Chapter 1209: How Many Things Are You Still Hiding from Me?
Mason Nightshade asked Gustavo Yates to take Aurelia Shaw home, watching as she left in the elevator. Mason’s gaze deepened before he turned back to the hospital room.
Kai Nightshade’s chest rose and fell, his face pale. Upon hearing movement at the door, he looked over, and only when he saw it was Mason did his expression improve. Yet he suddenly seemed to recall something and coldly turned his face away.
Apparently, he didn’t want to engage much with Mason.
Mason wasn’t surprised. He gave the nurse a look, and she tactfully left. Once the door was closed, Mason took a slow seat next to Kai, picked up an apple, and began peeling it meticulously.
Kai shot him a sidelong glance and snorted, "Don’t plead for that girl."
"Why would I plead for her?" Mason’s tone was neutral. "She didn’t do anything wrong. Do I have to plead for her?"
Kai had plenty to say. Didn’t do anything wrong? Her mother was involved in the death of my son, your father, Godwin Nightshade. Is that not wrong?
He opened his mouth, but Kai found himself speechless.
When he first heard the news, his anger surged, he felt deceived, without thinking it through.
But as he calmed down and thought about it, what did Aurelia Shaw have to do with it?
Even if her mother was responsible for Godwin’s death, what did that have to do with this young girl? At this ripe age, how could he still foolishly take out his anger on a young girl?
Seeing Kai sink into silence, Mason knew he’d figured it out himself, and handed over the peeled apple without further comment.
Hesitating slightly, Kai took the apple, saying simultaneously: "I don’t believe that Balthazar Shaw wouldn’t know about Isabella Parker. He’s sending his daughter off to possibly become the daughter-in-law of an enemy, who knows what he’s plotting."
Kai had never liked Balthazar Shaw. He’d heard of his cunning and ruthless nature in business.
On the day Mason got married, he met the man, and the first impression was of someone deeply calculating and manipulative.

Kai didn’t dare to gamble on that.

Suddenly struck by a thought, Kai’s eyes widened as he stared at Mason, who cast his eyes downward. The soft lighting illuminated half of his face, sharpening the contours of his distinct features further, his emotions inscrutable.
"Do you... are you hiding something from me?" Kai demanded.
Mason raised his eyes, his brow seemingly furrowed slightly but it was indiscernible on his face, more like no expression at all. "What do you mean?"
What do you mean?
Such a question implied he was hiding many things from him?
Truly his good grandson, exhibiting his exceptional talent in the military at such a young age. How could he forget his grandson’s overwhelming capability? Would a mere business hold his interest?
Kai sighed, "Do you know about Isabella and Godwin?"
"It’s no secret." Mason’s eyes lowered, his underlying emotions concealed.
Kai paused for a moment, suddenly recalling events from long ago, "You’ve known all along? Even...even about Isabella?"
Mason’s brow slightly furrowed, "Grandfather, you’re overestimating me. Even you just learned that the person in his heart was Isabella. How could I have known sooner?"
