York was quite happy too. Because she was such an overachiever, her friendships had always been temporary. She had even fewer friends after she started working. So now, she really cherished her friendship with Stella Winters and loved doing the kinds of things only friends do together.

"Then let’s go get something good to eat first, buy some snacks, and then head to my place!" Chloe York suggested to Stella Winters.

Stella Winters nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! Absolutely!"

Alice Cole took Brooke York to buy several of the latest style dresses, each costing several thousand, and paid with a credit card without hesitation.

She also took her to get her hair done. Now, Brooke York looked just like a pampered heiress, raised in wealth since birth.

She wore a sky-blue dress, her slightly curled hair tied up in a high ponytail. She looked youthful and vibrant, with an air of elegance and nobility.

Looking at the transformed Brooke York, Alice Cole’s eyes filled with pleased admiration. "My daughter looks this beautiful with just a little effort! If she wore a formal gown and had a professional makeup artist, wouldn’t she look just like a princess!"

"Mom, don’t praise me like that, you’ll make me conceited!" Brooke York said shyly upon hearing Alice Cole’s words.

But she couldn’t help but glance at her reflection in the mirror. The girl in the mirror, with her every frown and smile, her every move, truly did resemble a noble heiress.

This was the kind of life she was meant to live, not the one back in the village, wearing patched, shabby clothes, with dry hair and a perpetually grimy appearance.

"Let’s go. We’re going to the Prescott Family’s home. Let them get a good look. This is what Alice Cole’s daughter is really like—not only beautiful but also a good student!"

Alice Cole had always known that Sophia Quinn looked down on her, and she believed it was because she had a disgraceful daughter who, aside from a pretty face, was utterly useless.

Scoring a zero on every test, dumb as a pig. That’s why Sophia Quinn didn’t want a daughter-in-law like that and, by extension, disliked her, always acting high and mighty whenever they met.

This time, she had to take Brooke York to redeem herself and make a good showing, to let Sophia Quinn see what her daughter, Alice Cole’s daughter, was really like.

Brooke York nodded and, full of anticipation, got in the car with Alice Cole, heading for the Prescott Family’s home.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t nervous. She was about to meet a true patriarch and matriarch of a wealthy family. If she married into the Prescott Family, she would officially enter the world of the rich and noble.

After eating and drinking their fill with Stella Winters and buying a bunch more snacks, the two of them returned to the rental apartment.

The first thing Stella Winters did was size up Chloe York’s place. It no longer looked like it did when she had just moved in; it now had a complete, chic, elegant style.

"Wow, Chloe, I love your apartment!" Stella Winters plopped down on the soft sofa and immediately lay all the way back.

From her spot, she had a perfect view of the small floral-print curtains fluttering by the windowsill and the green trees outside.

’Living in a place like this would really lift your spirits and brighten your mood.’

Chloe York dumped all the snacks onto the table, instantly covering the entire surface.

Hearing Stella Winters’s words, she replied with a smile, "If you like it, you should come stay more often! There’s a room for you here. I’ve already tidied it up. Your room even has a small balcony outside the window. I planted some flowers for you. Go take a look!"

"Really?"

"Really. My room has a tree outside the window, so I planted flowers for you."

Stella Winters immediately shot up from the sofa and went to her room. Sure enough, there was a neatly made bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and a small balcony. The balcony was filled with blooming bougainvillea.

"I love this room!"

"I’m glad you like it!"

"I’m going to see your room."

Chloe York’s room also had a balcony, though there was nothing on it. However, a large tree stood just outside, so when you lay in bed, you could see the leaves rustling. One could only imagine how secure and atmospheric it would be to be tucked away in here during a heavy, gloomy downpour.

After driving for over an hour, the car stopped at a manor halfway up a mountain. Brooke York’s eyes lit up at the sight of it.

Alice Cole, however, wasn’t surprised. She already knew the Prescott Family lived in a manor.

After all, in just two or three years, her daughter would marry into the Prescott Family. Then, she’d be able to visit often, and maybe even move in. So she wouldn’t cheapen herself by looking like some country bumpkin who’d never seen anything.

"Hello, how can I help you?"

The car was stopped at the manor gate, and a guard came over to inquire.

"Hello, we’re from the York Family. Mrs. York is here to visit Mrs. Prescott!" the driver answered on Alice Cole’s behalf.

"Do you have an appointment?"

"I am Alice Cole, the madam of the York Family. I don’t need an appointment. Open the gate!" After stating her identity, Alice Cole didn’t want to waste any more words on the guard. In her eyes, he was just a watchdog, and she had no desire to speak with such a low-class person.

Besides, she would soon be a mistress of this manor herself. There was even less reason to talk to these guards and lower her own status.

"Do you have an appointment?" the guard repeated. Without an appointment, and with no notice from their master and madam, they couldn’t just let anyone into the manor.

Alice Cole’s face fell. "Did I not just tell you? I am Alice Cole, the madam of the York Family! I will be your young master’s future mother-in-law! Do I need an appointment to enter my own home?"

"I’m sorry, but regardless of who you are, an appointment is required. Alternatively, you could call our master or madam. We can only let you in with their permission." Even though Alice Cole was furious, the guard’s expression didn’t change in the slightest as he politely informed her of the need for an appointment.

Alice Cole was about to start screaming, but Brooke York quickly grabbed her hand. "Mom, don’t get so worked up. This is probably just the manor’s rule!"

Then, she lowered her voice and whispered in Alice Cole’s ear, "Mom, I haven’t married into the family yet. What if this guard goes and tells the Prescotts something bad about me? That would leave a terrible impression."
