Chapter 276: Withdrawing 80 Million
She was working so desperately for two reasons. The first was Christopher Sterling; she wanted to generate the highest possible profit for him.
It was all she could do for him.
The second reason was Melody Monroe. She hoped Melody would become a huge star with this series.
After finishing the latest batch of documents, she pinched the bridge of her nose. She picked up the phone beside her and dialed an internal extension.
"Rachel, bring me another cup of coffee."
"Rose, you’ve already had four cups this morning! It’s almost noon, why don’t you take a break?"
"It’s fine. I still have some documents to review. This will be my last cup."
Rose Shaw stood up but was suddenly hit by a wave of dizziness, forcing her to sit back down again. She quickly opened a drawer and took out a small box of candy.
She unwrapped a piece and popped it into her mouth.
The feeling of weakness gradually subsided.
Only then did she get up and go to the restroom.
When she came back out, someone else was in her chair.
Lana Sheffield was sitting in Rose Shaw’s seat, picking up the documents Rose had just organized. A sneer played on her lips. "You’re certainly dedicated. What exactly did Melody Monroe promise you?"
"This is my job," Rose Shaw replied calmly.
"Christopher and I are married now. It’s impossible for him to have any kind of improper relationship with Melody Monroe. I trust Christopher not to cheat on me! So no matter what tricks Melody pulls, it’s useless!"
"Since you’re President Sterling’s wife, you should trust him. How can a husband and wife not even have the most basic trust in each other?"
"Of course I trust my husband. But I don’t trust that bitch, Melody Monroe!"
"Please, show some respect when you speak!"
"Rose Shaw, you’re a smart woman. Why are you being so dense? Think about it. It wasn’t easy for you to climb to your current position. Wouldn’t it be a shame if I had you fired, all because of Melody Monroe?"
"You don’t have the authority to fire me. President Sterling said he wouldn’t let you interfere with company business."
"You really believe that? I’m his wife!" Lana Sheffield laughed so hard her shoulders shook. "I came here today to tell you something. The Sheffield Family’s finances have run into a bit of a problem, so I can’t invest as much as I planned. I’m short about eighty million or so. I’m planning to pull that eighty-plus million from your project."
"You have no right to touch the money for my project!"
"No right?" Lana Sheffield smirked. "The finance department has already been notified. The money is already in my account!"
Lana Sheffield opened her purse. "And let me show you something else."
Rose Shaw saw several official seals inside Lana’s purse.
They were the corporate seals for Stellaris Corporation, and even President Sterling’s personal seal.
With those, what couldn’t Lana Sheffield do?!
A wave of indignation washed over Rose Shaw.
But she didn’t know what right she had to feel that way.
After all, they were the married couple.
"Rose Shaw, you can either give up, or you can go raise that eighty-plus million yourself!" Lana Sheffield took a few steps closer to Rose. "And if you really can’t raise it, tell Melody Monroe to go sell herself."
"Oh, right. Those investors you were talking to? They realized Melody Monroe has no value, so they’ve all switched to funding my movie instead."
Rose Shaw’s heart went cold.
’A TV series relies on advertising revenue; it’s not like a movie. To suddenly lose so much funding, on top of the collaborating investors pulling out... this is a dead end!’
Seeing the expression on Rose Shaw’s face, Lana Sheffield felt even more triumphant.
