Chapter 201: Reliving an Old Dream 2
’As expected from a Michelin chef. It’s so good I could cry!’
"Mom, this one is delicious too!" Ian Monroe said, giving his mother another piece.
Melody Monroe took a bite and nodded enthusiastically!
Since there was only one of each pastry, and the portions were tiny, Ian Monroe would always taste a piece first before giving it to his mother.
Melody Monroe couldn’t bear to finish it all herself, so she shared it with Ian Monroe, spooning out portions for them both.
They took turns feeding each other bites, creating a scene sweeter than any of the pastries on the table.
Evan Fairchild felt like he was the third wheel.
A very obvious one, at that.
However, the awkward atmosphere didn’t last long, as a waiter soon began to serve the main dishes.
The dinner leaned more toward Western-style cuisine.
Melody Monroe gazed at the table laden with delicacies, knowing she would probably have to live at the gym for the next week to work it all off.
"Mr. Fairchild, would you care for some drinks?" a waiter inquired softly.
"Yes."
The waiter immediately turned to retrieve a set of bartending tools. At a nearby counter, he opened several bottles and began mixing the drinks.
"This is a Kiss Cocktail, Miss Monroe. Please, enjoy."
Melody Monroe gazed at the amber-colored cocktail before her, captivated by its fantastical hue.
Kiss Cocktail. A sweet kiss.
’What a suggestive name.’
"Mr. Fairchild, yours is a Long Island Iced Tea. Enjoy."
In the glass before Evan Fairchild was a drink the color of black tea.
A Long Island Iced Tea.
The Kiss Cocktail was light and sweet, tasting like fruit wine mixed with a soft drink. Its relatively low alcohol content made it suitable for women.
The Long Island Iced Tea, however, looked as clear and mild as black tea but carried the rich, potent aroma of liquor. It had a high alcohol content, yet it went down smoothly, with a flavor that was a little sweet, a touch sour, and carried a faint trace of bitterness.
Evan Fairchild picked up his glass, staring at the liquid within.
’This was the very drink that had been his downfall last time.’
’To him, a Long Island Iced Tea tasted deceptively mild, but it could numb the senses before you knew it. You wouldn’t even realize you were drunk.’
’And yet tonight, he found himself wanting to experience that flavor all over again.’
He raised his glass, gesturing with it in Melody Monroe’s direction.
Melody Monroe quickly raised her own glass, lightly clinking it against Evan Fairchild’s.
The two drinks, one dark and one light, one potent and one mild, seemed as perfectly matched as the couple’s own dispositions.
Melody Monroe took a sip. It was exceptionally good; it hardly tasted like alcohol at all.
’She had never had much opportunity to drink before, nor did she particularly like it. The original owner of this body probably couldn’t hold her liquor either, since she would have an allergic reaction to excessive amounts of alcohol.’
’As for Evan Fairchild’s tolerance, however, she had no idea.’
Evan Fairchild took a drink and set his glass down.
The table fell quiet, so much so that they could even hear the sound of the wind outside.
The lighting in the room was dim, making the candlelight on the table seem all the brighter as it cast its glow on the three of them.
Melody Monroe surreptitiously lifted her head to steal a glance at Evan Fairchild.
’The short time she spent with Evan Fairchild today would surely be etched deeply into her memory.’
When Evan Fairchild raised his glass again, Melody Monroe hastily followed suit.
They clinked their glasses once more.
Evan Fairchild watched Melody Monroe. A tipsy blush was already creeping up her cheeks, looking utterly captivating.
’Revisiting this old dream seemed to have a unique flavor all its own.’
Melody Monroe took a few more sips and started to feel a bit light-headed.
’I can’t be getting drunk after just a few sips, can I?’
"Mom, I’m full," Ian Monroe said, putting down his utensils and wiping his hands.
"Go play outside."
"Okay." Ian Monroe was getting restless anyway. He stood up and headed outside.
