The moment Ian Monroe heard that, he immediately looked over at his mother. Seeing her state, his heart ached for her.

’The last time Mom was in the hospital, it was because of allergies, too.’

He quickly grabbed Caleb White’s sleeve. "Doctor, please, you have to save my mom!"

’Doctor-brother?’

Evan Fairchild was speechless.

Caleb White, Jasper Rockwell, and he were all born in the same year!

"Don’t worry, little guy. Your mom will be fine after a quick shot," Caleb White said as he stepped forward and gave Melody Monroe the injection.

Ian Monroe rushed to his mother’s bedside and held her hand tightly.

The moment Evan Fairchild drew near, Ian Monroe’s head snapped up, his gaze fierce. "Mr. Fairchild, stay away from my mother!"

Evan Fairchild was at a loss for words.

Caleb White glanced from the father to the son, and back again.

’What in the world is this kid’s relationship to Evan Fairchild?’

"Ian Monroe, your mother needs someone to look after her right now!" Evan Fairchild said, his patience wearing thin.

"I know! I can take care of her."

"You’re just a child. It’s late, so stop making a fuss!"

"I’m not making a fuss! Mr. Fairchild, you’re the one who gave my mother alcohol! You’re the reason she’s so sick!"

Faced with Ian Monroe’s accusation, Evan Fairchild had no rebuttal.

"Water... water..." The woman on the bed suddenly mumbled in her sleep.

"Mom needs some water!" Ian Monroe announced at once.

Forgetting all about scolding his son, Evan Fairchild hurried to pour a glass of water. But just as he was about to help Melody Monroe sit up, Ian Monroe snatched the glass from his hand.

Some of the water sloshed out. "Ian Monroe, you...!"

Ian Monroe leaned close to his mother’s side. "Mom, drink some water," he said softly.

Melody Monroe groggily opened her eyes and tried to sit up. Evan Fairchild started to reach out to help, but Ian Monroe immediately shot him a disdainful glare.

Evan Fairchild’s hand froze in midair. Ian Monroe quickly set the glass on the nearby nightstand and, with great effort, helped his mother sit up.

"Mom, drink some water."

Melody Monroe took the glass and had a sip. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and she lay back down.

Ian Monroe tucked his mother in, then turned and ran to the bathroom. He returned with a towel he had dampened with warm water.

As the adults in the room watched, Ian Monroe placed the towel on his mother’s forehead.

Caleb White glanced at Evan Fairchild again, raising a hand to hide the smile playing on his lips.

’So even Evan Fairchild has days where he gets put in his place.’

’And by a kid who looks to be only three or four years old, no less!’

The medication began to take effect, and Melody Monroe fell asleep again, no longer looking as uncomfortable as before.

"Here’s some medication. I brought it with me after hearing about her condition. Make sure Miss Monroe finishes all of it after she wakes up tomorrow."

"Is there any way to improve her susceptibility to allergies?" Evan Fairchild asked Caleb White.

"There are some things we can do. Bring Miss Monroe to see me one of these days, and I’ll give her a comprehensive examination first."

"Okay," Evan Fairchild nodded.

"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now."

"Thank you, Doctor. Goodbye, Doctor," Ian Monroe piped up.

Caleb White had never been particularly fond of children—in fact, he was indifferent to many things in the world. And yet, after just this one meeting, he couldn’t help but like Ian Monroe.

’A kid who dares to put Evan Fairchild in his place! How could anyone not like him?’

"Your name is Ian Monroe?" Caleb White asked.

"Yes," Ian Monroe nodded.
