Chapter 1273: Confrontation Between Two Men
"Yes, yes, yes, I got it." The woman hurriedly left with her daughter.
Others caught sight of Henry Fletcher not far behind Aurelia Shaw, and didn’t dare linger. Everyone knew these two were like water and fire, bound to clash when they met, and anyone staying would just get caught in the crossfire. You’d have to have a death wish or really think your life is too long to stick around for that kind of drama.
Mason Nightshade’s face suddenly turned dark, his lips began to move, just about to question Aurelia why she was here doing such dangerous things when out of the corner of his eye he saw Henry. His narrow eyes instantly squinted, a chill running through them.
Seeing that he’d been noticed, Henry didn’t dodge, he walked over, first glancing at Aurelia, then looking at Mason, "Long time no see."
"Although we haven’t seen each other for a while, as soon as I returned to the Capital City I’ve often heard your name." Mason coldly curled his lips.
Henry feigned ignorance of Mason’s undertone, his gaze shifting back to Aurelia, his indifferent eyes regaining their deadpan look, then he spoke with hidden meaning: "So he’s your patron."
Aurelia was momentarily stunned, quickly realizing Henry misunderstood, thinking she was a woman in need of a patron.
Henry didn’t follow entertainment news and spent years abroad. Back then, her marriage to Mason was a concealed affair, so it’s not surprising he didn’t know about their relationship.
Right now, there are likely many in the Capital City unaware of her relation with Mason.
Aurelia didn’t explain, the cat in her arms meowed several times, struggling, wanting to leap into Henry’s embrace.
Aurelia paused, asking Henry, "Is this your cat?"
"No." Henry replied in a low voice, "I don’t keep cats."
He turned his head to the side, but the meowing beside his ear continued persistently like a hundred claws scratching at his heart, making him feel pain as he clenched his fingers, tightened his jaw, avoiding looking at the cat, trying not to hear its cries.
To outsiders, this appeared as a cold indifference devoid of any human warmth.
The meowing didn’t stop, Henry endured again and again, finally, unable to resist, he reached out stiffly to pat the cat’s head.
"You have to actually stroke it." Aurelia reminded.
"Like this?"
"Don’t be so stiff, cats can feel it. Relax, it won’t bite you."
"Mm."
Mason: "..."
Mason’s face grew dark as the bottom of a pot, what was this? His woman discussing a cat with his rival? The atmosphere was so warm... he felt like an outsider.
"Ha, since when did you become so interested in cats?" Mason sneered coldly and suddenly thought to ask Henry, "Do you like cats?"
Henry withdrew his hand, hiding it behind him. Upon hearing this, his complexion turned severe, "What a joke, a little beast isn’t worth my affection. But you, you actually left Q City, a small place like that, I thought you’d stay there forever.
After Kai Nightshade retired, he lost his ambition, turned down many who tried to rope him in, and secluded himself in a remote little town. I thought when Godwin Nightshade died, he’d come to his senses and leave that little place, but surprisingly he didn’t have the brains to call you back.
The one with even less brains, is you.
Mason Nightshade."
Henry looked at Mason.
"In the army, you had a bright future. Once you completed the M Nation mission and returned, you’d be promoted to the youngest lieutenant general. Yet you gave up your promising future to go back and take over a fragmented, bankruptcy-threatened company.
You really are brainless." Henry mocked.
"If I didn’t go back to take over the fragmented company, do you think you’d even have the chance to be promoted?" Mason chuckled coldly, always wielding his sharp tongue that could choke anyone with just a sentence. He raised his hand to hold Aurelia’s, just intending to lead her away, when suddenly, his gaze sharpened!
