Chapter 1223: Grandpa’s Sudden Change in Attitude... (Part 3)
Isabella Bradford was just about to help Aurelia Shaw explain when the girl, who had been sitting perfectly straight, suddenly slumped in her seat, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "I was looking for a quiet place to clear my mind and ended up here with Second Aunt."
Isabella Bradford was momentarily stunned, her gaze surprised as she glanced at Aurelia Shaw.
"What are you clearing your mind from?" Mason Nightshade looked at Isabella Bradford again. "She’s lively and I’ve spoiled her. I do hope she hasn’t disturbed you, Aunt."
Isabella Bradford smiled and nodded, unable to resist glancing at Aurelia Shaw once more. The girl was poised and gracious in her presence, polite yet maintaining a subtle distance. But as soon as she saw Mason Nightshade, her icy demeanor melted away like a cat that, upon seeing its master, becomes relaxed and playful.
Mason Nightshade’s words seemed to criticize Aurelia Shaw, but a careful listen revealed an undertone of protection and affection.
Isabella Bradford remembered the nephew she’d met years ago, a person whose cold nature was hard for anyone to accept, having acquired a stern aura from his military service that scared people away. Back when Aurelia Shaw married him, he was reportedly strongly against it. Yet, in a short span, they divorced, but now it seems they are even more loving than before.
Isabella Bradford felt she had been away from the world too long and was out of touch with its happenings.
Isabella Bradford didn’t like Sophie Nye, yet Mason Nightshade seemed to have no issue with Sophie Nye’s character. Mason’s disposition and personality were so different from Sophie’s that it was hard to imagine him as her son.
"Aurelia has quite a quiet nature, she hasn’t disturbed me at all. Here’s some tea I’ve prepared myself. Mason Nightshade has come to fetch you, so why don’t you both head back?" Isabella Bradford handed over a wrapped package of tea leaves.
Quiet? When has she ever been quiet? Mason helped Aurelia receive the package.
Isabella Bradford couldn’t help but glance at the couple once more.
Mason Nightshade bid farewell to Isabella Bradford, pulling Aurelia Shaw along as they left the courtyard. Feeling the cold hand in his palm, Mason Nightshade furrowed his brows, taking off his coat and draping it over Aurelia’s shoulders. "You came out in your sleepwear, and it’s not warm yet. I thought you’d learned your lesson from the last cold, but it seems you need a bit more freezing."
Aurelia pulled the coat tighter, immediately feeling the warmth, sniffed with a hint of amusement, "If I catch a cold, won’t it be you who worries?"
"You know that, yet you still dare to dress so lightly outside." Mason gritted his teeth.
"I didn’t pay attention when I came out. You weren’t around, so I wanted to come out to find you but ended up visiting Second Aunt. Look, I specifically asked for this tea for you. I found it delicious and thought of you, wanting you to try it too." Aurelia showed a smile to the man, "Aren’t you touched?"
"Indeed I am." Mason sighed breathily, his breath tickling Aurelia’s ears and making them itch. "I want to pin you to the bed and reward you properly and also punish you a little."
"Shameless!" Aurelia replied.
Mason chuckled indulgently, and as he looked down, he noticed Aurelia was still wearing summer sandals that exposed her feet, probably dug out from somewhere. His suppressed anger flared again, and he bent down to pick her up.
The movement was slightly rough due to his irritation, and Aurelia was startled, grabbing Mason’s shirt tightly, exclaiming, "What... what are you doing? Want to show off your affection openly to annoy everyone?" "Coming out in summer slippers and still have the nerve to ask me!" He should probably toss her over his waistband; he overestimated her ability to take care of herself!
One of Aurelia’s sandals flew off as Mason lifted her, while the other dangled from her foot. "If you’re going to carry me, can’t you do it in a different pose?" Could he please not carry her like a sack?
