Transition to Another World, Landmines Included

004 We've reached the city (1)

About an hour of walking around asking about common sense in different worlds.

We were reaching the gates of the walls that surrounded the city.

They're less than three meters tall? It's stacking blocks and blocking gaps with lacquer or something.

Looking at the left and right walls from the gate, it's a pretty big city, isn't it?

The gate is a double-open door made of seemingly sturdy wood, which is now wide open.

The width is different with about two carriages, but there aren't that many people going through the gate, and it doesn't look like they need to wait.

In front of the gate stands several soldiers with swords on their hips and spears in one hand slightly longer than their height.

"Well, let's go. I'll take care of it, so you don't stand back and talk, because you don't have common sense."

"" … Copy ""

No, well, I'm sure there's no [common sense in the other world], but the way you put it, we're like insane, aren't we?

I think you should leave it to me, though, so I won't talk.

"Hello ~"

Of the several soldiers responding to people entering the city in front of the gate, Yu speaks to a young man a little older than us.

The soldier's mouth also breaks on that perfect sales smile.

The proportions are modest, but the aesthetics are getting better!

If I wasn't familiar with childhood, I'd accept being deceived.

"Oh, hello. Uh, are you... adventurers, are you?

A soldier who looks around at the three of us and twists his neck so hard to judge.

"No, I haven't registered yet, but I plan to"

"Really? He doesn't even seem to have a weapon..."

"Yeah, I actually dropped my wallet in the previous city... I had no choice but to sell them and turn them into roadblocks, and I came here. Our magic alone isn't dangerous around here."

"Hmm. I guess they would if they both had elves. So, are taxes okay? One large silver coin per person. Regularly, I can't..."

A soldier who nods as he is convinced, but says worryingly - against Yu. We don't seem to have much in sight.

It's a little annoying, but I appreciate it in a way, so I can see it now.

"Yes, I can handle that."

Yu responds that way and hands us a tax for the three of us together.

Confirming that, the soldier smiles and nods, avoiding slightly to the side and clearing the way.

"Yeah, sure. If you can use magic, I know it's okay, but be careful. Because adventurers have a lot of dangerous jobs."

"Thank you"

I laugh and I bow my head. I mimic "If," and we bow our heads and knock down the gate.

"Ah, you guys!

A few steps, they call out from behind us on foot, and our feet stop perfectly.

I hurriedly corrected my slightly drawn face to a smile and looked back.

"Um, something?

"We haven't decided on an inn, have we? The Square Ahead, 'Sleepy Bear' on the right, is a great place to stay! And my name is Cass. Because if anything happens, I'll talk to you!

A soldier who says that to me in the Japanese "Toko" and so on.

Probably pure generosity. A little... No, I might have a crush on Yu's beauty.

Whatever you say, your gaze is fixed.

But honestly, there's no room in my mind for that right now.

"Thank you. I'll consider it!

Without graduation, I respond lovingly, whereas Chiya and I do our best to keep our faces from catching on.

It is exciting.

We walk out again and keep our feet silent.

Far enough from the gate, they looked at each other, three of them exhaled loudly.

"Huh. I didn't say anything, but I got nervous."

"Right! No, you would've definitely been suspicious if you hadn't been here!

I watched the people through the gate, but they didn't even have baggage, like us, and there wasn't one person who just wore clothes.

Even the lightweight had a small backpack in a leather garment that looked sturdy, and he had a knife around his waist.

Then even if you think about it, being outside the city with a round waist could be suspicious in itself.

"You've worked it out. It wasn't a very good excuse, but even if you were somewhat suspicious, if you didn't cause problems and were serious as an adventurer, you'd probably be fine."

"By the way, sometimes you can't get into the city?

"That's what I have. Well, normally, as long as you pay taxes, you can get in unless you're even a clear criminal, but getting a long interrogation or letting them know where you're staying can be a pain in the ass. You can praise me for getting through this?

"Exactly, Yu!

"Yu, you look great!

Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh

The first time I got to a safe place, I was a little nervous.

Gu ~ ~ ~ ~

"Ooh. Ha, you're hungry!

It was Chiya's stomach that rang.

You had a bit of a bad one, scratching your head with a bitter smile.

"Right, it's like around noon, and it's just fine. Go to the recommended inn while you buy a meal."

If you ask me, I realize I was pretty hungry, too.

Um, before I died, I had breakfast and took the bus, because I don't remember having lunch... no, my body's different, so it might not matter.

"You're in the habit of having lunch, aren't you?

"That's okay. However, it seems that the average person usually lightens things up with stalls and stuff."

"Still, it's not just two meals a day. It's better. As a former modern man, suddenly it's tough to reduce it. Well, what kind of meals are there in different worlds?"

"... I don't think you should expect it."

Blurry and grunting Yu on the back of Chiya, who looks around with joy.

"Oh! It's cheap over there! 30 rar in bread and soup. Let's try it over there!

Never noticing such a lewd appearance, Chiya happily pointed to a single stall.

The soup is simmered in a large pan at the store, and the bread is piled up beside it.

That bread, a little bigger than the palm of my hand, is a little black. Is that the famous black bread in fantasy?

I've eaten regular rye-filled bread, but I've never had complete black bread.

I might be a little excited.

"Well, is there? I don't have any money."

Reluctantly, Yu doesn't feel comfortable, and we gladly pay and receive soup and bread.

We tried to eat fast, and Yo raises his hand and controls us, and takes us a little further from the stall.

"Good? Put bread on soup and soften and eat. Leave a little bread, wipe the vessel with bread at the end before eating. The vessel needs to be returned. OK?"

"Oops. This bread sure looks stiff"

To explain, we snort.

When it comes to black bread, it's a rumor that it's hard bread.

Either way, dip in the soup...

"Hard! Huh? Stiffer than I expected! Besides... isn't that bad?

"Something sour, and the soup just a little soggy isn't tasty, is it?

Chiya tells me, once again, I'll just try the soup, but what's slightly salty is the scum like vegetables and meat... Shards that may be.

Yo doesn't change his expression and quietly carries the dish to his mouth, beside "Kawawa" where we round our eyes and complain.

"Eh, yo, it's not tasty, you know?

I wondered if there was something wrong with our taste, and I asked, but Yu shook his head as "probably."

"It can't be delicious. I was just prepared because I knew."

Speaking of which, you said you'd rather not expect it.

There was something a little admirable about black bread or something classic, but this doesn't fit the ordinary Japanese mouth at least, does it?

"Seriously ~. I thought it would taste better while reading Lanobe..."

Apparently, Chiya was just like me, and I sigh heavily when I look pitifully at the black bread.

"It's also beneficial, isn't it? It's ideal for preserved foods because it's only sunny… or you don't have a choice."

"I think rice is perfect for preserved foods. It's gonna last, and if you have rice, you can have a good meal in a bonfire, right?

"Well, isn't Want the strongest?"

"Oh! It comes out classical or something!

"Yes, yes. He can eat that as it is, or he can just pour water?

"Well, even in modern times, you sell it as alpha rice."

"Is that it?!? Well, just pouring hot water didn't make much difference to regular rice, did it?

I have eaten it as a preserved food in times of disaster, but it was usually delicious.

Unlike freshly cooked rice, of course, it was so well done that I had absolutely no problem eating it constantly.

"Exactly. I think that's getting so much better with modern technology. Unfortunately, however, there is no rice in my 'common sense'!

"I mean, if you're going to be an adventurer, you have to get used to this bread, huh?

When asked, Yu snorts heavily.

"There are other preserved foods, but they still seem delicate, don't they?

"Uh-huh, I'd like to think of something when I can afford it"

"Right. I'm not good at this flavor either, so I'll work with you then..."

Then the two of us, beaten by reality, were silent, finishing our meal in the first place.

When Yu retrieved the empty vessel from us, he asked as he gave it to his father in the stall on three levels.

"Uncle, I'm looking for an inn, don't you know a good place? It's nice to have a private room."

"Well, it depends on the budget..."

That's what I said. My dad stares at our outfits.

Modestly, you wouldn't look like we're rich.

"I was recommended a place called" Sleepy Bear, "where?

"'Sleepy Bear'... Oh, there. Speaking of which, you were also doing the inn. I don't think that's a bad idea. He's heartless, though. It's a little hard to figure out, so when you get to the square ahead, take the main street on the right and ask for the way"

While my father receives the vessel, he points to the end of the road.

If you look at it, there's a place a few hundred meters away that's a little wider.

"Thanks! I'll be back!

Yu laughs and waves at his father, urging us to walk out.

"... are we going again?

When he rushed to follow him, Yu smiled bitterly and shook his head.

"Probably not going.... unless you run out of money"

"Good ~. Bread too, but that soup too... what do you think?

"Japan is doing well even instantly, hey. Even a consomme soup that you can do in 10 seconds if you pour hot water, it looks like it would be awesome if you tried to make it from scratch yourself. If I only had salt too, could I make a delicious soup."

"Really? You're a pretty good cook, aren't you?

Although not frequently, there were occasional opportunities to eat yogurt dishes just for childhood familiarity.

I don't know about the other high school girls' cooking skills, but at least Yo cooked pretty well.

"Thanks. But that's because we have all the seasonings, too. How rich is the dry stuff?"

Dry goods... bonito, kelp, walnuts or something.

Dried shiitake mushrooms and stir-fried eggs are also dry.

If you think about it, the stock "dashi" is important.

When I cook, you throw in the powder stock and you're underhanded, but when you watch a cooking show or something, you throw in quite a lot of bonito or something.

When it comes to using dry goods at that level, stock may be quite a luxury.

I lost all confidence in living in this world at once.

I would like Yu, who is a good cook, to manage to make good food at a low cost.
