Chapter 1272: Cat Abuse
Aurelia Shaw immediately chased after.
Who knew the cat would jump onto the fountain, noticed by a little girl playing with water nearby, who reached out to grab the cat.
Aurelia worried the white cat might be too docile and bullied by the child. Just as she was about to intervene, the previously meek white cat suddenly extended its sharp claws, reaching for the girl who was tugging hard on its tail.
The girl cried out in pain, letting go, and burst into tears. The white cat turned around and jumped into Aurelia’s arms, nestling its head tightly against her arm, curling up into a small, vulnerable ball as if it had found sanctuary.
"Why did you let your cat out without a leash! It scratched my daughter like this; if it leaves a scar, will you be responsible for my daughter’s future?" the girl’s mother angrily questioned.
"Clearly, it was your daughter who grabbed the cat’s tail first. The cat was in pain and retaliated. A cat’s tail is a sensitive area. Even humans would instinctively resist if suddenly grabbed in a sensitive spot," Aurelia replied calmly.
"How can an animal compare to a human? A beast that scratches like this should be beaten to death!" the woman said, unrelenting.
"Beaten to death?" Aurelia’s tone grew cold.
"That’s right! Who knows if this beast will scratch others? Such a beast shouldn’t be in a place like this. You’re its owner, and you don’t even know the basics? Indeed, like owner, like beast," the woman said arrogantly, looking at Aurelia.
Aurelia’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
She loathed people who disregarded life. In front of them, a living being didn’t count as a life at all.
"Quite the commotion here," a man’s voice suddenly interjected.
Upon seeing Mason Nightshade, the woman’s arrogance instantly vanished. She lowered her head, holding her daughter, and retreated to the side, obsequiously greeting, "Young Master Nightshade."
Mason Nightshade gave the woman an indifferent glance.
The woman felt a chill run over her like frost, shivering slightly.
"I looked around for you the moment I blinked, and here you are. I’ve been searching for quite some time," Mason said tenderly. His gaze at Aurelia was as soft as moonlight, his eyes filled solely with her presence.
The others were initially startled but soon recognized Aurelia.
The woman also recognized Aurelia, breaking out in a cold sweat. Her knees buckled, and she knelt down, trembling slightly, her face turning pale with fright, "Young Master, I didn’t mean what I said earlier; I truly didn’t intend to offend Miss Shaw."
"Mom, why are you kneeling? Go grab that cat for me. It dared to scratch me! I want to kill it!" the girl pointed at the cat in Aurelia’s arms with a vicious expression.
Aurelia frowned; she disliked the girl’s expression, which was unbefitting of a child.
Looking at the mother’s earlier behavior, it was clear that her actions had greatly influenced the girl, cultivating a character that scorned life and belittled others.
The woman’s fearful expression changed as she covered the girl’s mouth and held her tightly, "Shut up!" She had been too indulgent to her daughter, pampering her excessively! Offending the Prince before them, let alone the two of them, even her entire family and connections might suffer repercussions.
"Leave," Mason said calmly. He was still rational enough not to fuss over a child, "Teach your child what’s hers and what’s not. A child from a noble family should at least understand this basic etiquette to avoid becoming a source of ridicule."
