Chapter 312: About to Know the Truth?
"I only met him today, so I don’t know him well. They must have known each other for a long time, right? Or maybe they were childhood playmates."
Keith Coleman thought that was possible too.
"Take me back to my hotel," Melody Monroe said to Keith Coleman.
Melody Monroe didn’t dare go see Evan Fairchild again.
If she went to his place, there was no telling if she’d be allowed to leave.
Back at the hotel, Melody sent Evan Fairchild a text message.
Evan Fairchild stared at the message, his brow furrowed. ’She’s not coming back? And she even managed to secure the show!’
As soon as Keith Coleman got back, he immediately had his people contact Felix Hughes.
But no matter what his people said, they couldn’t sway Felix Hughes. He was dead set on having Melody on the show.
The man was impervious to persuasion or pressure.
...
Melody watched TV while waiting for Rose Shaw.
Suddenly, the door opened and Rose Shaw walked in.
"Rose, you’re back so soon?" Melody asked, a little surprised.
"Yeah, we just grabbed a bite to eat."
"I thought you’d be back much later."
"What are you thinking? We were just childhood friends. We grew up in the same city and went to school together, that’s all."
"But the way he looks at you... it’s full of adoration."
"He was always tall for his age when we were kids. We loved to tease him and give him all the heavy lifting. He was so honest, always looking after the younger kids like a big brother."
"He and I were the closest. We walked to school together, walked home together, and played together every day. After we finished our homework, he’d always be scheming to copy mine. And whenever he wanted to, I’d take the chance to boss him around."
A smile filled Rose Shaw’s eyes as she spoke.
She seemed to long for those days.
’If only what happened later... hadn’t happened.’
Even if she was poor, without a nice house, nice clothes, or a comfortable life. She could have been like most ordinary people: go to college, find a job, get married, have kids, and live a simple, quiet life.
"Rose, you know, you could give it a try. Since you grew up together, you must know him well. And he seems like a really dependable guy."
"He’s a good man. But I don’t want to ruin his life. I can’t have children anymore." After saying this, Rose Shaw took a cigarette out of her purse.
Melody immediately snatched the cigarette away. "Forget it. Let’s talk about something else. Rose, was there something you wanted to tell me today?"
Rose Shaw suddenly turned her head and looked at Melody with a serious expression.
"Melody, do you remember your childhood? Anything from before you were five? Do you have any memory of it at all?" she asked abruptly.
Melody’s heart clenched.
’Is Rose trying to find out if I’m really her biological sister?’
’If Rose finds out I’m not her sister, will our relationship stay the same?’
Melody didn’t want to lie to Rose Shaw.
"Of course I remember."
Rose Shaw’s expression immediately grew tense. "What do you remember?"
"I grew up in an orphanage. I had a few playmates, but they all got adopted. I wasn’t adopted for the longest time because I had poor health. I had allergies all the time, and my face was always covered in red blotches. I was so, so ugly."
Rose Shaw was stunned. "Are you sure those are your memories from before you were five?"
