Chapter 1212: We’re Not Siblings, Are We?
Mason Nightshade wanted to pull her back into his embrace, but Aurelia stepped back, looking at him with a stubborn and determined gaze.
"Mason, you..." Aurelia paused for a moment, and when she finally spoke, she realized she was truly a bit scared.
This feeling hadn’t appeared for a long time.
Familiar yet somewhat unbelievable, she thought she was mentally strong enough not to fear anything, yet there was still something to fear.
When you don’t own something, you fear nothing, but once you have it, anything you own becomes a weakness you don’t want to lose.
Aurelia took a deep breath and still asked, "Tell me the truth, what did Sophie Nye mean by those words?"
Mason Nightshade pressed his lips tightly, clearly reluctant to speak.
But he also knew that with Aurelia’s persistence, she would want to get to the bottom of things.
Rather than having her hear exaggerated answers from others, it was better for him to tell her himself.
After a mental struggle, Mason sighed, "Before Godwin Nightshade died, he met with Isabella Parker. Someone with ulterior motives sent intimate photos of them to Grandpa. He had the heart attack when he saw the photos."
"Did Grandpa think it was me?" Aurelia blurted out.
"What are you saying!" Mason admonished in a deep voice, "Godwin Nightshade’s death is something that Grandpa could never get over. He didn’t die on the battlefield, not from an accident, not from illness, but he took his own life..."
The most unacceptable, the most irresponsible, the most heartbreaking... way to die.
The pain of having an elder bury their child is the most heartbreaking. Kai Nightshade was like this. Every time Godwin was mentioned, his heart would ache, so the family didn’t dare to keep a single photo of Godwin.
Everyone in the Nightshade Family knows this, and Aurelia naturally knows it too.
Her eyebrows furrowed, "You mean my mom and your dad..." Suddenly realizing something, she blurted out, "We’re not... siblings, are we?"
As soon as she said this, Mason’s face instantly darkened, "What nonsense! If you were my sister, would I do such things to you? Stop overthinking. I’ll handle everything so you don’t worry, okay?"
Under Mason Nightshade’s gaze, Aurelia nodded.
After cleaning her thoroughly, Mason carried her out and placed her on the bed, holding her from behind, pulling her into his embrace without any unnecessary actions.
His arms were especially strong, tightly holding her.
The warmth of their close contact dispelled Aurelia’s wild thoughts, and soon sleepiness overtook her. Her eyelids drooped heavily, and she drifted into a deep slumber.
The deep night’s silence was accompanied by the steady, even breathing of the man.
Aurelia suddenly opened her eyes.
She carefully turned over; the arm across her waist was strong, and she used a great deal of effort to reach her phone.
...
The phone on the table vibrated once.
Long, slender fingers tapped open a message, and Grayson Quinn’s fox-like eyes revealed a hint of amusement, "Why is Aurelia texting me at this time?"
Junia Simpson, sitting opposite him, remained silent, sipping her drink.
Grayson Quinn raised an eyebrow, "Looks like something happened with the Nightshade Family. She’s asking me about the relationship between Godwin Nightshade and Isabella Parker from over a decade ago."
Junia finally glanced up with still indifferent eyes.
Grayson Quinn’s fingers danced swiftly over the keyboard, "Mason wouldn’t lie to you."
