Aurelia Shaw pushed Mason Nightshade away.

Junia Simpson bent down to hold the cat, but before her hands could touch a single hair, the white cat meowed, turned around, and jumped out of the window.

This is the third floor!

Startled, Junia Simpson looked outside, only to see the cat nimbly jumping along the ledge and deftly leaping to the ground.

Soon, it disappeared into the night.

"What a strange cat," Junia Simpson murmured softly.

...

The white cat weaved through the crowd, jumping into the arms of a man, obediently licking his fingers affectionately.

The man was dressed in a deep black suit, his entire presence enveloped in gloom. He wore silver earrings and a ring with a complex pattern on his thumb, his red eyes gleaming wickedly with a malevolent allure, his thin lips curving into a sinister, chilly smile.

Alaric Wood lifted his gaze, watching the direction in which Aurelia Shaw departed.

"Du, I’m here to take you away."

...

The car stopped at the presidential residence.

The servants were taken aback when they saw Mason Nightshade sitting in the wheelchair, with Aurelia Shaw pushing him inside.

What happened to Major General Night?

He had only been out for a short while, so why return in a wheelchair?

Each servant harbored doubts in their hearts, but dared not ponder too much. Working at the presidential residence meant knowing not to be overly curious; otherwise, they might only bring misfortune upon themselves.

"You wait here, I’ll make some porridge for you to drink, be good." Aurelia Shaw patted Mason Nightshade’s hair and went into the kitchen.

Mason Nightshade raised his hand and touched the spot where Aurelia Shaw had just patted his hair.

Treating him like a child?

Aurelia Shaw finished cooking the porridge and was about to bring it out when her phone suddenly vibrated. She took it out of her pocket and opened it to find a cryptic message.

"Du, I’m back. CH."

Huh? Aurelia Shaw stared at the message in confusion.

Du? That’s not her. Did someone send it to the wrong person?

Besides Mason Nightshade and the others, is there someone else sending messages in code?

Moreover, isn’t there supposed to be a signal blocker at the presidential residence? How did this number reach her phone?

...

Mason Nightshade sat in the wheelchair, with his finger resting on his chin, his gaze fixed on the woman in the kitchen. He deliberately chose a spot where he could see inside, watching as Aurelia Shaw came out of the kitchen holding the porridge.

Aurelia Shaw pushed Mason Nightshade to the dining table.

Mason Nightshade reached out, and before his fingers could touch the bowl, Aurelia Shaw took it away.

She scooped up a spoonful, blew on it, and brought it to Mason Nightshade’s mouth, "Open your mouth, ah——"

"..." Mason Nightshade was silent for a moment, looking at Aurelia Shaw, "I’m not a child. If you really want to take care of a child, we could have one."

"You are injured now," Aurelia Shaw said.

"My fingers aren’t injured," Mason Nightshade retorted.

"Your arm is injured! Junia Simpson has instructed you to reduce movement, and it’s best if you lie still in bed," Aurelia Shaw said and then suddenly fell silent, looking at Mason Nightshade.

Mason Nightshade didn’t need to think to guess what she was thinking, "Impossible."

Lying in bed doing nothing was impossible for him.

"Were those people who ambushed us today Henry Fletcher’s men?" Aurelia Shaw asked, though she felt it wasn’t likely to be Henry Fletcher.

Though Henry Fletcher is a madman and acts extremely, he’s not someone who would resort to underhanded tactics.

He seemed genuinely surprised that those people were lying in wait nearby.

"They were Left Chancellor’s men," Mason Nightshade said calmly.

Aurelia Shaw figured it out.

It wasn’t Henry Fletcher’s men, but they answered to him, which meant they were under the orders of his father.

Left Chancellor.
