She quickly grabbed the handrail to pull herself out of the water, ready to leave.

"Miss Monroe."

A magnetic voice suddenly sounded from behind her.

Melody Monroe’s heart seized! Her foot slipped, and she tumbled back into the water! Her knee slammed right into the pool ladder, cutting it open!

"It hurts so much!" Melody Monroe was in too much pain to climb out of the water.

’Am I cursed to have bad luck every time I run into Evan Fairchild?’

Evan Fairchild strode forward and pulled Melody Monroe from the water. His gaze fell upon her injured knee.

"President Fairchild, what a coincidence." Melody Monroe immediately stood up and tugged at her swimsuit. ’Good, it still covers the birthmark.’

"How’s your leg?" Evan Fairchild asked.

"It’s fine, just a scratch. I’ll go take care of it now." Melody Monroe just wanted to flee! Fighting through the sharp pain, she started limping away.

Evan Fairchild moved to catch up to her.

Melody Monroe felt a firm grip clamp down on her wrist.

"President Fairchild!"

Without another word, Evan Fairchild swept her up into his arms and strode forward.

Melody Monroe’s breath caught. "President Fairchild! I can walk on my own. It’s just a little scratch, you really don’t... you don’t have to do this."

"Shut up!"

A pained expression crossed Melody Monroe’s face. Under his icy stare, forget resisting—she couldn’t help but breathe a little lighter.

Evan Fairchild carried Melody Monroe into the elevator.

"I’m on the seventeenth floor," Melody Monroe said quietly.

Carrying her, Evan Fairchild effortlessly pressed the button for the thirty-sixth floor.

Melody Monroe was at a loss for words.

"President Fairchild, I..."

"Don’t talk."

"Please, President Fairchild, take me back to my room!" Melody Monroe felt she had to speak up now before it was too late.

Evan Fairchild remained silent, completely ignoring her request.

Melody Monroe immediately began to struggle, trying to break free from his arms.

Evan Fairchild suddenly tightened his grip. "I’m taking you to treat that cut."

"There’s no need to trouble yourself, President Fairchild. It’s just a small cut; I can handle it myself. Thank you, President Fairchild, but really, I’ll be fine on my own."

The elevator doors opened, and Evan Fairchild carried her straight to the presidential suite nearby.

BEEP! The door opened.

Melody Monroe’s heart leaped into her throat. ’What on earth did Evan Fairchild bring me here for?’

’Is it going to be like last time?’

’I only escaped by a fluke last time. Will I be able to get away again?’

’If Evan Fairchild finds out... even if he doesn’t kill me, what will he do to Ian?’

Melody Monroe’s mind was a complete mess; she couldn’t think straight at all.

Evan Fairchild set her down on the sofa, then turned to get a bathrobe and draped it over her.

Melody Monroe hastily tied the bathrobe’s sash—in a dead knot!

Evan Fairchild’s gaze darkened as he watched her.

Melody Monroe sat there, completely rigid, not daring to move or speak. Evan Fairchild knelt in front of her, examining the cut on her knee.

She was like a lamb cornered by a wolf, capable of nothing but instinctual fear.

Evan Fairchild pulled out his phone and called Tommy.

"President Fairchild!"

"Go to a pharmacy and buy some antiseptic spray and bandages. Bring them here immediately."

"Yes, President Fairchild!"

The cut on Melody Monroe’s knee wasn’t deep—it had only broken the skin and just needed a simple cleaning. But against her milky-white skin, the injury looked startlingly conspicuous.

"Last time, in the elevator... thank you for the warning," Evan Fairchild said suddenly.

"Oh, don’t mention it. I didn’t really do anything to help," Melody Monroe replied hastily.

"You still have my thanks."
