Evan Fairchild saw she had lost her appetite over the matter, and he glanced at Ian Monroe.

Seeing he said nothing, Melody Monroe knew her words carried little weight. ’I probably can’t persuade him. He’s not going to ask for my opinion on whatever arrangements he wants to make for Ian.’

"Since you can’t bear to let him go, he won’t go to boarding school. After breakfast, Claire Walsh will take him to the kindergarten to get familiar with the place. It’s right here in the villa complex."

Hearing his answer, Melody Monroe instantly let out a sigh of relief. A faint smile touched her lips as she looked at Evan Fairchild. "Thank you."

That smile made Evan Fairchild’s gaze falter. ’Is there a galaxy hidden in her eyes?’

’Her smile was beautiful, more beautiful than when she smiled at Zane Langdon.’

All the displeasure in Evan Fairchild’s heart vanished.

He suddenly reached out and pulled down her collar.

Melody Monroe, who had just begun to relax, immediately tensed up again.

"Let me see." Evan Fairchild’s voice lacked its usual sharpness and force; it sounded very gentle.

Melody Monroe slowly loosened her grip and lowered her head.

Evan Fairchild moved a little closer to her. ’It was just a light touch,’ he thought. ’How did it get this bad?’ He asked softly, "Does it hurt?"

Melody Monroe’s heart couldn’t help but pound violently.

His magnetic voice traveled from her ears straight into her heart, plucking at its strings.

"I’ll be more careful next time," Evan Fairchild added, not waiting for her reply.

’Next time?’

’Next time!’

Melody Monroe quickly shuffled away, putting some distance between them. She didn’t dare to even glance up at him.

Watching Melody Monroe, Evan Fairchild’s brows slowly furrowed. ’Why do I get the feeling she’s even more afraid of me now?’

"After breakfast, come find me in the study. I have something to discuss with you."

"Okay," Melody Monroe nodded.

Evan Fairchild stood up and headed upstairs.

The moment he was gone, Melody Monroe secretly sighed in relief. She took several deep breaths before she felt her composure return.

Ian Monroe watched this unfold, his little cheeks puffed out in anger. He felt a great sense of crisis, as if he were about to lose his mother. Even though she was sitting right in front of him, it felt like she didn’t belong to him anymore.

"Master Hale, you need to eat a bit faster. The appointment at the kindergarten is at nine-thirty, and we only have half an hour," Claire Walsh reminded him from the side.

"Ian, eat up. We have to get you to the kindergarten," Melody Monroe chimed in.

"Mm," Ian Monroe nodded obediently and finished the porridge in his bowl.

Uncle Page was already waiting outside. When Claire Walsh came out with Ian Monroe, he immediately got out of the car and opened the door for them.

Melody Monroe stood at the door, watching Ian Monroe. "You’ll be back in a little bit. Today, Ian is just going for an orientation."

Ian Monroe nodded.

The car slowly drove off. Melody Monroe didn’t go back inside until it was completely out of sight.

Taking a deep breath, she headed straight for the second floor.

As it happened, she had a few things she wanted to ask Evan Fairchild as well.

Evan Fairchild was at his computer, dealing with a backlog of work from the previous day. When he heard a knock, he stopped what he was doing and looked toward the door.

Melody Monroe pushed the door open and stepped inside. Thinking about what had happened that morning made her anxious. She was afraid he would act the way he had this morning.

Evan Fairchild stood up, walked over to a nearby sofa, and sat down.

"Come here."

Melody Monroe shuffled over to the sofa and sat in the single armchair, as far away from Evan Fairchild as possible.

Evan Fairchild was displeased. ’She’s always so deliberate about keeping her distance from me.’

"President Fairchild, you..."
