"Hmm?" Mason Nightshade raised his voice slightly as he noticed Iris Cooper’s silence, clearly unwilling to cut her any slack.

The President and Mason wouldn’t have heard what she said earlier, right? Iris Cooper’s face turned pale as she secretly observed Mason Nightshade and Adrian Cooper’s expressions, but their cold, icy demeanors gave nothing away about their thoughts.

"Hmm?" Mason asked again.

"Of-Of course I’m qualified," Iris Cooper knew she couldn’t avoid it any longer, so she forced a smile and replied.

Mason’s lips curved into a mocking smile, and his gaze toward Aurelia Shaw softened instantly. "Here to see me?"

Though that wasn’t originally the case, Aurelia couldn’t admit she was there to get information from Ava. She pondered for a moment and nodded. "But I didn’t expect to run into another woman here."

That statement had layers of meaning.

It could be interpreted as the President and First Lady having a good relationship, making it unlikely for other women to appear at the presidential residence, or that Iris Cooper deliberately tried to trap Aurelia.

Iris shot a furious glance at Aurelia, thinking, this damn woman, she must have done it on purpose! She knew that woman was up to no good! She looked as unassuming as a vixen on the surface but she was cruel-hearted underneath.

Iris, who initially intended to slip away, suddenly changed her mind.

If she left, and Aurelia complained to her cousin behind her back... no, she had to watch this woman leave before she could go.

Aurelia saw through Iris’s intentions, sneered in her heart, and decided to leave with Mason to avoid further entanglement over such trivialities.

After seeing the two off, Adrian Cooper returned inside and glanced at Iris, "You’re still not leaving?"

Whether it was Iris’s imagination or not, she felt Adrian’s gaze was quite cold.

...

Mason held Aurelia’s hand all the way, drawing many curious glances. Aurelia thought for a moment but still attempted to pull her hand out of Mason’s grip.

But.

She tugged, but it didn’t budge.

"Mason."

"Hmm?" Mason looked at her, and Aurelia pointed and glanced down at their entwined hands, instantly conveying her meaning. Mason’s brows furrowed, and he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

"Am I someone who can’t see the light of day?"

Aurelia hesitated and shook her head instinctively.

"Am I not handsome? Not rich? Or do you think it’s embarrassing to be seen with me?" Mason asked again.

Aurelia shook her head again, gradually realizing he had misunderstood her intentions.

She felt that in Capital City, with so many people watching, he was a Major General, and such behavior might harm his image.

But in Mason’s eyes, it took on a different meaning, "Is having an old... boyfriend like me embarrassing?"

Aurelia shook her head.

How could it be embarrassing?

"Proud?" Mason asked again.

Aurelia pondered for a moment, then nodded. Mason’s lips curled into a striking arc, gripping Aurelia’s hand even tighter, as if he would never let go, "Okay, then I’ll let you feel proud for a little while longer."

Aurelia didn’t quite understand at first but realized just as they neared their residence.

She couldn’t help but chuckle.

The entire journey indeed made her feel quite proud.

...

As Mason and Aurelia just stepped inside, they saw Junia Simpson and Grayson Quinn in the living room.

Mason glanced over Junia, his eyes landing on Grayson, "Still have the time to wander around here? Hasn’t the elder Mr. Quinn been looking for you everywhere?"

"He has looked for me," Grayson replied lazily from the sofa, a sly smile forming on his lips, "I’ve been staying at my older brother’s villa outside. Even with the old man’s wit, he wouldn’t guess I’m hiding right under his nose."
