Chapter 1239: What Am I Supposed to Do When I’m This Soft on You?
"Suspected of murder?" A calm voice, difficult to hide the chill and murderous intent.
Adrian Cooper on the other end of the computer could clearly feel it; his particularly curved eyes deepened even more.
Mason Nightshade picked up his coat and keys, raised his hand to close the video call with Adrian Cooper, and Adrian’s voice sounded before the call ended.
"How did your little wildcat get involved in a murder case?"
Mason glanced at Adrian, "She wouldn’t kill."
After saying that, Mason hung up the video call and quickly walked out.
His car sped swiftly, and upon arriving at the police station, the anger in Mason’s heart not only did not diminish but grew even more intense. His footsteps were heavy and cold, and within ten steps, one could feel the extreme chill emanating from him.
Team Captain Fang Xian from the Criminal Investigation Team shuddered and asked with a smile, "Mr. Nightshade, is there something urgent that brings you here so late?"
Mason’s thin lips curved coldly, more like a sneer, looking as if they barely moved, a sharp curve that could cut someone, "Officer Fang, you know better than anyone why I’m here, right?"
"Yes, yes, the person you’re looking for is over here." Fang Xian led Mason towards the detention room, thinking to himself how they had kept this matter very discreet, yet this King Victor Yann still got wind of it and managed to investigate his identity in such a short time.
It seems the rumors about Mason, although retired from the military and in business, still holding significant power in Capital City, are not entirely false.
Through a long, dimly lit corridor, the heavy door of the detention room opened.
The young officers stepped aside.
Mason took a few steps inside, instantly feeling a wave of chill hitting him, vividly felt through his suit, with light so dim inside it was hard to see.
He glanced at the air conditioner hanging on the wall, then meaningfully scanned the two police officers behind him. The two of them shivered in unison, their eyes darting around with guilty conscience.
There was movement from the corner, Mason’s pupils shrank, his steps nearly stumbling forward, it is said that caring causes chaos, and Mason, who never panicked in any dangerous situation, had thrown all his usual calm and logic out the window at this moment.
He only needed to know if that woman was okay! Whether this daring little wildcat was scared, whether she’d been left here alone thinking of him?
Familiar footsteps sounded in her ears, Aurelia Shaw’s eyelashes trembled, her uplifted eyes flashed with a cold sharpness, which transformed into a soft glow the instant she saw the tall figure of the man.
She opened her arms and plunged into Mason’s embrace, her lashes shielding the deep eyes.
Mason was taken aback by her unexpected action, assuming she was frightened this time, he tightened his arms with a heart full of pain, and planted a gentle kiss on her head, "It’s okay, I’m here now."
"Mm." Smelling the familiar lemon scent from the man, and the faint aroma on his clothes, the agitation in Aurelia’s blood settled down, "I’m scared..."
All the anger, all the thoughts of reprimanding her, vanished suddenly upon hearing those three words, Mason sighed, yet again defeated by her.
On the way here, he was fuming with anger, determined to give her a seriously memorable reprimand this time...
But he lost again to her saying, "I’m scared."
Whenever she softens, his heart fills with pain, much less able to scold her.
"What am I going to do with you?" Mason said inexplicably, before finally releasing Aurelia, as if just now remembering the two police officers by the door, "I’ve understood how it went down, Aurelia is a suspect in this case, with no direct evidence pointing to her having killed someone. I’m here to bail her out now."
