Chapter 93: Monroe Isn’t Afraid

「The next day.」

An alarm clock woke Melody Monroe.

The moment she saw the time, she shot up in bed.

Her shoot for the day wasn’t scheduled to start that early, but she had set her alarm for seven o’clock anyway. Work had kept her so busy that she hadn’t been able to call Ian for three days!

Today was the weekend, so Ian didn’t have school. He should be up by now.

She decided against calling Ian’s phone watch, opting to video call the nanny directly instead. She missed him so much; she couldn’t wait to see his face.

After getting up and having a little breakfast, Ian Monroe started working on his building blocks.

The nanny’s heart ached for him when she saw the entire table covered in building blocks.

"Miss Monroe can be so unreasonable, buying such a complicated set of blocks. Ian, why don’t you take a break? You’ve been working on this for a whole week."

"Mom bought these blocks for me. That’s between her and me," Ian Monroe said, glancing up at the nanny.

The nanny’s expression stiffened. "I’m just worried about you."

"I don’t think it’s hard work."

Suddenly, the nanny’s phone rang. Ian Monroe glanced down at the phone watch on the table, and the light in his big, bright eyes dimmed.

"Miss Monroe."

"Hi, is Ian up yet?"

The moment Ian heard his mother’s voice, a spark returned to his eyes.

"He’s up, he’s up! He’s working on his building blocks." The nanny quickly handed the phone to Ian Monroe.

Ian Monroe took the phone, his little face filled with excitement the moment he saw his mother. But with just one glance, he could tell she’d gotten much thinner!

"Mom, are you working too hard?"

"Not at all. I’ve just been busy. I’ve been working very late the past few days and was afraid you’d be asleep, so I didn’t call."

"Mom, you’ve lost weight," Ian Monroe said, looking at his mother with concern.

"That’s right, I’m on a diet. I’m trying to lose weight so I look better on camera," Melody Monroe said reassuringly. ’This little guy is just too sweet. I just want to kiss him, hug him, and lift him up high.’

’Ian thought his mom was the most beautiful no matter what!’

"So how have you been lately, Ian? Is there anything new you want to share with Mom?"

Ian thought about it seriously. It didn’t seem like there was anything to tell his mom, but he wanted to talk with her for a little longer.

"We got new teachers at preschool."

"Oh, your class got new teachers?" Melody Monroe was surprised Ian would talk to her about things like this. ’This is a good sign!’

"Mhm," Ian Monroe nodded. "Both of them were replaced."

"So how are you getting along with the new teachers?"

"The same."

Melody Monroe understood. It was the same as with his previous teachers. It seemed Ian wasn’t having any trouble adjusting to the new ones.

"An old lady moved in across from us."

"Oh? Someone moved into the apartment across from us?" Melody Monroe was a little surprised, but she figured it was only natural.

"She’s very nice."

"So you’ve met the new neighbor?" Melody Monroe was thrilled. It was incredibly beneficial for Ian’s development that he could have normal social interactions.

"She chased away a big dog and protected Ian."

Melody Monroe’s heart leaped into her throat when she heard that!

The nanny quickly took the phone to explain. "Miss Monroe, this is what happened. The other day after school, we ran into a big black dog in the residential complex—it wasn’t on a leash. It suddenly charged at us. Our neighbor from next door was the one who snatched Ian up, so he wasn’t pounced on by the dog."

Melody Monroe’s heart pounded with terror as she listened!

"Ian, you weren’t scared, were you? You didn’t get hurt, did you?"

"No. Mom, the big dog is gone now. Ian isn’t scared."
