Chapter 1274: Aurelia Shaw Notices Mason Nightshade’s Injury
Something pierced the air, brushing Mason Nightshade’s arm. Mason, holding Aurelia Shaw, dodged aside, his dark eyes growing cold as he cast a frosty sidelong glance at Henry Fletcher.
"It’s been a few years, but your sneaky skills have definitely improved," Mason mocked.
Henry’s deep, dark eyes glanced into the shadows. "They’re a bunch of rule-breakers."
"Not your subordinates?" Mason asked with a cold laugh.
Henry was silent for a moment. "Yes."
"Ha! Can’t even manage your own subordinates properly. You’re quite the impressive major general," Mason flared up, showing no regard for face.
Henry was at fault this time and remained silent in the face of Mason’s caustic tongue. It had been years since he’d seen Mason. Surprisingly, at their very first meeting, his subordinates had made him lose face in front of Mason. They truly knew how to embarrass him!
Mason seemed to see through Henry’s thoughts and sneered, "Alright, save the reprimand until after we’ve left. Who knows if your scolding is genuine or just for show."
"It isn’t," Henry retorted, losing out verbally. He’d sparred with Mason for years, never once out-talking him.
Henry wasn’t good at communication, a point Mason seized upon. Back when they were in the military, every meeting, Mason would have a go at him. Henry couldn’t win with words, so he faced Mason with a deadpan expression.
Having suffered in this regard many times, Henry felt little upheaval, but what bothered him most was losing face in front of Mason once more!
Those fools...!
They were definitely people under his father’s command.
His own subordinates didn’t have such nerve.
Henry contemplated silently. No one noticed Aurelia’s face turn pale, her gaze fixed intently on her hand gripping Mason’s, her palm sticky, the pungent scent of blood overpowering even the perfume, emanating from Mason.
His body indeed...
The injury just now shouldn’t have caused such significant blood loss. He was injured before this, yet pretended nothing was wrong in front of her!
If not for his movements being hindered by injury, Mason wouldn’t have been grazed by the bullet earlier.
Darkness gleamed in Aurelia’s eyes as she sensed activity among those lurking.
They seemed to have noticed Mason’s abnormal condition too.
Aurelia suddenly dashed out from behind Mason.
Her speed left everyone stunned as she landed a heavy punch on Henry’s face.
Henry hadn’t reacted before his collar was grabbed again, a beautiful over-the-shoulder throw sending him into the fountain.
Sitting dazedly in the water, his clothes drenched, the man in the water quickly regained his senses, casting a chilling gaze towards Aurelia.
Aurelia’s eyes slanted upwards meeting his icy stare, her almond-shaped eyes narrowing slightly, a steely glint flickering across them.
The lurking figures seemed cowed, not daring to move again.
Aurelia exhaled a sigh of relief, swiftly calming herself from the shock of Mason’s injury. She had to maintain composure, no one understood better than she how dangerous Henry was, and how perilous the situation was for them.
If they suspected Mason was injured and decided to make a move, they were highly likely to meet their end here.
Those lying in ambush wouldn’t miss this chance to eliminate Mason.
Since they could ambush here, it indicated they had already planned out their escape.
Mason must have realized this too.
But being injured, even if he wanted to, he couldn’t intimidate those lurking in ambush. That’s why he used those words to provoke Henry; if she hadn’t acted, intimidating those in hiding, they’d end up as mere ghosts under their guns.
Mason glanced at Aurelia, his eyes dark as night, impossible to discern his thoughts. He stepped forward, grasping Aurelia’s hand, giving the impression of shielding her behind him, casting a frosty glance at Henry: "One was a sneak attack from the shadows, the other a proper return. Major General Fletcher, can we leave now?"
As he finished, he cast a meaningful glance at the silent high-rise buildings.
Henry clenched his fingers, his gaze on Aurelia filled with icy murderous intent. He gestured to the people in hiding to retreat, his eyes never leaving Aurelia.
Aurelia sighed inwardly, history absurdly repeating itself.
She was once again targeted by this madman Henry!
How unlucky!
Her hand held by Mason, warmth seeped through her body, seemingly comforting. Mason led Aurelia away without looking back.
Aurelia had wanted to shout to Henry that any grudges could be resolved with her later, she was unafraid!
But she hadn’t shouted it out yet, already being led away by Mason.
Thinking about it, she realized it was better not said. If said, perhaps they wouldn’t have been able to leave at all.
...
Mason led Aurelia forward, not stopping, gradually distancing themselves from the danger. Aurelia lowered her head, looking at the two hands clasped together, still catching the strong scent of blood, suddenly coming to a halt.
Mason turned back to her, puzzled.
Aurelia withdrew her hand from Mason’s palm, looking down at her blood-stained fingers, smiling sadly, "You’re hurt."
Mason’s eyes flickered slightly, his gaze shifting away from her. "Just a minor injury, the bullet grazed me earlier, I’ll have Junia Simpson dress it when we get back."
"No need to go back, just call Junia now to come and bandage it," Aurelia said, taking out her phone and dialing Junia’s number.
Mason wanted to stop her, but seeing Aurelia’s resolute profile, he swallowed back his words.
