Chapter 162: What Is Our Relationship?
"Melody Monroe, what is our relationship?" Evan Fairchild asked suddenly.
Melody Monroe was stumped. ’What is our relationship? I have no idea how to answer!’
"From now on, don’t call me President Fairchild. And when you speak to me, stop being so formal."
Melody Monroe stared blankly at Evan Fairchild.
"You can call me Evan, or Evan Fairchild."
"Fai... Fai..." The moment their eyes met, Melody Monroe grew even more nervous. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get the name out. ’It’s just more natural to call him President Fairchild.’
"It’s fine. You can take your time getting used to it. But don’t let me hear you say ’President Fairchild’ or use any other formal terms with me again."
Melody Monroe: ...
"You said you were planning to terminate your contract with Stellaris?" Evan Fairchild cut straight to the chase.
"Now that Ian has... well, you... to look after him, I’m very relieved. I only planned on giving up my career because there was no one to look after him before."
"I really love acting, and I want to be a good actress. I’m just getting started on this path, and I don’t want it to end so soon. I’m not planning to terminate my contract with Stellaris anymore."
"You can act at Starfall, too. You can still be an actress."
A contract termination agreement was already on Evan Fairchild’s computer. Everything was prepared.
"I’ve never considered signing with Starfall," Melody Monroe immediately made her position clear.
’I’m never signing with Starfall! Evan Fairchild already said he wouldn’t hurt me, which means he’s not going to hold that night against me anymore. So why would I deliberately walk into the line of fire?’
’Never even considered it!?’ A flicker of annoyance ignited in Evan Fairchild’s heart.
When Evan Fairchild didn’t say anything, Melody Monroe voiced the question that was on her mind.
"When did you find out about Ian?"
"After you dropped off the clothes."
’Just as I thought. Even earlier than I imagined!’
"Thank you for not forcibly taking Ian away from me, for letting me continue to be his mother," Melody Monroe said with sincere gratitude.
"You will always be his mother! Do you want some other woman to be his mother instead?"
"I... I don’t," Melody Monroe said, quickly shaking her head.
"Good. Neither do I."
Huh? Melody Monroe was confused. ’What does he mean by that?’
"Is there anything else?"
"One more thing! I’d like to go back to Jansburg tomorrow," Melody Monroe said meekly.
"Get out," Evan Fairchild said in a cold voice.
Melody Monroe shot to her feet. "Then I won’t bother you anymore."
Hearing the door close, Evan Fairchild took a deep, furious breath. He spun around, walked to the computer, and deleted the termination agreement he had just personally reviewed!
...
Melody Monroe left the study, went to her room, grabbed her bag, and headed out.
"Miss Monroe, are you heading out?" Auntie Lana asked quickly.
"Yes, I’m going back to my old place to pack some things. I also need to grab some of Ian’s belongings and bring them over."
"It’s hard to hail a cab around here. Aren’t you going to drive?"
"I don’t know how to drive."
"Then why don’t you have Mr. Fairchild take you?"
"No! That’s not necessary!" ’As if I’d dare ask Evan Fairchild to drive me.’ "It’s fine. I’ll just walk a bit farther, I’m sure I can hail a cab from there."
"What if I have Page come back and get you?"
"Really, it’s fine." Troubling others was the last thing Melody Monroe wanted to do, so she quickened her pace and walked out.
Evan Fairchild stood at the window watching her figure retreat, his brow furrowing deeper and deeper. He pulled out his phone and dialed Tommy’s number.
"President Fairchild!"
"Come pick someone up."
"Oh! Right, on my way!"
Melody Monroe was about to cry from exhaustion. ’Why is this place so huge?!’
