Chapter 1222: Grandpa’s Sudden Change in Attitude... (Part 2)
Aurelia Shaw was about to leave when she heard a gentle woman’s voice that sounded somewhat familiar upon careful listening.
Aurelia was taken aback and turned around to see a woman dressed simply, with ordinary looks, but an elegant demeanor.
Considering her age... Aurelia quickly deduced the woman’s identity.
Isabella Bradford.
Since Simon Nightshade died, Isabella Bradford had shut herself away in the secluded courtyard, not stepping out, spending her days in prayer, oblivious to the outside world.
Aurelia had heard about the second wife long ago but had never met her.
Ah, no, they had met before.
The first time Aurelia had a relapse, Eleanor Spencer secretly reported her, and the rehab center staff came to arrest her. In panic, she ran into the secluded courtyard. At that time, Isabella even lent her a place to hide for a while. Unfortunately, since Eleanor could report her, how could she let her get away safely?
Aurelia was someone who always repaid her debts, and Isabella had helped her, even if it was just a small kindness.
With a smile curling on her red lips, Aurelia greeted Isabella, "Second wife."
Isabella was taken aback, clearly not expecting Aurelia to be so polite to her, and quickly she also smiled, "I see you looking so lost; have you gotten lost? Come in for a cup of tea?"
"Sure." Aurelia agreed with a lifted smile.
Isabella couldn’t help but look at Aurelia a few more times, having heard from the servants that Mason Nightshade’s ex-wife was easy to bully and particularly afraid of Sophie Nye. Now it seemed what the servants said couldn’t all be trusted.
Isabella rarely went out, so her sources of information were limited.
Aurelia also seldom came to the old residence.
The servants’ impression of Aurelia remained at the time when she was trying to please Sophie Nye; otherwise, when she came out looking so lost and wandered to the secluded courtyard, no servant reminded her. They probably wanted to see her become a joke.
That’s how people are, when it doesn’t concern them, they stand aloof, more interested in watching the spectacle.
Following Isabella inside, Aurelia immediately felt an unusual fresh scent. The courtyard was planted with flowers and herbs, and the house’s decor leaned towards a vintage style.
Isabella brewed a pot of tea and poured some for Aurelia.
Aurelia lifted the teacup and took a small sip, "I didn’t expect the second wife’s tea-making skills to be so good."
"You know tea?" Isabella looked surprised.
Aurelia shook her head, "I’m sorry to disappoint you, I don’t know tea, but I can tell if it tastes good or not. The tea you’ve brewed is the best I’ve ever had, with a faint and refreshing fragrance.
Honestly, I was a bit agitated when I came here, but after sitting here for a while, smelling the sandalwood incense, and drinking the tea you brewed, I felt much calmer."
"If you like it, feel free to come by more often." Isabella paused, as if something occurred to her, then added, "If you don’t mind."
"Of course, I wouldn’t mind." Aurelia finished the tea in her cup, then smiled sweetly at Isabella, asking for more tea.
Isabella chuckled as she refilled the cup.
As night fell, the horizon was embraced by the gradually darkening evening. It was only then that Aurelia realized how long she had been sitting there. The two had said nothing at all, just sitting face to face, one reading sutras, the other watching the scenery. They drank two pots of tea, and just like that, night fell.
Aurelia discovered that she had this kind of elegance, able to sit quietly and calmly for an entire afternoon.
In later years, finding a quiet and secluded place to spend those years wouldn’t be bad.
Just as Aurelia settled on this thought, Mason Nightshade seemed to have a kind of telepathic connection as he came to the secluded courtyard. Seeing Isabella, he nodded and greeted her with an intention to leave, "Aunt."
Then he looked at Aurelia, "Why are you here disturbing aunt’s peace?"
