Chapter 202: Reliving an Old Dream 3
Outside, there was a hanging chair. Ian Monroe was immediately drawn to it, climbing onto the chair and happily rocking back and forth.
In the sunroom, only the two of them remained.
Evan Fairchild suddenly stood up and moved his seat next to Melody Monroe.
The sudden proximity made Melody Monroe’s heart pound wildly.
"How’s the drink?" he asked suddenly.
"It’s good."
The corners of Evan Fairchild’s lips quirked up. "Besides being good, does it make you remember anything?"
Melody Monroe slowly raised her head, looking at Evan Fairchild blankly. "Remember what?"
Evan Fairchild picked up his glass and poured some of his drink into Melody Monroe’s.
Melody Monroe stared at him, stunned.
Evan Fairchild picked up her glass and placed it in her hand.
"Then have some more. Maybe you’ll remember."
Melody Monroe took the glass and clinked it against Evan Fairchild’s. She had only taken a sip when she immediately frowned.
The delicious drink from before had changed flavor after what he’d added.
It was a bit bitter, with the astringency of tea and the burn of liquor, though the sharp kick didn’t come until the very end.
All she knew was that the flavor had changed. She had no idea just how potent the kick of a Long Island Iced Tea truly was.
Evan Fairchild put down his glass and slowly ate some food.
Seeing him finish, Melody Monroe picked up her glass again.
"Are you trying to get me drunk?" Evan Fairchild asked in a low voice.
"Is Mr. Fairchild so easily drunk?"
"That depends on who I’m drinking with." Evan Fairchild raised his glass, a faint smile in his eyes. He suddenly leaned toward Melody Monroe, whispering by her ear, "When I’m drinking with you, I’m utterly defenseless. I’m already drunk."
Melody Monroe felt her cheeks burn. His breath carried the mellow scent of liquor, completely enveloping her. She felt even dizzier, as if she were running out of oxygen.
She lifted her head, her gaze a little hazy as she looked at Evan Fairchild.
At the same time, Evan Fairchild was also looking at her.
’The woman in his memories began to blur, forever a fleeting dream.’
’But the woman before him grew ever clearer, etching her mark upon his mind.’
He picked up his glass from the table and gently clinked it against the one in Melody Monroe’s hand. Then, he downed all of its contents in one go.
Melody Monroe looked at her glass, drank the rest of it as well, and immediately scrunched up her brow.
"Eat something to help with the taste of the alcohol." Evan Fairchild slid a nearby plate closer to Melody Monroe.
Melody Monroe quickly took a few bites.
"Melody Monroe..." His voice was a bit hoarse as he murmured her name.
Feeling him draw near, Melody Monroe didn’t dare move a muscle.
He rested his head on her shoulder and took her hand in his.
"Tonight, Ian Monroe has to sleep in his own bed."
Melody Monroe looked up toward the outside, where Ian Monroe was still playing happily.
As if sensing his mother’s gaze, Ian Monroe immediately turned his head. "Mommy."
The moment she saw Ian Monroe run in from outside, Melody Monroe quickly gave Evan Fairchild a push.
Evan Fairchild didn’t budge, holding his position.
"What’s wrong with Mr. Fairchild?" Ian Monroe walked over to Evan Fairchild.
"Mr. Fairchild... he might be drunk!" Melody Monroe explained hurriedly.
"Then what should we do?" Ian Monroe tilted his head, looking like he was trying to think of a solution. "Should we help Mr. Fairchild to bed?"
Facing her son’s dark, innocent eyes, Melody Monroe felt a surge of panic.
"Mommy, I’ll help you!"
Melody Monroe had no choice but to help Evan Fairchild up.
