Chapter 109: Straight Man
’Looks like it was just raining hard, so he gave her a ride on the way.’
’Wait, that’s not right. Why is Miss Monroe getting out here?’
’Miss Monroe doesn’t live here?!’
"To this hotel," Evan Fairchild’s voice sounded from the back seat.
Tommy immediately stepped on the gas, quickly pulling up to the hotel entrance.
Evan Fairchild got out of the car and strode into the hotel.
Melody Monroe was standing by the elevators, waiting. A wave of chills made her feel awful, and a dull, dragging pain started in her abdomen. The familiar sensation made her clench her jaw. ’Don’t tell me I’m this unlucky.’
Suddenly, her wrist was seized in a tight grip.
Melody Monroe looked up into a pair of cool eyes and gasped.
’Evan Fairchild! What is he doing here?!’
"What’s wrong?" Evan Fairchild asked, looking at Melody Monroe’s pale face. A flicker of concern flashed deep in his eyes. "Are you not feeling well?"
"I’m fine, President Fairchild. You... what are you doing here?" Melody Monroe asked, forcing herself to endure the discomfort.
"I came to find you." Evan Fairchild reached out and touched Melody Monroe’s forehead. ’She’s burning up!’
Melody Monroe felt her body go light as Evan Fairchild swept her up into his arms!
Panic flared in her heart. "President Fairchild!"
"You have a fever. I’m taking you to the hospital."
"I’m fine, really! Please put me down."
Holding her, Evan Fairchild strode toward the exit.
Tommy was waiting outside. The moment he saw Evan Fairchild approaching with Melody Monroe in his arms, he immediately pulled open the car door.
Evan Fairchild placed Melody Monroe in the car and sat right beside her.
"President Fairchild, I’m really okay. I’ll be fine after a little rest! I really don’t need to go to the hospital." Melody Monroe turned to open the door, but it was already locked.
"You really don’t need to go to the hospital?"
"Really! I’m really fine," Melody Monroe said repeatedly.
Just when she thought Evan Fairchild would let her out of the car, she suddenly heard his voice.
"Back to my hotel first."
Melody Monroe: ...
Tommy hit the gas, and the car sped off into the rain.
Melody Monroe panicked. "President Fairchild, I’m staying at this hotel now, not my old place."
"Then we’ll go to my place first."
"You really don’t have to trouble yourself, President Fairchild. I just want to go back and rest for a bit." ’Communicating with Evan Fairchild is impossible,’ Melody Monroe thought.
"It’s no trouble," Evan Fairchild answered concisely.
Melody Monroe was about to speak when another sharp pain shot through her abdomen. She immediately clutched her stomach, her face contorted in pain.
"Tommy, to the hospital."
Melody Monroe grabbed his arm to stop him. "President Fairchild, I really don’t need to go to the hospital! It’s just... a woman’s problem."
Evan Fairchild looked at her, his brow still tightly furrowed.
"This doesn’t feel like you’re repaying a kindness, President Fairchild. It feels more like you’re out for revenge. I just want to go home, take a hot shower, and get some sleep, but you’ve dragged me away like this..." Melody Monroe muttered under her breath.
’Dragged away...’
Evan Fairchild: ...
"Since I’ve already ’dragged you away,’ you might as well come to my place to rest properly. After dinner, I’ll take you back."
Melody Monroe knew it was useless to object.
This wasn’t the first time she had witnessed Evan Fairchild’s overbearing nature.
"Okay," she nodded lightly.
’She actually agreed!’ Evan Fairchild’s brow finally relaxed.
Melody Monroe curled into a ball, trying her best not to touch Evan Fairchild.
Her deliberate distance made his brow furrow tightly once again.
Back in Evan Fairchild’s room, Melody Monroe felt absolutely miserable. Sure enough, her monthly visitor had arrived, but she was completely unprepared.
Being practically abducted by Evan Fairchild and brought here... she felt like she’d been royally screwed.
The Evan Fairchild who had lived in her fantasies, the man she once thought was flawlessly perfect, was actually just a clueless guy!
