Chapter 1210: That Matter Was My Permission
The bone-defined fingers absentmindedly, or perhaps deliberately, rubbed against his palm. There was a long scar in the center of Mason Nightshade’s right palm; the mark split his palm lines right down the middle, stretching all the way to his ring finger. It was hard to see at a glance.
So very few people knew about it.
Except for those extremely close to him.
Aurelia had asked him about it before, where the wound came from. Because she felt that for someone to leave a scar in a place like the palm, that person either had to be more capable than Mason, or had been someone by his side. But Mason hadn’t answered her.
"Sigh." Mason let out a breath, his tone helpless. "You’re overestimating me. I only found out about this not long after I married Aurelia. Since I thought it had nothing to do with Aurelia Shaw, I never told you. Instead, it gave someone with an agenda an opening.
Don’t worry, I know exactly what I’m doing. No matter whether Balthazar Shaw is deliberately playing some tune or what, I’m already guarding against him. What do you think he could possibly do to me?

Mason paused for a long time before softening his voice. "This matter originally had nothing to do with Aurelia. You lashed out at her that fiercely—this time you really hurt her. The moment she heard you were in trouble, she was so scared she almost fainted on the spot."
Kai Nightshade said nothing, but Butler Li opened his mouth beside him. "Given this kind of situation, Miss Shaw has a precedent; it’s only natural that Master would overthink."
As the words fell, Butler Li felt a chilling pressure surge, almost solid, stabbing toward him. He immediately shivered from head to toe, cold spreading through him as his scalp tingled.
Cold sweat broke out all over Butler Li’s body, and he shut his mouth.
Mason’s gaze darkened as he glanced over at Butler Li, then slowly said, "You never asked about what happened before, so I didn’t explain. Now that we’ve brought it up, I’ll clarify: in that incident, I was the one who wronged Aurelia first. Everything that happened at the company had my approval.

Mason had Gustavo Yates drive her back to Nightshade Residence, but Aurelia insisted on returning to the old house. Her grandfather’s look flashed through her mind.
She felt very uneasy.
She couldn’t say where the unease came from, but in her heart there was a kind of intuition: something had definitely happened—something she didn’t know about.
Aurelia didn’t want to go back to Nightshade Residence. Right now she was sorely lacking any sense of security. The way Grandpa had looked at her made her feel as if she was about to be cast aside.
Only by going back to the old house, back to where Grandpa lived, would that feeling dissipate a little.
There was no one in the old house; at this hour Aurelia assumed everyone had gone to bed. As she pushed the door open, the bright lights made her squint.
The person standing before her made Aurelia narrow her eyes.
It really was a déjà vu scene.
Sophie Nye hadn’t expected to see Aurelia either. A flicker of surprise passed through her eyes, but her voice was sharp. "Why are you here?"
"What a joke. It’s not like the old house belongs only to you. Why shouldn’t I be here? From the way you’re talking, you sound practically impatient to take over the Nightshade Family, don’t you?" As she spoke, a dangerous edge slipped into Aurelia’s tone. Her beautiful almond eyes locked tightly onto Sophie Nye.
A chill ran down Sophie’s back, and her voice grew even sharper. "You still have the nerve to come here? Any normal person with a shred of decency wouldn’t show up again. Aurelia Shaw, is your skin really that thick? Everything’s already been exposed and you still have the gall to cling to our Nightshade Family? You must have schemed for a long time before you married into the Nightshade Family, right?"
