Tou no Madoushi
Lesson 3: Strange Interview
Tens of minutes on the elevator. The cage carrying Lynn and Yuin reached the 99th floor.
It stops shaking with gakun, just like it did when it was activated.
It was dark on one side.
Yuin casts another spell.
Then the candlestick is lit and a passage illuminated by orange light appears.
There was a door just down the aisle.
"That's the test venue."
Yuin points to the door.
"If you knock on the door, the examiner will be waiting. The examiner will start the exam after asking you a few questions. Be honest with your questions."
Yuin takes the letter out of his nostalgia and gives it to Lynn.
"This is a letter of recommendation. Give it to the examiner."
Yuyne left herself undone when she got Lynn out of the cage.
"That's it for my escort. Go alone from here on out. Well, good luck with that."
Spell again and move the elevator. The cage that put Yune in went down the road he came from, and eventually he became invisible.
Lynn stands in front of the door.
Finally. Moments when your life could change dramatically.
What are you waiting for if you take this exam?
Happy or unhappy, I don't even know that.
Still, I can't go back.
Lynn's getting nervous. My heart is pounding and my body is shaking.
Lynn knocked on the door modestly.
"Go ahead."
I hear voices from inside.
Open the door as if you had decided to grab the knob and handle.
The test venue was dim, but spacious.
Inside the room were chairs and tables, and three humans.
Two men and one woman. They were all older.
"Sit in that chair there."
A woman points to the chair placed in the room and orders Lynn. Lynn sat back in the chair as instructed in the shabby motion. The three of them will be dressed across the long desk.
"Do you have a letter of recommendation?
"Yes."
Lynn retrieves the letter of recommendation that was given to Uynn earlier from the nostalgia.
A woman casts some spell when she sees it. I wondered if there was a wind-cut noise called Huh, and the letter that was in Lynn's hand had moved to the woman's hand at some point.
"Hmm. Sure. This is a letter that can only be made by a magician."
(Is that... magic?)
The woman turns the letter to the other two as well. The two men glance at the writ and undo the woman.
"Let us the Examiner recognize you as a student recommended by the Magic Instructor Yune. Ask a few questions before starting the exam first. Be honest with your questions."
(After all, are these people the examiners?)
Lynn once again observed three people named Examiner.
The woman sitting on the left from Lynn has a broken cheek with deep wrinkles and sharp eyes. The man sitting in the middle accumulates a rich white beard on his bald head, but his eyes are more and more cloudy. The man on the right had this again a deep wrinkle and carving on his bald head, with a rugged face and a strong face.
Lynn was nervous when these three saw him as a giro at the same time.
"First. Do you understand what we're saying?"
"Yes.... maybe"
"Maybe?"
"Yes, I'm not used to hearing what you're saying, but I can understand why."
This is not the first experience of its kind. In fact, the languages spoken by Yuin and Atrea were also unfamiliar to Lynn.
But I can understand why.
Words convey what they want to communicate directly into their heads, even if they don't understand.
It was like that.
The only person who could communicate was the Magic Instructor.
Thanks. This seemed like the magic power they use was working.
The examiners started talking to Hisohiso after hearing Lynn's answer.
It was just that the words they spoke were a little noisy and hard to hear.
Maybe he's weaker as a magician than Ewing or Atrea.
"… seems to have minimal qualities"
"Is this language of his... triarian"
"But it's terrible."
Lynn felt somewhat unwelcome.
They see Lynn as a dildo even as they talk hissohisso.
Besides, it wasn't his face I saw. I felt poured into the outfit below it.
Lynn accidentally hides the stains on her clothes.
"I see. Fair enough. So what's your name next?
My name is Lynn.
"What's your last name?
"No last name..."
"None? Why?
"... because I'm an orphan. I don't have any parents."
They started talking to Hisohiso again.
I didn't really hear what you were saying, but interrupted, "Slave," "Are you okay?" "It's Mr. Ewing's recommendation..." and other words were heard.
Lynn was uncomfortable.
This would still be better if you were chatting with Yuin.
I wonder how long this interview will last.
I was told that the College of Magic Instructors would accept talented students regardless of their identity or race, but is it still not possible in the slave class?
It makes me feel hopeless.
Lynn I had intended for the exam earlier, but now I was filled with desire for it to be finished soon.
"Mr. Lynn. It seems you speak Triarian. [M] What country are you from?
Uncle on the strong side on the right asks strangely tenderly.
"I'm from Carey in Miln territory. The country... I don't know"
"Don't you even know your country"
"Yeah, so I didn't have a problem with that."
In fact, Lynn, who was a slave class, had only known the name of his lord, that was enough.
I've never been aware of my nationality.
The very concept of the state didn't really pin.
I didn't know why I needed brackets like that.
When they heard this, the examiners started talking to Hisohiso again.
It seemed unpleasant for nothing.
I never felt like Lynn had something to say about their identity and their lack of upbringing.
"Miln territory? Never heard of it."
"It's a territory on the eastern edge of the country of Buen."
"Remote and secluded."
Lynn is starting to feel bad.
I didn't really feel good to be told a lot about my hometown.
They start talking hissohisso again.
"What do you think?
"Thank you for being a slave..."
"But the college also has something called Pre-Construction..."
"Why do people like this have talent?
"... I'll have to test my powers in the exam anyway"
The three continue to talk hissohisso for a while before turning back to Lynn.
"Mr. Lynn. I know exactly what you're like."
Uncle Whitebeard in the middle speaks to Lynn.
"If you don't have any differences, I'm going to have you tested for your qualities as a magician. If you pass, your residence will be appreciated in this tower and you will be allowed to train as an apprentice magician. I just want you to know that. Becoming a magician is not an easy thing. Every year, many come to the tower, but in the end they cannot even graduate from college, wasting precious time in their lives. You seem to have minimal qualities, too, but there is no guarantee that you can graduate. I don't know. Do you still want to take the test?
"... Yes"
Lynn answered after getting a little lost.
Though I got lost for a moment, it was still a clear answer.
"Right. Take the exam."
The old man with the white beard said with a heartless or disappointing look before turning back to the woman.
Then, Mr. Eratos, explain the exam.
"Yes. Bye, Lynn. Take that ring with you."
Soon there was a trinket storage next to Lynn, and a ring was placed on top of it.
Lynn reluctantly takes the ring and observes.
It was a beautiful ring.
A silver ring is fitted with blue jewels and something is engraved on it.
"Put the ring in place."
Lynn fits the knife and ring into her middle finger.
I was wondering if I could wear such expensive stuff......
The ring fits softly into Lynn's finger.
It was as if it had been made to fit the size of Lynn's fingers.
There was a strange intimacy for the ring in the phosphorus.
I even feel like I've had it for a long time, for some reason, to fit it for the first time.
"Great. Now let me explain what the exam is about."
Listening to the examiner's words, Lynn was often distracted by her interest in the ring.
I really wanted to stare at the ring a little bit more or mock it, but now the contents of the exam were more important.
Lynn sat back and watched the examiner's mouth not to overhear the examiner's explanation.
"Lynn, you will fight the Beast now"
Lynn turned into a pocan. Because the examiner didn't know what he was talking about.
(With the Beast... just... huh?... me?...... now!?)
"Uh, um..."
"Fight the Beast. If you win, you pass. If you lose, you're disqualified."
(If you lose, you're disqualified... instead of disqualified, you're dead!)
"Um, hey..."
"Then I'll start the exam. I will summon the Beast to this room now. In a few dozen seconds a hungry beast will appear and strike you."
"Wait a minute! I can't believe I fought the Beast... not to me..."
"Lynn. You should be able to pass if you have the qualities to be a magician. Bye."
The examiner blocked Lynn's words without saying yes or no, and said the same thing as Yuin.
The examiners, desks and chairs disappear neglectfully with the sound of wind cuts.
All that remained was a magic formation painted on the floor.
Shortly afterwards, when I wondered if its magic formation had glowed, sharp fangs and nails, and a lion who had produced a golden tendency, appeared before Lynn's eyes.
