Chapter 1238: Aurelia Shaw Arrested for Suspected Murder
Everyone turned to look at Aurelia Shaw.
Emily Stewart’s eyes were bloodshot, her gaze cold and vicious as if she were staring at a mortal enemy, cursing the other woman to go to Hell. "You’re the killer. I saw it. You killed my boyfriend!"
Aurelia’s lips moved slightly, but she didn’t speak. She lowered her gaze to her own hands—palms so delicate you could see the faint blue veins, now drenched in bright red blood. Drops of Blood Pearl fell, tick-tick, rolling down. Her fingers were long and slender, beautiful like a demon’s hand. The amber irises hidden beneath her lashes were chilled, bottomless.
Heh. Her lips, bare of any makeup yet naturally flushed, curved faintly. She laughed without a sound; there was a trace of misery in that smile, a hint of indifference, and more than a little cold-bloodedness.
Meanwhile, whatever warmth still lingering in her blood was vanishing.
The cops swept Aurelia with suspicious gazes. To be this calm at a murder scene—none of their rookie officers were that composed. Was she scared senseless, or was there some other reason?
"Do you have anything you want to say?"
Aurelia’s lashes trembled, but she didn’t say a word. What was she supposed to say? That she was innocent? That she hadn’t killed anyone? With Emily pointing straight at her, and every detail at the scene pointing to her as the murderer, what defense did she even have left? Anything she said now would be useless—might as well say nothing.
The police asked several questions in a row. Aurelia stayed silent. They had no choice but to take her back to the station.
She glanced up at the oppressive sky that looked about to pour rain, her peach blossom eyes narrowing with a sharp glint.
...
Hadrian Turner had turned on the shared recording function of his headset the moment he answered Aurelia’s call, so he heard everything that happened. By the end, cold sweat was sliding down his back.
He trusted Aurelia. Aurelia would never kill Nolan Lawson. But now she’d been taken away by the police, and he had no evidence to clear her name. He didn’t even know what the situation at the station was. If only he had the right connections...
Hadrian froze, then the next second, struggle flickered in his eyes. He gripped his phone, hesitating for a long time. Finally, he clenched his teeth and dialed Mason Nightshade’s number.
"H-hi, President Nightshade, I—I’m Hadrian Turner..."
...
In the president’s office of Nightshade Corporation, Mason Nightshade was in a video call with Adrian Cooper. Things in Capital City had been restless lately; they suspected someone was stirring up trouble behind the scenes and were discussing it.
Mason was a little surprised to get a call from Hadrian. He remembered the man—Hadrian had helped Aurelia quite a bit. As for what Hadrian felt for Aurelia, Mason knew very well. The guy had no intention of going any further, and keeping him at Aurelia’s side was more beneficial to her. So Mason had always turned a blind eye to their relationship and never interfered.
Mason gave a faint "Mm," indicating he recognized him. "What is it?"
Hadrian pressed his lips into a tight line. He was sure that if Aurelia found out what he was doing right now, she’d be furious. She’d called him precisely because she didn’t want Mason to know. But given the situation, he couldn’t handle it alone. He had no choice but to ask Mason for help.
Hadrian hesitated for a moment, then said, "Aurelia... she’s been taken away by the police."
A storm surged instantly in Mason’s eyes, a dark light crashing like waves. "Spell it out. How did Aurelia end up being taken by the police? On what grounds are they holding her?"
"On suspicion... of murder." Hadrian only said four words.
Mason almost shot up from his chair, the legs scraping harshly against the floor with a shrill "screech——."
