Chapter 160: Going to Suffer a Loss
Evan Fairchild’s reaction just now had left a lingering fear in her heart.
’Evan Fairchild had just... completely lost his mind!’
"Mommy, does it hurt?" Ian Monroe asked worriedly.
Melody Monroe raised a hand to her neck, not yet realizing what the issue was.
"Mr. Fairchild wasn’t bullying Mommy. Ian, you misunderstood," Melody Monroe quickly clarified.
"But I saw it!"
"No, that’s not it. We... It’s not what you think," Melody Monroe stammered, looking up at Evan Fairchild.
’I have no idea what got into Evan Fairchild, acting like that all of a sudden, and Ian had to see it!’
’I was scared to death, and I still have to clear things up.’
’This is so hard...’
Ian Monroe still wasn’t convinced.
After all, he’d just seen it, and his mommy’s neck was hurt!
"Ian Monroe, you remember this: I won’t bully your mother! And I will never, ever hurt her!" Evan Fairchild said as he stood up, hauling Ian Monroe up from the bed.
’I have to correct this little brat’s thinking!’
Melody Monroe froze, looking up at Evan Fairchild.
’Did he just say he would never, ever hurt her?!’
"If you ever burst into your mother’s room like that again, you’re going to boarding school! You’ll come home once every six months!"
"I don’t want to go! What gives you the right to send me?"
"Ask your mother what gives me the right."
Melody Monroe: ...
Ian Monroe glanced at his mother and immediately fell silent.
Evan Fairchild said to Melody Monroe, "Come downstairs for breakfast." With that, he walked out, carrying Ian Monroe.
Once the two of them left, the room instantly fell quiet.
Melody Monroe walked to the bathroom. Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she gasped.
’So many marks!? No wonder Ian misunderstood!’
Looking at these marks, she was utterly dismayed.
’They’re so obvious. How am I supposed to cover them up?’
’Evan Fairchild... how could he...’
’How could he do... this... to me?!’
Melody Monroe couldn’t figure it out. ’Perhaps it was just a physical need, with nothing else mixed in.’
Melody Monroe took a deep breath. She truly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
’All I want is Ian. All I want is my son.’
’As for my son’s father, I don’t want him at all!’
Melody Monroe changed her clothes and went downstairs.
The man and the boy, who had nearly come to blows just moments ago, were now sitting in the dining room. The atmosphere was still tense, with neither paying any attention to the other.
Seeing Melody Monroe approach, Claire Walsh immediately pulled out the chair next to Evan Fairchild. "Miss Monroe, please."
"Mommy’s sitting with me." Ian Monroe immediately stood up and deftly pulled out a chair for his mother himself.
"Claire Walsh, contact some boarding schools," Evan Fairchild ordered coldly.
Ian Monroe: ...
Melody Monroe walked toward Evan Fairchild and sat beside him. "President Fairchild, Ian is still too young for boarding school."
"I started school in Britain when I was three and didn’t come home for years at a time."
Melody Monroe grabbed Evan Fairchild’s arm in a panic. "President Fairchild, Ian is different from you. Can you please not send him to boarding school? I know he can’t go back to his old school, but can’t we pick one that’s closer?"
’If this was how Evan Fairchild planned to arrange things, she would be even more worried.’
Ian Monroe looked up at Evan Fairchild but didn’t say a word. He knew that if he defied him now, he would be in for a world of trouble.
"We’ll see how he behaves." Evan Fairchild only meant to intimidate Ian Monroe.
Evan Fairchild ladled a bowl of congee for Melody Monroe. "Eat breakfast."
"About Ian’s school..."
